View Full Version : VF34/VF22 and tranny combo's?

Hey guys, I am trying to figure out what the better turbo is for my gear ratio. I have the Sti-RA gearset and MY thoughts and knowledge tell me that of the 2 turbos, the VF34 is a better mate to the short gears. I do understand the VF22 out-flows it, but would that be pointless with such short gears? My build ideas revolve around street bruiser/ EVERY DAY daily driver with random/seldom drag and track days thrown in. Any ideas on my thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:disco::D

I have a vf23 turbo with a jdm sti 6 speed. it takes off quick on a vf22 with a stock 5 speed. but in the top end the vf22 stomped on me quick!

the vf22 is a great turbo. Just because ur gears are shorter doesnt mean to much unless u have a massive turbo that needs a lot of load to hit full boost. The vf series turbos just arent big enough to make a difference especially the small difference between the 34 and the 22. My opinion is to get the 22 hands down, that turbo on the 2.0l is my favorite setup i have had yet, even tho it makes far less power than what i have now

Wow, great feedback everyone. I really appreciate it. I 'spose the VF22 would end up being more fun to drive anyway. Well, I will keep the eyes open for a 22 then.

WELL ACTUALLY I DO KNOE ALOT ABOUT my car so what makes u think that gormonk and i actually dont care to get corrected its about personl preference for that turbo i am just saying 34 is a better dd becaus ehad quicker spool then the 22 cause it a late boost turbo

gormonk
06-22-2008, 08:27 PM
well since i know who you are but you obviously dont know who i am ill tell you why i think what i do. how about the fact that you dont know what turbo you have on your car? or did rich finally tell you cause he felt sorry for you? or maybe the fact that every time i've talked to you all i end up doing is rolling my eyes at you for all the bull**** you try to feed me? you've gone through how many transmissions in your car?.... well last time i drove it it sure didnt feel very fast. i think your transmission problem is located between your seat and steering wheel instead of between your motor and your tires.

gormonk
06-23-2008, 11:34 AM
yes i have driven your car, and last time i talked to you you didnt know what turbo you had on your car. and what does you having a jdm 6-speed now have to do with all the other transmissions you already blew up?
i have a feeling that you will still blow up the 6-speed as well. it will probably just take a little longer.

well im done hijacking this thread....... to the OP there is not a huge difference between the vf34 and the vf22...... meaning you could go with either one. but why not go ahead and get the one that will build a little more power?

ummm.... yes i have driven you car you dumbass...... otherwise i wouldnt say i had.
and im sure your car has lots of "powa" as you so eloquently put it. i mean what was i thinking by comparing it to a stage 2 wrx..... you say that you dont go to westside meets?
thanks god for that..... i hate to see you cry when we all start bagging on you cause you're a douche. not that we dont bag on each other anyway. i'm just pretty sure that you would get singled out pretty quick. considering you usual ass hattery of revving up your motor on your cold car or doing 35 in 1st gear up to the dealership since you think we want to hear your ****ty exhaust.
get a clue dude we own subarus, we know what they sound like modded, we all think yours is a piece of crap, poor christian has to look at what you did to his car when he did so much work making sure it looked nice before you got it.
and about wrxs having glass transmissions. i know of plenty of people who are putting down more power than you who also track their cars and have not once blown a transmission.
like i said.... your problem exists between your seat and your steering wheel..... but since you are too dense to understand what that means ill break it down barney style for you.
what goes between your seat and your steering wheel?........ you do. that means that you are the problem with your car.... not all that powa you are putting down.

Blusube03 some advice for you.

Between this button "," and this button "/" is a button that looks like this "." That button is called a "period". Pronounced just like that ***** that women get every few weeks. In the English language, when writing, it is used to seperate sentences. A sentence usually contains one complete thought. When you want to move on to a new thought, you use the "period". It makes your writing much more readable and A LOT easier to understand.

^ not always true.

Yes the 02 and early 03 trans are glass. The others are noicably better. Yet still breakable. Unless you drive like a old granny. I drive to plan hard and I built my car arround my driving style. It works out pretty good for the most part. Yet it's more expensive.

racingfish
06-24-2008, 02:05 PM
"drive it like your suppose to" can be interpeted many ways... your SUPPOSE to follow all driving laws at all time. its funny because people say the wrx/sti is a rally car. so when they take their car off roading and something breaks, it should be covered by warranty because "its a rally car." hate to brake it to you people that think this way.. ITS NOT. its herritage might be and way further down the bloodline it may be... but the vehicle that you buy at your local Subaru dealership, is not a rally car. it is not ment to be going over 10ft jumps at 80mph. I had an 03 and didnt have one problem with the transmission. then again i didnt do to many 5k clutch drops off the line.
I agree with c-grunt... if you drive it like "your suppose to (not like a fast and the furious extra)", you wont be breaking it. Teach has an 02 wrx with mods and he hasnt had any problems with his tranny either... and like jj said, it all has to do with the driver and knowing what your car can/cannot do.

I know multiple people with the '02-'03 5MT, all kinds of modifications from a TBE and a mild tune to FP turbos and 100 octane tunes, and hundreds of autox launches on their 50K+ mileage cars. I myself never had a single issue with the 5MT on my protuned WRX, and it had at LEAST 3 dozen autocrosses on it, and I traded it in with 68K on the odo.

So, to summarize: your whiney bitches with pathetic excuses to rationalize the fact that you never learned how to properly street race yore mad tyte subbie, yo.
