16lbs.
$269.00 each
Available 3-20-02

And the "OZ" logo on the spoke does not come off

Yummy... always liked those wheels, never thought we'd be able to get them... Will you offer all the current colors they have for them?

I'm seeing more exotic OZ wheels being offered... so when will we see the OZ SuperTursimo Evolutions??? :D

I'll be calling you around noon... (in regards to your e-mail).

mmmmmmmm, me like. Some other colors would be sweet though. Mayhaps the grey of the Superleggeras (sp?).

Also, since you only listed 17 x 7, I'd assume that no other sizes will be available - can you just confirm that.

Yet another 17" wheel.

jblaine

Good price and good looks. It's too bad they're not +53.

Dolphin Overton

Those are beautiful!!! If they were 7.5" wide I would get them, no questions asked.

Conduit
03-06-2002, 04:34 PM
53 would be an improper offset with a 7" width.

cwhalgren

53 would be an improper offset with a 7" width.

 How so? I thought that was the offset Subaru uses on all the 7" wide rims on the Impreza?

Aren't those the same style wheels they have stock for the Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally Edition right? Pretty lite wheels.

48 offset should be fine. If you think that's odd go to www.prodrive-japan.com and look at the GC-07 and GC-06 where they use an offset of 43 for the Subaru versions of those wheels.

In both cases, it's a 8" wide rim.

jblaine

Actually, you're right, +48 "should be fine". I'm basing my decision off of the following (very pointedly "Subaru" wheels so to speak), in addition to the hope that I'd be able to slide 4-pots under whatever I sink my money into:

Stock WRX 16x6.5 +55
xx-01 RS 16x7 +53
Prodrive P1 17x7 +52
Prodrive P7 17x7 +52
Subaru 17x7 (champagne colored ones) +53
BBS (the WRX addon ones) 17x7 +53

Although I see that the 18x7.5 P1s are +53 ... pretty odd.

But Conduit, "+53 would be an improper offset for a 7 inch wheel"... is an incorrect statement.

And well, if you want to base your $1200 purchase off of 8 inch wide Prodrive Japan model wheels (which I've never seen on a Subaru or heard about on a Subaru), that's cool by me. It's your money, not mine.

Luke@tirerack

Although, offset is an issue that is often talked about here, the facts are a 17x7 wheel with a 48mm offset does work on a Subaru. The OZ Superleggera is exactly that 17x7 ET48. Many I-Clubbers have them and there have not been any problems with fitment of those wheels so, why would these be any different? They do also offer plenty of brake clearance for most upgrades.

Understood, Luke, but we're talking about a new rim here. Didn't you guys just go through an ordeal with a Forester and P7s that definitely "should have" fit fine, but didn't? I haven't suggested that other people not buy them or that they "absolutely will not work". I said I'd be much more interested as a possible buyer if they were more inline with "standard Subaru spec" and especially interested if they were checked to clear the Subaru 4-pots. I'm merely saying you won't see me lining up to be the guinea pig with that offset. It's just a personal opinion/stance.

I think they're gorgeous rims. They're clearly light, and the price is nice.

EDIT: Also, on OZ's site, the Crono Evolution 2002 Subaru applications they list are for Foresters and Legacys. Why would a company trying to sell products only list those two and not the Impreza line as well (if it worked "properly" with the Imprezas)?

Thanks for the effort dude.

However, the photochop doesn't show off the nice curves in the spokes. These are pretty beefy looking wheels!

Luke,

the OZ website shows 16.9 lbs for the 17x7 inch. Is your figure from an actual sample?

I guess the big OZ logo on the spoke is just a sticker? I'd leave it off if I had the choice.

Does it come in a standard WRX 56.1mm bore size like the Superleggera does? No messing with hub rings is such a nice bonus (No hub rings for the service shop to lose and guaranteed proper fit/centering!)

(it's too bad they went with a "universal bolt pattern look". It would have been cleaner looking with just 5 lug holes, but I guess the extra holes saves a bit of weight)

Otherwise, I like these wheels...a lot!

Check it again jblaine. They list WRX as an application and their blurb is titled:
The CRONO EVOLUTION O.Z Wheel for the 2002, Subaru, WRX.

I went to http://www.ozracing.com/home1.html?lang=en (Products, Wheels, Monobloc, 3rd one in top row = Crono Evolution, Application List, Subaru 2002) and it lists:

FORESTER
LEGACY
LEGACY SEDAN

You must be misunderstanding Luke.

And the "OZ" logo on the spoke does not come off

It's not a sticker. It's probably etched into the spoke.

I'm really not that illiterate, really!

Thanks to OZ and Tirerack for bringing us another choice for our hard to fit Subarus!

Now I can start on counting the fingers on my other hand for choices of reasonably priced lightweight wheels we can choose from ;)

I like these wheels a lot. Will they eventually be available in a 7.5 inch width, with the proper offset, so I can mount some 225-45ZR17 Toyos? (Sorry, Luke - you need to carry Toyo so I can buy the package).;)

there is only one gripe I have about the wheel (other than I don't have a WRX yet): I really don't like it when they have multiple bolt patterns in the same wheel... looks like some cheap universal wheel (and the one in the pic is a four bolt ;)). other than that, I think it's the best wheel I've seen...

Wow... that is the first set of wheels i have seen that I actually think will look good on the wrx.

Anyone want to loan me $1200 ?

Can anyone photoshop those wheels on a white MY00 Legacy GT Wagon? IF they look good, then I might consider putting them over the upcoming StopTech brake kit.

jblaine
03-10-2002, 07:50 AM
nicktckhoo: They are not available in black on OZ Racing's website, so I seriously doubt it. You could have them powdercoated somewhere if you can find a place that will do it.

MrWRX2
03-10-2002, 02:43 PM
Do they make a Gold or Bronze and do you guys have any special package with tires?

cwhalgren
03-11-2002, 12:04 PM
Luke - Please clarify if there are any other possible colors or sizes. I think it has been made fairly clear that this is only available in 17 x 7 ET48 Silver, but by the posting above it would be nice to have a absolute statement from you.

MrWRX2 - There is a good chance that Tire Rack could hook you up with a good wheel/tire package for this! ;)

The Chronos being the best wheel? Hardly, but it's certainly is one of the few wheels that is light, looks great and doesn't cost an arm. It took OZ a long time to make these available in a WRX friendly size, but at least they did!

Luke@tirerack
03-11-2002, 05:20 PM
The Chrono Evolution is only available in what OZ calls "Silver Standard" color and it does come with caps to fill the secondary blot holes. Only available in the 17x7 48mm dimensions. The OZ logo on the spoke is under the clear coat so it is very difficult to remove. If you are able to remove it the wheel will need to be refinished

I hope this clears things up a little

Does anybody know which brake kits will fit under the Crono Evolutions, and which won't? ie Stoptech, Wilwood, Alcon?

If we get a picture of a WRX with actual (not photoshopped) Cronos on it, it shouldn't be too tough to photoshop to black. But photoshopping them onto a black WRX won't necessarily give an indication of if they'd look good or not.

I'm still hoping for a real picture, and answers about brake clearances. :)

This does not seem to be correct, at least for the Foresters. According to the spec Foresters have 6-Spoke Aluminum Alloy Wheels, 16-In. X 6.5-In Width and I also know that the OEM offset is 48.
