My buddy recently got a used 07 impreza outback and he is having an issue with it....

is this normal??? Can anyone with DRLs on their impreza chime in?? If not, what might be the problem??

Here's how mine works before I disabled my DRL (although its an 02, the sequence shouldn't be any different)

Handbrake On + Headlights Off = No Lights
Handbrake On + Headlights On = Headlights On + Parking Light On
Handbrake Off + Headlights Off = DRL Low Beam On
Handbrake Off + Headlights On = Headlights On + Parking Light On

Your friend's first 3 pictures seems right to me. But the fourth one... When my car is stationary and my headlights are on (regardless of handbrake), my low beams will come on along with the rest of the standard lights.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting and first time (hopefully not last) buying a Subaru. We just had a wicked storm in Chicago, near-Tornado, and I drove in this waterwall, terrible driving conditions, and I doubt I would have had as much control if I was in my old car.

Anyway, I'm jawwadh's friend, and the pictures at that website ( http://usamaisawake.obxhost.net/subaru/subaru.htm ) are of my Subaru.

It's actually a 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i (not Outback)

So I guess what I'm wondering is, are the lights that are on in 2nd picture the DRL lights? Because I always thought DRL lights were small. The lights in the 2nd picture seem to be the main headlights to me. And if they are the main headlights, then isn't it wrong that they turn on when I turn the handbrake off (down)? Shouldn't the little lights (what I thought were the DRL lights) be the only things that turn on when I turn the handbrake off?

The DRL's in the US are just the standard bulbs with a resistor in line to reduce output... at least in 2002. The city light (the small one) is used as the DRL in the JDM lights, but is just a marker light in the US.

Yes that's perfectly normal.

Thanks everyone. So now I must ask, why should I bother turning the headlights on at all? Those little lights do nothing, really.
