View Full Version : Why is it called 'clutch shudder'? Detroit wagon 03-10-2002, 04:13 PM I'm familiar with the symptoms, but not the diagnosis. supermarkus 03-10-2002, 04:27 PM Diagnosis: On a cold day, before your tranny is fully warmed up, let the clutch out in a smooth motion in first gear. The car will buck, shudder, and shake like the clutch is slipping and catching repeatedly. Some people experience this all the time. It is a Subaru problem, not a wrx problem. "Why do the call him "The Bullet Dodger"?" "Because he dodges bullets, Avi." North Ursalia 03-10-2002, 04:27 PM It's a phrase one of the old school guys coined... it basically feels like the clutch disk is "skipping" and the whole car rather violent shudders as it does this, hence clutch shudder :). It just " feels like it's skipping". You're saying this is not actually a clutch problem? supermarkus 03-10-2002, 04:54 PM Do a search it's been covered so many times. It is a common problem and yes the clutch actually skips. It's from a slightly warped flywheel, which takes a bit of warming up before it regains its shape. Loki 03-11-2002, 12:54 PM I get around my clutch shudder by slipping the clutch a little. Kinda like a very slow launch. If it starts shuddering, give it a little more gas and let the clutch out a tad faster. This works for me, I rarely get clutch shudder for more than a half-second. Probably not very good for my clutch though :) ~Loki |
