Not Shure if this is the best thread to be posting this in but, I figured I took pics of most of the DI soY I'd put it in here (feel free to move it to a proper thread)

Ok to start I must give credit where credit is due I got most of my info from this thread....
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=570252
but was still a bit confused so I made this to better help anyone else who wants to do the mod. As far as I know it works on most Impreza's (WRX or not, Wagon or Sedan) from 2002-2007. This may be an old modd but its new to me and always wanted to do it :: I finally grew a Pair and did:

This Modd will alow your fog lights to work independently without needing your Headlights on, It also allows the Fog Lights to stay on with with High-Beams. I am doing this on a 2007 WRX Ltd. Wagon.

Okay First you will need an Add-A-Circuit, you can get one at AutoZone for $6.99 this will be used to "tap" into the Fog Lamp Relay and it will allow a constant 12v source of power to the Fog Lamp switch (Not the Fog Lights themselves) So in other words the Fog light switch will work to turn the fog lights on and off at anytime.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0006.jpg

You will be getting to the Relay from under your dash, Remove the coin tray and the 2 screws on both sides with a philipps head screwdriver, there is also a pop clip on the upper left side to be popped out, after that the lower part of the dash will be free and is held in with about 3 clips be gentle and drop it down ( careful not to pinch or pull any wires while doing so)

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0017.jpg

a Closer look at the fuses

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0019.jpg

There is a metal bracket that also need s to be removed in order to get to the relay that looks like this...
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0020.jpg
2 screws on both sides will get that out of your way.

Whooooohh Im getting sweaty crouching under there time to turn on my trusty "LITTLE" fan......
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0021.jpg

The Fog Relay is the third from the bottom just left of the fuses...Sorry I dont have a better pic of it before I took it out but this will be the most frustrating part of the DIY....Removing the relay!!! There are two tabs on both side but they are recessed. I used two flathead baby screwdrivers to hold the tabs and pried it out with a needlenose pliers... here it is
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0023.jpg
Now you wll need to bed a leg of the relay like so...
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0024.jpg
With that leg bent the Add-A Circuit comes into Play....
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0025.jpg
Solder the Circuit to the Relay like so...
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0036.jpg
As far as I know for the 06 and 07's (should fit back in fine on other model years) the relay housing needs to be modified in order to allow the realy to fit back in with its bent leg and added wire..... so out comes the trusty Dremmel

I dremmeled here....
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0035.jpg

Enough to get the realy in. (Be very careful while doing this, there are alot of wires around, and the plastic is fairily soft)
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0034.jpg

A few test fits in between using the Dremmel and Viola...
You are now ready to plug in the Add-A-Circuit. I chose to tap into my rear wiper fuse (seeing that it is a 12v constant) Ideally you would use the Illumination fuse, But I chose the Rear Wiper since it will supply constant power to the Fog switch.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0037.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0039.jpg

Reassamble the dash (making shure not to pinch any wires)

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0041.jpg

Pop the Coin Tray back in and you sir are done...

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/Joeyboy718/102_0042.jpg

Now on to the Good Stuff.....

I started the car and pressed in the Fog Switch....SUCCESS!!!

Fogs on Independently...

Ohhh Yea!!!

The Only downside was that the indicator light on the Fog Light switch no longer lights up when the switch is pressed in (in the ON position) Ehh a small Price to Pay for a Preety Cool Mod...(there must be a way around this, hmmmm)

There are MUCH easier ways to do this, without having to rig together an unreliable fuse block tap, and without messing with the relay. A couple lengths of wire and a few splices is really all it takes, search scoobymods.

(and the indicator light still works with the other mod)

Seems alot more straight forward.

agreed... the OP's way of doing this is NOT optimal.

why put +12 across on the relay itself when you can just put +12 through an override switch and solder it into the orange wire?

silly.

Im shure theres plenty of other ways of doing this mod. I just figured Id post how i did mine. After re-examining my indicator light does work (only when the low beams are on) but then again it shouldnt work on any other setting other than having the low beams on ::hence the wire tap:: (as it did originally before any mods were done)

I just completed the scoobymod method for this. It worked great. I simply used an inline splice connection on the orange wire and a shrink splice on the red/green side. The fogs with the high beams is really intense. I am happy. I also found out that one of my marker lights is out.....crap. Those things are a pain.

i think there is a way around it, turn your headlights on!

scoobymods mod won't illuminate the fog switch either until the headlights are on, just like factory.

Tried this a few weeks ago. Nothing. Can anyone verify foglight relay location on 05 Wagon? Is it still third relay from the bottom? I thought 05-07 were the same so i don't know what i did wrong. Will try again soon.

I would have to say that if your fuse box has cables tapped into the fuse holder like in the pictures above, you shouldn't be giving out electrical advice.

I see a T tap and lots of speghetti.

You want to find the relay? Use your finger and put it on the relay you think it is, turn the fog light switch on and off with the headlights on until you find it. Once you think you've found it, pull out the relay and the fog lights will stop working.

question...so i did the scoobymods way. i've run across a problem. when i press the foglight switch while my lowbeams are on the fogs turn on but the beams switch to high beam. they work fine during high beam and during just driving lights.

I have this problem in my 02 as well, but I haven't done the mod yet so obviously they don't work with high beams. I was hoping that by doing this it would get rid of the whole high beam/low beam issue.

It's a good idea if you want to blind people or go driving in dark areas WITHOUT fog. In most states, you can only have 4 main lamps illuminated while driving on a public road. High beams and fog are a definate no-no.

Ive heard that all you gotta do is pop open your relay and solder a wire across from one prong to another (not exactly sure which ones) and then it will do the same thing and allow your fogs to run independently from your light.

well if you guys followed the instructions as described, then you should NOT have any problems, I did it on 3 subies the exact same way as JoeSUBARU did it, and fogs work all times with low and high beams on... or just the fogs. The only thing is the little fog light indicator goes on and off once in a while... the instructions really indicated that could happen!

I don't know if anyone has had inspection trouble but I took my jeep in once and failed PA safety inspection because it's illegal for fogs to be on while the high beams are here. Just a heads up for any potential modders. (I did it any way, but inserted a switch as well as the fuse so i can flip it back to legal status when the rex goes in :ritz:)

Good thing to keep in mind, Im sure being catless and a lot of other things will help fail inspection also....unless you have a hookup ;)
