has anyone tried to switch your DRL on high beam?/

As for OP, I'm not sure if anyone has tried it, but it would be quite challenging. If you want some sort of DRL that doesn't use your low beams, why not try the fog light mod?

I got to it work with high beam. I even made it to turn off when you turn on your low beam..

please let us know how you did this? you rewired the drl circuit?

Needed for this mod. (THIS MOD ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE HID)



12v Normally close relay
quick splice
18 gauge wire

1. Disconnect the negative from battery
2. Unplug DRL resistor in the engine comapartment
3. Cut 2-3" of wire then tap or connect it to the black wire from the connector that connects to the resistor.
4. Tap or connect the other end the wire to one of the wire from resistor.
5. unplug your passenger side high beam.
6. cut 2-3ft of wire then tap it on the red wire from the high beam connector.
7. connect 12v Normally close relay coil to the red and black wire from your HID ballast.
8. connect one end of the relay to the other wire of the DRL resistor.
9. connect the other wire of the relay to the red wire from the high beam connector.
10. connect the battery.
11. test DRL.... done..

it will work even if you don't have hid just so long as your have a positive switched lowbeam harness.

so basically you're putting the black wire from the resistor on the 85 terminal and the 30 going into the high beam, right?

basically the red wire from your high beam is negative. so you need to connect it to the relay then from relay to the resistor and from resistor to the black wire from the connector that you disconnected from the resistor.

i will take a picture tomorrow... get a multi-meter and test your relay. i added 4 1ohm resistor to make it dimmer.

ok! so...

85 as the 12V (red wire from ballast)
86 is grounded (black wire from ballast)
30 as the come from resistor wire
87a (normaly close) go to hi-beam (red wire)
????

I did yesterday, 85-12v, 86-grounded, 30-drl wire, 87-hi-beam ......and my HID still open BUT i haved drl on my hi-beam:confused:

for now i have 4 beams lighting (low & hi beam) :confused:

When the voltage is switched on to the coil the relay closes and this makes a connection path between 30 and 87. When the relay is off there is a path between 30 and 87a. I don't think you want to use 87a, you need to move that lead from 87a to 87.

but why my hid still working??!! (i got drl on hi-light, but hid's still on)

did you disconnect the resistor from the plug? if you didn't disconnect it your hid will still work.

and i tap one wire between the resistor plug and the resistor (black wire)(negative)

except, i have 03 wrx with the same front like you (2004 STi OEM conversion)

I think 03 drl is not the same as the 04 & 05. We can disable are drl just by disconnecting the resistor. On 03 you have to do disconnect the relay under the glove compartment. There is a thread on how disable your drl. You can start from there then just connect 30 to the ground instead of connecting it to the drl and you're good.

your right, 03 wrx u need to unplug the drl modul control to cut off drl on HID;)

... but now after that thing do, what i need to cut or tap from that plug :confused:

ps: if I post the frontlight wiring diagram, are you able to tell me what wire it need to mod ?

have you disabled your drl before? try to disable your drl that might solve you're problem because the black wire that is connected to the resistor is just a ground that is connected to your hand brake. try to send the wiring diagram you did.

I unpluged th DRL relay.....and nothing changed, so I decide to unplug the DRL module, and up ....DRL gone!!, neeway... i sent the wiring diagram circuit of my car to your email...

I'm not gonna able to check my email till Monday. Try this, on your high beam light plug, try to connect the red wire to ground or negative battery.. You the headlight on to test this,, if it turns on connect 1 end of the resistor to ground the the other end to the relay then connect the other end the relay to the red wire of high beam..

can any one help me i just found this post and i really cant seem to get it:diaf:! i tryed to do it but i ended up frying my relay :sadbanana: and the relay was like $20 bucks i have a 04 wrx and i have after market h.i.ds and i was thinking maybe it does not work with my year:furious:
