Well I hope this is the right section for this.
Anywho, I was working on my car today and I noticed a connector for the power steering pump was disconnected. It's the low one on the back of the pump. I haven't done anything to pull this off, so I'm curious if it's simply been disconnected for some time. Is it supposed to be disconnected for my car? Would it help or hurt if I connected it?
My guess is it's for variable speed (or force) steering or something along those lines. Mine is an 02 Forester, so I don't know if it has the electronics to support this or if it should connected and running? I've had the car for heading towards 5 years now. As far as I'm aware, this is the original pump. I've owned the car since 26k miles, so I would doubt it got replaced prior to my ownership. I can't say if it was previously connected or if previously connected how long it's been disconnected.
My question to you I guess would be what is the wire for? And, is there a specific benefit or drawback to using it?
