HI. I have to go to Sacramento this weekend. I was wondering if there was a good place to eat at out there? Also, are there any good golf courses?

like 99% of the places in downtown sac will RIP YOU OFF! unfortunately i work in downtown and take the bus in.. so i am forced to stay in the area during lunch. there are only like 4-5 places i eat at. 1 time we ate at this mexican place called Vallejos.. i ordered the enchiladas even though i thought it was expensive at ~$11-12.. when they gave me my plate, i got 1 enchilada!! i finished it in 3 bites.. and there went my $12!!!

anyways. my fav place in downtown is the Capital Cafe on 9th street. it's a tiny cafe thats cheap, fast, good, and gives u a decent amount of food.

there are other parts of sac though. since i dont know where you will be exactly and i dont know any other part of sac.. i cant help you anymore.

Mana somewhere around Arden or Edoko somewhere off I50 for Japanese. Sorry I don't remember street names.

Hukilau on O and 16th. Paesano's on Capitol and 18th(?). A few other places. Email me if you want more.

Lots of good golf courses and cheap compared to Bay ARea. Teal Bend off I-5 is one of my favorites. Bartley Cavanaugh is a tight links-type course designed by a world-famous designer (I forget the name at the moment--I'm sure I'll remember in a minute).

Many others. Again, email me if you want.

Go to the Sudwerk brewery across from the Cal Expo, they got pretty good food and fresh brew(it's OK). There is also a Bleachers close to there, off of Arden I think good for Appetizers, Brew and sport watching(sports bar). There is a REALLY good sushi bar by the Arden Fair Mall where the movie theater is. It's not a restaurant though, it's just a round bar you can sit at with really good sushi. There is other places you can eat there too(that are OK at best). There are places downtown like they said, but they are expensive and not worth what they are charging. I spent some time out there and there is nothing to do but go eat and get drunk.

I'd have to say this, since you are from SF, don't keep your hopes up for good food in SAC. There are very very few good restaurants here in my opinion. I drive over to SF to have quality chinese food almost every weekend!

MANA (jap) on corner of Alta Arden & Fulton is not bad.. China Inn - I80 exit Truxel in the Home Depot/Walmart plaza - Teriyaki chicken is pretty good (get some teriyaki sauce and red pepper sauce on the stand). Or you've got the good'ol chain stores such as Outback Steakhouse.. In&Out.. McDonalds if you are despret.

I was told Morton's SteakHouse is in Sac? Anyone been there?

If you're downtown and like Thai food check out Bamboo on J Street. I don't have much to compair it to, but I always drive away happy. :)

As far as fine dining, Biba is the best Sac offers (according to many "experts")--28th and Capitol. Dress nice.

StankFootz, Bamboo is a great suggestion. Unfortunately, it's now closed. I believe it will become a Thai Basil, which is also a great Thai restaurant.

Golf: If you don't mind spending a little more money, Twelve Bridges is very close to Sac. An LPGA tournament is held there every year (Safeway Classic?). I've never played it, but I hear it's very nice.

FYI, there are 58 golf courses within a 45-mile radius of downtown Sac. You're bound to find one you like.

There's "tapa the world" for tapas. It's at 2115 J street. IMO, it's very good and fun! It can get expensive depending on how much sangria and how many dishes you order, but not too bad.

Fat's downtown is pretty good Chinese (upscale, and expensive though) it has been there for like 50 years...or a little more. There is not much in the way of good authentic Japanese food here. If you are getting lunch, and it is a weekday...Bud's Buffet is the best sandwich in town.

theres decent and not so expensive vietnamese food at Little Saigon. I always eat there everytime i visit my aunts in sacramento. I don't know exactly where it's at. I think its on stockton boulevard or something? Its right next to a burger king i think.

Otherwise, good dimsum at one of the big restaurants. Agh, i forgot the name! It's also around the asian business area of sacramento. Someone point the person there. It has 2 stories i think. Bottom restaurant and top restaurant upstairs. Same restaurant, but they have it so that they can have 2 weddings at the same time. But yeah, that's a great chinese place to eat.

Osaka Sushi (8785 Center Pkwy # B140) in Elk Grove is quite good if you want japanese. There's also Korea House (9729 Folsom Blvd) off highway 50/bradshaw rd if you want korean food.

Ive eaten at a few places around here. I live near 25th and N streets (midtown) The Mayflower chinese restaurant on L and alhambra is one of the nicest restauarants around for the bucks.

That restaurant Biba does look nice though Id suspect its a 40 dollar per plate deal.

ditto on Howe avenue there are many eateries to choose from!! All of these places on Howe are VERY busy on fridays and Saturdays so ......... plan ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apologies if this is a multiple post - I got logged out before I finished writing and don't know if the earlier version went through.

Previous posters have covered it pretty well, but it's hard to recommend when you haven't said how much you want to spend or what kind of food you like.

I think Biba's is the best, it's downtown and Italian but you won't get out of there for less than 100 for two. You'll see my wingless WRX wagon there on Friday as it's my wife's birthday.

Little Saigon ain't bad - it is on Stockton Blvd. Viet Ha on Florin near Stockton is good for Vietnamese too without being expensive. Good fusion Vietnamese is at Lemon Grass on Fulton, although you're up to 25 bucks per person there.

If it's not raining too hard, eating on the river can be fun. Rio City Cafe in Old Sac is nice - say around 20-25 per person and walking around Old Sac is fun - be sure to duck into Evangeline's for bizarre things to buy. There is a Chevy's on the river and further up the Garden Hwy is Sushi on the River which has a lot of energy on the weekends.

33rd St. Bistro is casually upscale, not too expensive, and full of 25-35 year olds with money. The Paragarys are nice - pizza, pasta and salads with an atmosphere that's both casual and classy. Paragary also runs a place called El Centro with decent Mexican food, the place is jumpy and noisy and has a pretty intense bar scene. Food takes a long time to get to you though. There is a classy upstairs pool hall around the corner.

I agree with others who mentioned Paesano's - really crowded and a little noisy for me but great, reasonably priced food, and Tapa the World.

There is a Morton's but you are talking really big bucks now.

I don't know golf but Teal Bend is a mile from my house and seems popular.

Bon Appetite

You should head over to Moxie (review here (http://sacramento.citysearch.com/profile/1241698) ). I love that place. They'll make you anything, even if it's not on their menu. They'll run to the store and buy whatever they need if they don't have it in house! Expect to pay a bit though. ;)

Just a little insight (No, not the POS Honda hybrid) to you out of towners:

I really really would not recomend being caught anywhere on Stockton Blvd. between Broadway and Mack (Smack) Rd. after sunset. It is a VERY HIGH CRIME AREA. In the daylight, however, it is a different story. Viet Ha, on Florin and Stockton is aesome...an old building...and ratty looking...but the service and food is "Off the shackle"! Little Saigon...near Fruitridge and Stockton is kicking too!

Just stay away from that damned Stockton after dark. It is the crack hooker, and drug dealer heaven of Sacramento.

Whoever recomended Osaka Sushi, here in Elk Grove...by 24 hour fitness...was giving good advice. My wife is a Japanese National...so I have the most scruitinizing critic of them all...and she gives Osaka the "thumbs up". The sushi there is ALWAYS fresh and good. Priced are on the scope as well...about 35 bones...for 2.

Once again...good luck!
