Hey guys, I'm considering upgrading all the grounds in my engine bay because I'm starting to suspect some of them aren't that great. I've read around on the various grounding mods and how to do them, some used 4g wire, some used up to 8g. The largest I could find around town was 8g (although I didn't look into specialty electrical stores yet). Is 4g really necessary? that stuff is huge! Also, how many ground wires are most of you running who have done this? Some mods state only 3 (batt-ground, engine-ground,chassis-ground i think?) and some are grounding to and from 6-7 different spots. I would assume the more the better but any info is appreciated. Thanks!

8 gauge is fine, and in fact GOOD 8 gauge grounds are much better than crappy, bad install 4 gauge.

8 gauge is fine. i feel 4 gauge is overkill especially if it's directly connected to the battery (more like for big 3). daisy chaining them is ok. compared to direct grounding so you aren't really losing much and will still be able to feel the difference.
for the 02-05, i would do the passenger/driver head, pass/driver manifold, alternator mount bolt. no need to do strut tower or TB.

You should be fine w 8g. There are people that have used 10g and said it works good.

10ga is fine
the real issue is grounding to and from the RIGHT places
there are a LOT of people using pointless places to ground to.....like the strut top studs

So how many points should I ground to? Just the 3 stated by Tahoe? My original plan was to try and find all the grounds I can and replace them all with 8g wire, obviously making sure to do those big 3.

let me be more clear...
1. passenger side head. there's an empty hole there you can use. bolt is same as the one that holds your stock intake air scoop to the radiator shroud.
2. passenger manifold. there are also open holes to use here, right up top. most use an existing bolt that already has grounding wires attached to it.
3. Alternator mounting bracket.
4. driver side head. use the one that the dipstick bracket is mounted to.
5. driver side manifold.

and one from the tb to the manifold and one from the harness grounds on the front lower frame(look just foreward/inboard/below the battery--and the on the other side) to their respective side ground bolts on the inner fenders(helps make the headlights nice and bright)
and taking apart and cleaning/re-greasing all the stock grounds(dont forget the one on the firewall pitch stop mount ;) )

I made a harness up soldered everything I have a pic floating around somewhere

the tb ground works so much better on the DBWs.
the throttle cable motors do ok wth them, but you can feel the most with DBW.
there's just tons of grounds throughout the car, and seeing where some factory lines attach for grounds puzzles sometimes.
