hey guys...unfortunately i need to take a break on my 03 bugeye. i'm going back to college in janurary and my job just laid me off. i was a tech at a dealership here. i need some suggestions on how to keep my block and heads "stored" while they are not being tinkered with. i was thinking keeping the block on the stand and spraying it down with some wd-40 every once in a while to keep them from rusting. and keeping both the heads and block in a engine bag.

I'd just spray them with WD40, bag them and then shelve them!!

or sell them now and assume prices will be cheaper when you have the money to get back into the car ;)

Unless you have some hard to find parts (EJ22T, v7 spec C motor, sleeved cosworth motor) its going to be a safe bet that the parts you will need to buildup your car later, will be cheaper and hopefully the technology will be more thought out too.

fwiw, I had a sleeved N/A 2.5RS block(built for boost) back in 2003. Until 2004-2005, it was pimp...but now with all the EJ257s floating around, there are better blocks out there. So my N/A block is "old tech". :sadbanana: Better cranks, better bearing designs and better gaskets have all come out since the time I built that motor. Not to say its a junk engine (because its not) but for the money, there are better setups out now (for the same money) then when I initially built my motor.

i was thinking about selling it... but i already put eagle rods and .020 over pistons. and i got full BC valvetrain minus the cams. and have full/mild PnP intake, heads, and exhaust. tgv deletes. im just short with my injectors cams and turbo. it sucks being so close yet so far.

do you have any spare cams, injectors or turbo you can throw on and run on low boost? it sounds like you can close up the longblock in which case it should be ok to sit and wait. you will just have to make sure you do a good job priming the oil system before initial startup. is it mostly assembled already?

I would not do that.
It is far better to leave the heads off the engine or at least leave the cams out so that the valve springs all stay "relaxed" as much as possible and not stuck in one position with either intake or exhaust valves open on one head or the other.
WD-40 everything that can rust, bag everything and shelve it....or sell it as others have mentioned.

go ask the government for a bail out lol :)

I`d probably put it on the net for sale and see what you could actually get for all the goodies, and then decide if its worth keeping or selling.

i meant if he has spare parts that arent quite what he is aiming for but enough to get him running this may all be a mute point. at least you could break in the engine while you save funds for parts. just a thought
