View Full Version : SAFC Throttle not reading "zero"
2yLiTe 04-10-2001, 10:32 PM Ok, this just started about a week ago.
When I first installed my SAFC, it was calibrated perfectly to accurately read RPM and throttle point. Lately I notice that even though I'm not on the gas, the throttle reading fluctuates between 0-3.3%...I thought maybe there was some resistance on the throttle cable...so I oiled it. I'm still getting a steady 3%, anyone have any idea? I was thinking of doing the "when all else fails" ECU reset <shrug>
kaos200 04-10-2001, 10:35 PM i thought that was normal?
wouldn't 0% cause the motor to die?
I thought the idling motor (piece on side of throttle body) kept it open as needed for idling...
TaiChih 04-10-2001, 11:40 PM Check your connections, cuz mine reads 0 at idle and I've had mine for about six months.
kaos200 04-10-2001, 11:44 PM oh, okay nevermind mine then...
tmat3 04-11-2001, 05:03 AM Reset the S-AFC by going to Etc. -> Reset All(?) -> Turn the ignition off -> Then On. That's what I did, and it solved incorrect throttle readings.
2yLiTe 04-11-2001, 07:52 AM Ok, I reset my SAFC, but now I'm having a hard time inputing the initial settings.
Sensor Type: Hot Wire
Cyl: 4
Throttle: (arrow pointing up)
Grph Scale RPM: 8000
and now instead of the throttle reading 3% when i'm not on it...it reads 0% till I hit 5%...??????
Help???

tmat3 04-11-2001, 08:01 AM What year is your car? I assume you have MY99 or before since you're using Hot Wire.
Maybe, the SAFC went nuts? Is the connection between the SAFC throttle wire and the ECU throttle wire good? Mine reads 0% (it goes from 0 to 0.4%) when off-throttle. Before that, it was reading way off number including throttle reading only upto 80% when full-throttle. I reset the safc, and everything became good.

2yLiTe 04-11-2001, 02:14 PM I'll try that...wasn't there a post about a bad batch of SAFCs?? I don't think mine is bad...but...you never know. I'll try checking that JulianH. Thanks! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Jason 04-11-2001, 03:52 PM My AFC goes crazy on my throttle % when engine is on, the reading is continously bounce up and down. When the engine shuts off, the reading is pretty accurate. Wonder why......... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
2yLiTe 04-11-2001, 06:25 PM Ok, so when I got home I shut the engine off...just out of curiosity I turn the ignition on and press the accelerator...the throttle reading is dead on! I start the car...and it's still dead on! now I'm really confused...I'm gonna monitor it for the next few days...if it acts up again, I'm heading to Specmo to see Malen... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
2yLiTe 04-12-2001, 01:11 AM I've got a MY98. The battery is disconnected right now...I'm gonna try the reset...
2yLiTe 04-12-2001, 01:25 AM Ok, just checked...it didn't work...
If I go WOT then the SAFC will register 100% but in neutral up to 4kRPM there's nothing.
???????
JulianH 04-12-2001, 01:33 AM Check your actual TPS voltage from the monitor screen, and see if it looks like it is reading properly. Could be a flaky TPS.
