View Full Version : 04 sti day time running lights Lori 12-11-2008, 03:24 PM Does 2004 usdmi stis have day time running lights? GrumpySTI 12-11-2008, 03:26 PM I Know my 05' doesn't. So I doubt the 04' did. Lori 12-11-2008, 03:30 PM do you know if it is possible to convert these lights to be day time running lights? msesno 12-11-2008, 03:40 PM There are slight differences in 04 and 05's but think you're right they do not since the drl for my 04 wrx was just the halogen low beam. If you want em to be DRL.... just.... turn them on every time you get into the car! DRL's don't turn on tail lights so if you just turn your headlights on every time you get in you'll be super extra safe! Hope that helps, cheers and GL EdHilario 12-11-2008, 03:46 PM If you really wanted DRLs then you could wire up your high beams to run on 50% power or even have fogs to turn on separately. I have 04 WRX USDM headlights and the DRLs were the lowbeams on half power. I'm guessing the STi headlights that came with factory HIDs don't have them then? msesno 12-11-2008, 03:50 PM If you really wanted DRLs then you could wire up your high beams to run on 50% power or even have fogs to turn on separately. You sure the factory 04 drls were low beam half power? I thought they were full power.... anyway I think thats why STi's don't have drls because you cant half power HID's, the ballasts actually need more to power up. If you have 04 STi HID's just turn them on every time you're in your car or leave it in the 'on' position that won't drain your battery b/c subaru's lights turn off automatically unlike some other cars (cough)mustang(cough).... She was asking for me, we live in canada, and you need DRLs to pass safty. Unfortunetly it is a US car Mulder 12-11-2008, 08:35 PM She was asking for me, we live in canada, and you need DRLs to pass safty. Unfortunetly it is a US car In that case you have a problem. As you now know the US 04's with HIDs did not have DRLs. The Canadian STi's that year had halogens for this very reason. The halogen DRL system will not work with HIDs as already mentioned. EdHilario 12-12-2008, 06:27 AM Yep, if you wanted to use HIDs, you would need to disable the DRL. We can trade lights if you like lol Mulder 12-12-2008, 07:42 AM Yep, if you wanted to use HIDs, you would need to disable the DRL. We can trade lights if you like lol There are no DRLs to disable. The car is a US '04 STi with factory HIDs and no DRL system. Even a swap to halogens won't solve the issue at hand, which is the requirement for DRLs in Canada where the car is registered. msesno 12-12-2008, 01:13 PM She was asking for me, we live in canada, and you need DRLs to pass safty. Unfortunetly it is a US car How close are you to a/the border? Can you drive over for an inspection in the US or is it a US car now registered to Canada and have to be passed there? I was talking with a guy from canada that wants to go back to halogens because the Canadian STi's do have halogens and DRL's b/c like Mulder says to pass canadian inspect. How did you get it registered? There must be some way to get around your predicament... usually there are some import/classic specs you can register as that will allow you to have older models.... right hand drive etc but I'm not sure about how canadian legislation works. jdubya301 12-13-2008, 02:37 AM is i possible to have a set of aux lights wired up as drls to pass? I was talking about msesno's post and WRX headlights in regards to HIDs. msesno 12-13-2008, 11:04 PM Jdub thats probably the best bet in this case, but I think we're going to need more specific info on Canadian legislation to solve the issue. Ed I'm cool with my headlights, thanks though! I can help ya pick out a new setup if ya like! PM if you want. :) OP, Canadian law anyone? the_saintusa 12-14-2008, 06:35 PM The Subaru dealership set up my lowbeam HIDs (USD STI) to act as my DRL. Took them an hour. As mentioned I just leave the lights in the 'on' position so the taillights are on, and it does not become an issue at night. Works fine. :) |
