View Full Version : Fog light button... broken
Rich L 05-20-2001, 09:16 PM Well.
My fog lights still go on and off...
but the little indicator light on the button itself doesnt go on any more.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif (at one point it would go on/off inconsistantly)
Any ideas what would cause this? A loose connection?
Keith 05-20-2001, 09:22 PM i have the same problem on my rs! Let me know what u find outhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
I just ignore it because I am to lazy to look into it.

SteveS 05-21-2001, 06:45 AM No help from me, either, Rich, but I have the same problem. The lights still work, but the indicator light doesn't. No biggie, but strange.
juggalo 05-21-2001, 06:52 AM same thing happened to me. when i took my car to get my HUD installed it worked before then when i picked up the car it didnt work anymore...?
Maybe the little LED behind there burned out http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif Maybe it disconnected from the wires...
AccidenT 05-21-2001, 10:34 AM Both the light in my fog button and the light in the cruise control button are no longer working http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
The fog one stopped first, and about 2 months later the cruise control stopped too. The features themselves work, just not the indicators.
I posted awhile back requesting the part # for the bulb and scott at subaruparts.com responded, but the post is now giving a 404 error http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
cRayZee 05-21-2001, 11:55 AM I don't thin LED's burn up that easily, if they do burn up at all. Well, as long as you don't put too much current in them or if you put them on backwards, then they won't work.
Rich L 05-21-2001, 12:14 PM Wow!
I think we're onto a major recall here!http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
Shall we picket SOA?!
Seriously...
these little things do irk me.
For what they charge for replacement buttons, they should NEVER blow out!
Anyone ever take pics of repairs made?
That would help me investigate further.
BOTH the Fog and Cruise indicator lights have gone off with both switches still working.
Would love to know a fix if possible instead of just replacement.

sybir 05-21-2001, 02:10 PM Are you guys talking about the illumination on the switch(green outline of the symbol) when parking lights are on, or the orange light that only comes on when the switch is on? The legacy switches are probably the same; I had my foglight switch lose illumination, but the fogs and the orange indicator still worked, now that one works and the problem has moved to the seat heater switch http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
dunno http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Poseidon 05-21-2001, 02:16 PM Sounds like a short or a bad ground somewhere. I'd check the wiring.

Jewbaru 05-21-2001, 02:18 PM damnit, you jinxed me. I look at this post but don't open it. Then I leave for lunch, and my yellow indicator for the fogs goes out. Oh well, no biggie.
Rich L 05-21-2001, 03:03 PM Hey... what is going on here? I didn't realize how many people have the same problem! I guess most of us have not done anything about it because it's such a small issue. Nevertheless I feel that this should not happen.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
My car is only like 2.5 yrs old!
Sorry Jewbaru... we are all in the same boat.
munkis 05-21-2001, 03:27 PM Rich you have more then 36,000 miles? That is covered under warrenty. I have no clue why they are not comming on though.

theGrideimpreza4u 05-21-2001, 04:00 PM smae problem her but in my L been like that for a year now i think there a little bulb in there o well still works though
Patrick L 05-21-2001, 05:18 PM The switch for the Fog Lights in the RS has a light that lights up when turned on witht he head lights on normal. The light that is burnt out is a bulb with a orange boot that goes over it that gives it that color. You can only get the bulb from Subaru. i tried going to the local auto parts store.
The is small, very small. The bulb is about 1/8" in diameter with a plastic base that locks the bulb into place. If you take the switch out. You'll see 2 circular peices on one side of the switch. You just turn it like a 1/8 turn counter clock wise and than the bulb should just can out. There will be 2 bulb. One that the switch uses and a spare it I am correct. The main one will have the orange boot on it and the spare will not.

Patrick L 05-21-2001, 05:31 PM Here are pics that show the right side of the switch.

Revrend 05-21-2001, 08:01 PM Damn Pat, I think you scare me.
Rich L 05-22-2001, 07:48 AM Thanks KC_TopDog!!!!!
Just a quick stupid question...
Whats the easiest/safest waay to remove the button from the dashboard?
Poseidon 05-22-2001, 09:54 AM Pop out the coin tray in front of the fuse box and reach up behind the switch to push on the plastic tabs that hold it in place. It should pop right out.

After taking both buttons out:
I don't think these are "spare" bulbs.
1 is to illuminate the entire switch when your lights are on (the bulb with the colored boot)
1 is to light up when the switch is activated (clear bulb)
Both bulbs do not work on either switch with all fuses working.

White Knight 05-22-2001, 07:37 PM I have a question for any one here what if we want the bulb to be red? Is there a red colored boot out there that we could buy?
Thanks to all that can answer this question of mine.
Imhotep 12-30-2002, 11:09 PM Why do so many, if not every Impreza have this issue? I have never owned nor heard of these kinds of lights failing so often. If this is not a defective design, i dont know what is! Has anyone dealt with Subaru of America about this issue?
