View Full Version : NY Auto Show: Don't bother

Today's NY Times included a 32 page advertising supplement for the upcoming NY Auto Show. I skimmed it and Subaru gets one mention, as expected in a section titled "Cool New Cars of 2002 You Can See at the Auto Show Now." Here one finds their description of the Subaru Impreza WRX: This WRX model comes only with full-time all-wheel drive, limited-slip differential and a 5-speed manual gearbox. ... a pocket rocket to appeal to kids who've been hot-rodding Honda Civics in their back yards.
Next to this lame summary is a picture with the caption "Subaru Impreza WRX" which shows an old (6-spoke wheel) 2.5RS sedan.

Idiots.

Yeah, I saw that too. But, I'm still going to the autoshow next week. It's close to my apartment and work anyways.

There's lots of other interesting stuff to check out at the New York show than just the Subaru stuff.

That's too bad. It still looks like it will have some cool cars, though. Wish I could go.

Sounds more like a reason not the bother with the New York Times than the Auto Show.

[Opps, sorry just read that it was an advertising supplement, not NY Times Review]

I'm sure they'll have the wrx at the show.. i don't quite understand why the promoters weak description of the car and a miss-matched file photo means that the NY show isn't worth going to? They bring the same booth they had at the chicago, LA, detroit shows.... I'm going down from Albany.. It's a fun time!

What do you guys expect?!

NO major periodical(I don't consider SCC major) has even given it the cover! From reading them, it seems like only a couple of the editors even UNDERSTAND the significance of the car, while the rest have a stereotypical attitude like the caption above.

They're too stuck up on BMWs and SUVs... as if everybody could spend $35k-$80k on a car. I'll take the bug-eyed bargain, thank you.

You DO KNOW there are other many really cool cars besides Subaru and its ugly WRX?

No, you did not know that? Well, I just told you. You may actually want to go there and see for yourself. After all I might be lying to you. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I think it is really cool that nobody really knows anything about our cars....Including the press....We're still "Underground."

That is great!

Actually, compared to what Detriot got, every other Subaru showing is lacking in comparison. Perhaps everyone after Detriot got what was at detriot, but the Subaru showing at L.A. was very poor compared to what Detriot had.
