inmledoml23 01-15-2009, 10:03 PM Should get to meet you there Chiketkd. The guys have convinced me to finally travel to a few events this year. Hopefully I will be able to keep improving in STU.
Chiketkd 01-15-2009, 10:30 PM Cool - I'll be hanging out with Disimo & Ruggles from your region. Come on over and introduce yourself.
Chiketkd 01-16-2009, 12:37 AM Link to entry list is now active. Looks like many people (myself included) are having problems with the online reg system. Only IE seems to be working.
steverife 01-16-2009, 12:39 AM Looking forward to it!
neilschelly 01-16-2009, 01:38 AM I can't sign up. I'd like to do it before I go on vacation, but so far no luck.

The newest version of IE seems to be giving people the least problems.
Chiketkd 01-16-2009, 10:18 AM Alright - I'm registered.
neilschelly 01-16-2009, 10:34 AM The newest version of IE seems to be giving people the least problems.
I haven't used a Windows system in years. I guess I'll sign up when they make it not suck.

inmledoml23 01-16-2009, 11:19 AM Registered!!! Wish it was sooner. The damn RE-11s should be great, but unfortunately, I will be trying out the Kumho XS's that I just recieved yesterday. Considering neither Kumho or Dunlop pays any contingency money, I wish that I would have gotten another set of Dunlops.
digitalseance 01-16-2009, 11:30 AM Registered. I hope to not be the lone entrant again this year in ESP. :unamused:
Fastech 01-16-2009, 12:30 PM Registered. I hope to not be the lone entrant again this year in ESP. :unamused:
No, I'm bringing a friend with me who is developing an ESP WRX. He'll be happy to have some competition, and if the weather's crappy, you guys should have a good advantage over the Pony Car boys!

I'm betting Kuhmo announced theirs about a day or two AFTER he placed his order!

There were no pony cars last year. Jose and myself were the only two entrants (same car) in ESP last year.
Have your friend go ahead and register! :D

Are you going to have a co-driver this year Phil?

Me me me waving arm in the air.........
actually I have some freshly aquired I-Speed power so I want to beat me some civics
SpeedTheory 01-16-2009, 07:55 PM I'm having trouble registering. Keeps asking me to pick an event fee when I already have.
Chiketkd 01-16-2009, 09:17 PM ^ Ryan, do you have Internet Explorer? If so, try registering on that.
SpeedTheory 01-16-2009, 09:29 PM Yep. Already took care of that...bah humbug.
Scooby South 01-16-2009, 09:33 PM Hmmmmmmmmm.....drive my own (FSP car) or Cockroach a ride with Phil????

If I weren't set on running STU, I would definitely have liked to drive with you Phil. As for STU, I hope lots of people sign up, and I hope I drive well.

He tends to drag his feet about registering for events, but I am pretty sure he will make it. Another local guy, the one who ran a SM Thunderbird Super Coupe in several NT's last year , is putting together a CTS-V in ESP trim (yes, yes, he marches to the beat of a different drummer!) and might actually be pretty fast. He is planning to make the trip as well.
So I'm doing my best to hook you up with some ESP competition. How about sending me some BSP guys, so we can make a class for contingencies?:disco:

I hope you bring yours. I am currently planning on being there myself. That said, if they don't fix the registration system, this season will be a lot less eventful for me.

Find me some light-ish 18x9.5s for a decent price and you've got a deal. ;)

CTSV in ESP? Is that right?? (runs to rule book)
Working on two BSP STi's here in Jax. Nobody is biting as of yet though...will poke their ear this Sun at our first event.

Son is quick! They were both there last year IIRC...
AUTOXDUDE 01-17-2009, 02:25 AM I might be there in ESP, but, have to buy a car first, lol
AUTOXDUDE 01-17-2009, 02:25 AM Which year would be better for ESP 07 or 09 for a WRX?

nice...although its been done..;)....McCance did Safety Orange on his RPF-1's...looked great...definitely stands out...:)
Bill
SpeedTheory 01-17-2009, 01:40 PM Yeah, that's the goal here...haha.
Between sponsor stickers / contingency stickers, I'm going to be driving around the most ricetastic Mazda3 in town. Makes it even worse that it's a stock class car, that appears....well...stock.
JamesWilson2 01-17-2009, 02:37 PM I'm game for a cheap HS or FSP ride.
dstan 01-17-2009, 07:55 PM ST class is up to 5 already

He's talking about minimum participation numbers for contingency payouts. The more participants, the more places will get something typically.

I was asking Bill about his comment in bold, I do already know about filling a class up for contingentcy (lucky if any of that will happen this year), which was why I posted ST has 5 already. Please don't take this post as being smart ass, I am still somewhat a n00b. this will be my 3rd NT event
Dave
neilschelly 01-18-2009, 11:17 PM No worries - I just didn't notice the part in bold. I figured if you edited it at all, you'd edit out the part you weren't replying to.
That said, I'm registered now. I figured out where I could get a chance to try IE7 on the site. I'm on vacation in Hawaii, but I VPN'd into my work network, VNC'd into our Windows virtual machine our webmaster uses for IE testing, and registered through that. It worked. And I've given an earful to the registrar and IT person listed on the SCCA website about how pathetic it is that people are required to use a second-rate, insecure browser to register for an event.
Now, I just gotta get down to the middle of nowhere. I'm sure the 20 hours will just fly by with no stereo, no AC, a deafening exhaust note, and aluminum race seats. Woohoo!

Chiketkd 01-18-2009, 11:32 PM actually I have some freshly aquired I-Speed power so I want to beat me some civics
How's the weight savings coming along Dave? Have you weighed your car recently? If you want to beat the civics - weight needs to be a priority.
Btw, as you ran the Dixie event last year, you know the type of course that will be laid out at SGMP. From folks that run there all the time with the Dixie region, the courses on that lot don't vary too greatly. Definitely set your car up for transitional elements/offsets (that's where the civics are deadly) and maybe a tad looser than normal to keep understeer at bay.

I don't see much to save legally so I went with the few extra HP I could get to start with.
Yes the course is very busy and Fast but my car is Very neutral now and I have some new Bridgestones and have learned alot at some bigger lots we have locally (Michelin Proving Grounds, Carowinds). But I am always open for input. Thanks
Chiketkd 01-18-2009, 11:56 PM I'll talk to you through pm/e-mail. You need to be right on your minimum weight at Dixie and every national event you attend.
Hey I'm not the greatest driver, but my co-driver is better than I am. I told him when we started our co-drive partnership that I was going to give him a car that was capable of winning. At Nats my car weighed 2,830lbs which put us at one of the lightest 06+ RX-8's at Nats (if not the lightest). There's a lot of weight to be saved, it may not always be pretty though...
dstan 01-19-2009, 12:01 AM Thanks I am always open to help. I can say one thing about the reflash is I am still pulling over 6k now :banana:
alltracin 01-19-2009, 12:03 AM Read the rulebook. Practically memorize the section about your class. Then interpret what "x" allowance really gains you. *SP rules allow a lot more weight redux than I even realize at this point...I sure ST is the same for you at the moment. People looking over hollis cars usually come away with several more ways to make their car lighter in very short order..
Chiketkd 01-19-2009, 12:08 AM Dave, read through this thread (especially posts 6 & 7): ST 2.5RS Weight (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1129591)
I imagine you'll need to keep your a/c in that car for '09, but if you still have the stock seats, a good target "racing weight" should be 2,700lbs flat. Corey's car was in the 2,650lbs range.

I guess the best place to start is weigh my car and post tomorrow. Snow in the morning  Thanks everyone for your input, I take it any Battery that starts your car is acceptable.
digitalseance 01-19-2009, 09:50 AM Video: Personal best at Axis vs Allies Dec 2008 at Dixie Region's SGMP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvs3FRCyG4U) for anyone who would like to see a non-NT course at SGMP.

Correct - you need to know what she weighs now and work from there. Ask my co-driver, I weighed my car at every NT and pro solo we attended in '08 as well as at Nats. I did little things like take out all my cd's, remove the front license plate frame etc. to legally drop weight. It all adds up...
Correct. I'm sure many can give you advice on some lightweight batteries to use. Braille batteries come to mind but they're others that work just as well. One thing, with a lightweight battery, be sure you have a strong battery tie down or else you will not pass tech. If you cannot get one fabricated between now and Dixie, keep the stock battery and shave weight somewhere else (racing seats, etc).
JamesWilson2 01-19-2009, 05:30 PM He was just talking about my calm demeanor and uncanny ability to whomp arse while flying under the radar....right? :)
I am weighing driving vs flying costs now, plus any codrive costs that may be incurred. I need another job :(
steverife 01-20-2009, 03:05 PM Bill, it looks like Jinx is laying claim to FSP #193.
James, you need to see if you can talk Trey into bringing the Subie. He told me no, we need more people to prod him. :)
Chiketkd 01-20-2009, 03:25 PM Bill, it looks like Jinx is laying claim to FSP #193.

I guarantee that if you guys leave it as it is right now, when you go to check in, Jinx will have 93/193 and you'll have to choose something else.
Just saying. I generally get 34 in whatever class I'm running if I want it for the same reason.

Chiketkd 01-22-2009, 10:03 AM Does anyone know if the problems with the reg system have been fixed? 59 registered as of 9am this morning is not inspiring...

ROFLCOPTR! Are they trying to keep people out of this event?!
JamesWilson2 01-22-2009, 02:31 PM Closest airport to the event site, other than the county airstrip? Need to fly in from Houston. Thanks.
Nevermind, found Hou to Valdosta $407 r/t...or $218 r/t to Jacksonville FL. Hmmmmmm.
digitalseance 01-22-2009, 02:35 PM Closest airport to the event site, other than the county airstrip? Need to fly in from Houston. Thanks.
For regular commercial planes, you're looking at Jacksonville or Atlanta. If you are going small, then Valdosta has an airport.
JamesWilson2 01-22-2009, 02:43 PM Then I'd have to hitch a ride, or get a rental car from Jacksonville to Adel, GA about 144 miles. Not sure if I'd end up about the same cost or not, but saving $10 in the end is actually worth it to me now that my job sucks :)
Edit-- planning out loud, rental car is $104 from Fri-Sun night plus fuel for 300 miles.
Or, drive 1650 miles round-trip and take two more days off work. No thanks!
digitalseance 01-22-2009, 04:55 PM Leave Houston at butt-crack AM, land in Jacksonville at (or before) 10am, hitch ride with one of the JMS-ers, stay at same hotel as co-driver, hitch ride to airport Sun evening. Leave Jax at 10pm to arrive in Houston at 10pm (gotta love those time changes ;) ), throw $20 to driver for extra gas and trouble.
just a thought....
Scooby South 01-22-2009, 05:43 PM Then I'd have to hitch a ride, or get a rental car from Jacksonville to Adel, GA about 144 miles. Not sure if I'd end up about the same cost or not, but saving $10 in the end is actually worth it to me now that my job sucks :)

I forsee a caravan from Jax to Cecil Friday AM and Sunday PM. ;)
I will not be taking off Monday though. Have to keep the vacation time in the bank in case there's more Black Lake events in the future or if I do actually decide to roll up to Peru, IN for that tour.
Fastech 01-22-2009, 11:38 PM Only 3 more to go! :)
That was my buddy I mentioned from Chattanooga, Robbie Peterson. Our CTS-V guy is also intending on entering but is not in a hurry to register- it is still almost 2 months away, remember- but I expect he will make entrant #3. So theoretically, all you guys need is a couple co-drivers in some of those cars...

Chike,
Thanks for the note. I am aware of the issue, but neither I nor the IT
DEPT has a solution for the problem. I admit that I am not a computer
person. I have been instructed to tell everyone to use Internet Explorer
instead of other browsers.

Chiketkd 01-24-2009, 02:36 AM Justin, no prob. You'll have fun driving Martin's STi - I kow I did!
I know John Lawson is from the same scca region as Ruggles, Disimo and Mike King - he's on this board and if you need his username I can get it for you. Hopefully, one more person will sign up for the class.

Sorry, I like my current location. ;) While it would be cool to be IT for scca, their location is limiting their talent.
I've written two online registration systems for two different clubs. Both are IE/FF/SF compatible. It's not hard, you just have to know what javascript you can use. Best option for all is server-side validation instead of client side. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k192/penguinlordphoto/smile/26.gif Not to mention the udder failure of myscca. That site was doomed from the get-go. The scca "portal" is an extremely poor design as well.

My codriver didn't register for the DC ProSolo until May. He got in. In fact, I don't know of anyone on the "wait list" these past two years that didn't get in.
It's become so ridiculously legendary, that everyone and their mother signs up for it, on the "off chance" that they are going to go, and then a metric fecal-ton of people cancel in the months heading into the event, as they realize they can't/don't want to go (for various reasons).

IE7 is only available on Windows. Some of us are smart enough not to use it. If I were forced to use Windows somewhere, I would still avoid using IE7 at all costs for safety's sake. And if I had to open it up to do something as simple as register for an event, I would loudly complain. It's a sign of a severely incompetent web developer in this case.

I wish I could get to more DC events during the year. It's really difficult with two boys under 4yrs old right now.
While I was reasonably close to Tom, Aaron was definitely faster than both of us on each day. If it weren't for his cones on Wed he was gone. He still beat Marshall for 3rd with a cone.
I'm jealous of all the people who are gonna hit this event in March...it's serious frozen tundra winter up here. My garage has been in the 30's for weeks and it's insulated.

You will be in STU I hope. Still have many weeks, so I definitely hope that they come in soon for you. I have the Tarmac 2s, RCE camber plates (front), and Cobb sways (f and r), but no power mods yet. I can get the components, but would like an STU tune lined up before I put them on. moxnix 02-02-2009, 07:34 PM What is wrong with it? I just registered using firefox without problems.
Scooby South 02-02-2009, 07:37 PM can"t look at entry list..:unamused:
neilschelly 02-02-2009, 07:42 PM They did fix the Firefox registration problems, which is awesome. That said, it's still not right. As Scooby South noted, you can't see entry lists. I also found a potentially more problematic bug for anyone who's registering for a few events.
I registered for the Toledo Pro without issues. Then I continued to register for the Finger Lakes Tour and noticed that the $95 price was still by the "Recalculate" button and the "items" I could check off to register for were still the Toledo Pro entries. The top of the page said I was registering for the tour, but the bottom of the page was definitely not. I closed my browser and started it up again to ensure I could enter the site with a clean session and it worked as expected. But I imagine a few people may be getting double-registered for some events, or at least paying too much. Perhaps some people are getting registered for ProSolos for only $90 - who knows...
I'm glad to see it's fixed somewhat at least. I hope they get the rest of these issues resolved though. A lot of people won't register without seeing how their class is shaping up first.

moxnix 02-02-2009, 08:00 PM can"t look at entry list..:unamused:
Entry list is not registration.
Also it is only the links on the SCCA site that are broken for the entry list. If you use the link Chike has on the first post of this thread it works fine.
The problem is all the links on the scca site have an extra space at the start of the event key when trying to look at registration lists.
example from finger lakes tour
http://ams.scca.com/netforum/eweb/dynamicPage.aspx?site=scca&webkey=9923d8a8-4595-4138-986e-5a66d470be49&evt_key= e661cae0-d786-4858-b8fb-9f174e3e84b0
If you remove the extra space from the link right after the evt_key= it works fine.
http://ams.scca.com/netforum/eweb/dynamicPage.aspx?site=scca&webkey=9923d8a8-4595-4138-986e-5a66d470be49&evt_key=e661cae0-d786-4858-b8fb-9f174e3e84b0

I didn't know that was him in the red forester, but I did think that he was part of JMS. I believe that I watched a video recently of him in the 135i. I got to drive one (showroom stock) on Sunday for a lap and it was a nice car. I used it for STU, and lost by two tenths to a well prepped Evo, but could have done much better with a couple more laps. It was an auto, and I chose to just leave it in "D". I wouldn't have been able to get that close to me in my car, but probably within a couple of seconds. If RedTRex can get some coilovers, camber plates, and some good tires (the runflats suck), the car would be really fun to drive. I can't imagine how much power it would make on a nice STU tune. That thing would be a handfull!!
Good luck getting a few more in ESP.
I hope we all drive well!

^^^ true...this is really his first 'major' build....as he was in DS before...he's already done a catback...supposedly tires are on the way...and he's looking to do th Vorslag plates before the tour...Oh..did I mention its his first one...Decent driver...has run this thing for about 6-8 monthes now...we have a pretty competitive STU group locally and talk bunches of smack to one another...so its all in fun...His biggest benefit is he know's the track surface and will continue to know it as there are 2 local events at the site before the tour...

inmledoml23 02-04-2009, 01:59 PM STU is a fun class to run in, and most of us would like to see some rwd cars that can compete. The problem is getting the power down with the rwds. Rick, what tires will you be running? I am on the Kumho XS's right now (brand new), but I might change to the RE-11's.

RedTRex 02-04-2009, 02:19 PM Still trying to decide between XS's (49%) and RE11's (51%)......:)
SGMP seems very slippery to me (at least on the RFT's) nonetheless getting the power down was the easy part; keeping the front end in-line proved harder, but better tires and camber will cure that.
inmledoml23 02-04-2009, 02:31 PM At your current power level, getting it to the ground is not that difficult, but if you were to run an agressive STU tune (+40-50hp), then you might struggle. Regardless, you won't get it down as quickly as the AWD's on street tires.
Concerning SGMP surface, the XS's might prove to hold their own when the grip is lower (softer sidewall). Part of me wants to give them a shot since I have them on now.

Thanks for the confidence. I usually am pretty consistent, but down here, we have great drivers in different classes, so it is hard to know where I stand. DiSimo has to be off for me to match up with his CS PAX time, and it would be the same with K Rankin. We have good STU classes, but no good mixes of good drivers and good setups. The Subaru Challenge course benifited me well.
RedTRex 02-05-2009, 02:50 PM You guys crack me up .... this should be an interesting race...

What wheel and tire sizes do you run front & rear?
RedTRex 02-05-2009, 10:29 PM What wheel and tire sizes do you run front & rear?
You want all my secrets Chike ...... .......actually the plan is 18x8.5F with 255/35's and 18x9.5R with a 265 or 275/35 unfortunatley don't see a 285/35/18 in XS's or R11's
RedTRex 02-05-2009, 10:34 PM BTW - you may have to deal with 2 of us (2 different 135s), trying to get another local to show. From what I hear he's good - but I will see for sure this Sun (8th).

inmledoml23 02-06-2009, 06:58 AM Super! I hope a few E46 M3's register. The 135 I drove was stock, but it still reminded me of an E46 M3. At least in regards to power delivery and balance. The M that I have got to drive, is BSP (ASP at the time) prepped, but on great street tires. I wish my STi had the same front end behavior (turn-in and balance) and gearing (and/or rev limit). The course I was on favored my car with a virtual drag-like start, and a turn around that was better for my gearing (low part of second but too high for first) and differentials. This meant that none of us could get the M3 below 31.0 compared to my 30.5.

Oh, yeah, Hi Superman!
SpeedTheory 02-09-2009, 12:34 AM I now have an H-Stock co-drive available in an '08 Mazda3, fully prepared on A6s. Let me know if you're interested.
neilschelly 02-10-2009, 10:44 AM So who's staying where? From what I hear, Adel is pretty empty and camping isn't really a viable option. I guess Valdosta is the place to go for a decent selection of food and places to stay.
-N
Chiketkd 02-10-2009, 10:50 AM Valdosta is 12 miles away down the interstate. We stayed there last year, but my co-driver and I wanted a place a bit closer to the event site this year. IIRC, we went with the Super 8 Motel in Adel. The SCCA staff will be at the Days Inn in Adel. We'll probably go down to Valdosta for dinner one night to hang with friends.
digitalseance 02-10-2009, 11:18 AM Scooby South and I are at the Day's Inn in Adel.
We'll venture to Valdosta for dinner each night most likely. Easier to drive longer to dinner and back than to the event.
neilschelly 02-10-2009, 11:32 AM Alright, I'm booked for the Day's Inn too. If anyone wants a bed nearby, I'll split my room fee with someone who wants to join in. And a cheap co-drive opportunity in my car is still available.

For which car are you offering the codrive. I assume the FSP car. I will be in STU, but if the car is competitive, my brother might be interested.
neilschelly 02-10-2009, 03:46 PM I've only got the FSP Subaru (http://www.jenandneil.com/28fsp). As for competitive, that's all a manner of speaking. The Impreza is most definitely not the ideal FSP car and its arguable that it can never be competitive with the ridiculously lightweight Civics and GTIs and such. That said, I'm trying to change that perspective. It's at least locally competitive, but this event will be the first time I get to go up against the names that typically dominate FSP nationally.
If you're interested, PM me outside of this thread...

I'm in. Don't really know what's in the Valdosta area, though. Not any locals to ask, either (that would come out to my regional events and have a better idea).
