SOLD!
I have it on CL as well here's the ad:
Dark Blue 1992 Honda Civic LX. 1.5 L four cylinder, 5 speed manual. 213k or so miles. Used as a daily driver, 75 miles/day (about 70% highway)
Here's a list of the good and bad:
Bad:
- Body is not in great shape. Parts of the fenders have been either sanded down or bondo'd then painted a light blue. Doesn't look extremely pretty, but there are no big dents or rust visible.
- The front windows used to be power, but I converted the fronts to manual. The rears are still power and work.
- Power door lock switch doesn't work.
- The driver's side window molding/weather stripping should be replaced. There is increased wind noise, but water DOES NOT leak in.
- Sometimes the radio cuts out. If you tap the volume knob it'll come back. This is probably just a loose connection and an easy fix.
- The transmission will grind when shifting in to R occassionally. To prevent this, I shift into First then R. I had the same problem with another car I had from 30k miles to 110k+ miles, and it never lead to any issues.
- The speedometer doesn't work. I printed out a chart matching RPMs/gear/MPH. Just memorize the RPMs of a few key speed limits and you'll be fine. I've never been pulled over for speeding in this car.
- Sometimes I get a slight moldy smell in my car on the more humid days or if I leave the car sitting for a few days with the windows up. The smell goes away if I crack the windows and run the fan for a bit.
I'm 99% sure that the smell mostly comes from moisture that accumulates in the passenger footwell. Some fixes to this may be to replace the carpet or track down a leak (from the passenger door, windshield or it could be a leaking heater core?) The previous owner was a smoker so that may be contributing a bit to the smell also. But it's not terrible once the fan has been running for a minute or two.
It sounds like a lot, but they are relatively minor and I can't think of any other problems.
The Good:
- No mechanical problems. The engine runs like it's brand new.
- Tires have good tread
- NEW battery
- NEW oil pan
- NEW timing belt/water pump
- NEW CV joint(passenger front)
- NEW front spring/shock assemblies
- NEW spark plugs
- NEW air filter
- 39 MPG
I think I've covered pretty much everything.
I also have all of the maintenance records for the car since I bought it.
