I have a 06 wrx wagon and my low beams and my fog lights go out periodically like in one year i replaced three fog light bulbs, and about 4 low beam baulbs ,, Now i did put in the sylvania silverstars in them, i wear latex gloves and everything when replacing them to make sure nothing gets on them ,, if any one has any idea why this is happening or if there maybe a better baulb out there to use please PM and let me know.

Thankyou

I'm having the same exact problem with two 06 2.5i's. One sedan and one wagon. I go through about 4 headlights and foglights on each car every YEAR. It's getting ridiculous. The dealership checked the grounds and wiring and said everything is okay. I don't start the car with the headlights on either.

I think I'm going to make a relay harness to power the lights directly from the battery. This might help to eliminate any voltage spikes that could be occuring. I'm also considering installing a 1/2 farad capacitor on the battery to help regulate the voltage.

The only thing you did wrong was buy terrible bulbs. The problem is that you are using Sylvania Silverstars. They are probably one of the worst bulbs on the market. Surpassed in badness probably only by PIAA. PIAAs are pretty much the same as the $5 bulbs on EBay but they cost $75ish. Think of both of them as the Tein S Techs of headlight bulbs. Thanks to good advertisement they are super popular but in reality they are worse than the stock part.

I love how the Silverstars say on the package that they are 30% brighter. What they don't tell you is that that is before they put the blue filtered globe on them. That reduced the light output to less than the stock bulbs.

I had a set in my car when I first got it, and didn't know anything about lighting. They are notorious for burning out quickly. When I worked at an auto parts store a few years ago, it was amazing how many of those things came back within a month or so burnt out. The blue coating on the globe not only reduced light output but it also heats the bulb up way higher than it is supposed to get. Then add that to the already brighter an hotter filament, and life will suffer.

Get a good set of clear glass bulbs from a good manufacturer. The +50 bulbs sold by Osram, Narva, Philips, etc are all great choices.

I stopped my blub blowing streak after the disable of DRL.
Not sure about your fog lights, tho.

clean the plugs and use some dielectric grease on them
