View Full Version : Alternatives to 2.5RS
02RS SOON 04-11-2001, 11:47 AM Originally I was considering purchasing a 2.5RS because I love the new bodystyle. Lately however I was thinking, about getting a inexpensive project car (justy?) and modding the hell out of it.
Any suggestions on a car like this?
Doesnt have to be a subie..
there are no alernatives...
Actually... don't buy a 02 - they are much heavier & not as well equipt. IMHO your much more likely to find a good deal on a used pre 02 RS... the market is saturated w/ trade ins.

Kostamojen 04-12-2001, 03:09 AM Get the 2002, the chasis, interior, and the way it drives is just so much better, and the 90lbs wait gain is un-noticable.
Faraz 04-12-2001, 10:47 AM Integra Type R 24k

SHADOWES 04-12-2001, 10:57 AM Don't Get a JUSTY, Find and RX for sale or an older hatch back the justy is to different of a car. The RX, brat, hatch back (like a GL or something),legacy, and impreza all have very symaler drivetrain and engine locations and you can do some really cool conversions to the older light weight cars.

jlyttle 04-12-2001, 11:10 AM Where exactly can I buy an AWD BMW 330 series for $30k? I am thinking MUCH closer to $40k.
Inexpensive project car. Hmmmmmmm, I've always liked the 1991 Audi Coupe Quattro. They are resonably priced, well equiped, and a blast to drive. Just about the same hp as an RS too. Check em out.
Michael 04-12-2001, 12:06 PM i have to agree with jlyttle...
where can you get a 330xi for 30k?
the only 30k ish bmw that i know is probably the 323i....because my friend bought one and it was like 34k after taxes...
another friend bought a 330ci for around the 40k area...
and he told me that the 330xi would cost 5k more than the one he has now...
just my 2 cents
michael
Hey there guys, the best price I could make it was $28,735.00 for the basic 325i with the all wheel drive system(turning it into the "xi" trim). Not to bad if you ask me.

Gambit 04-12-2001, 12:50 PM those early quattro coupes are a mechanic's friend. It spends most of the time in their garages. In time the owner would be the one who pays for the mechanic's kid to college. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
02RS SOON 04-12-2001, 02:01 PM My budget is under 23,000 dollars... forgot to mention that. How do you guys feel about a early 90's 300ZX TT? Lemme know --..
10th Warrior 04-12-2001, 02:08 PM i'd pick up a supra TT from the same date, if thats what you are looking for. i don't think you can compare the Z or supra to an RS though. whole different kettle of fish. i suppose the answer to your question depends on what you want to do with your car. auto-x, drag, rally, show, street.
SubyRacer 04-12-2001, 02:18 PM 1993 impreza L coupe $2000 (weighs about 2350lbs)
EJ20 engine/tranny/ECU 12k...
then dress it up to look like an old style WRX..and youve got your self a WRX that weighs about 2650 after AWD system convertion.
1992 Civic CX hatch w/ lots of mile (weighs about 2000-2100lbs)...$2000
B18C5 motor/ECU/tranny 7-10k
JRSC supercharger/intercooler 3k
and now your running 12's....
