Tires will heat up unless it is really cold outside. I live in ND, where temps can be cold even in the summer. My V710s heated up fine, but at the expense of some chunking of tread on the shoulders. So it can get pretty expensive if you have to replace expen$ive tires fairly frequently. The old Azenis 615s were pretty good, even in the cold. My street tires now are Dunlop Star Specs and they are really pretty good down to 40* or so (street driving, mind you).

How cold are you talking?? A few years ago I did a little comparo in cold weather with my G-Tech and a set of Nokian NRW and a set of RE 070s (stock tires, but this was a replacement set). It was just under 40* and windy. The Nokians, despite their soft sidewalls and "vague" turn in had far more geip, both sustained and transitional. Once I got some heat on the RE070s, they came aropund and out performed the Nokes.

I guess you have to look at your temps and how long your course will be, as well as your cue times between runs and make a decision....

70* is really quite warm. I would not hesitate to run r-comps down into the 50s.

well bc ive gone to events and the dash said 26* and 40-50s threw the day . one pro driver i talked to said street tires are close to r comps up to 70 and after 90 they actualy grip to much for awd cars.

well someone well respected said over 90 deg rear wheel drive cars have a advantage over awd with r tires harder to rotate the car . i already have my new wheels and r comps, just wondering if there is a advantage to using a sticky street tire in the early part of the season. end of last season someone on starspec tires got ftd and there were some very well preped cars on r tires . jv
