Is a Greddy Pressure Relief Valve *SP Legal?

In the 2009 SCCA Solo rules I found the following: 15.10C4d states "No changes are permitted to blow-off/pop-off valves." That would be a no.

e) Compressor bypass valves (CBVs) are considered part of the air intake system, and may be added, replaced or updated/backdated independently of the other components of a forced induction system.

The Subaru uses a CBV, not a blowoff valve. Since it also attaches directly to the I/C, which is also changeable, I believe it is also legal.

However, if it's not a Subaru, it depends on what the FSM calls it. The Nissan product you linked to wouldn't be legal if the Nissan FSM calls it a Blowoff/Pop-off valve.

ask for my 93 Rx7

Depends on what the factory service manual calls it. :)

From the SCCA's standpoint, why the different ruling on BPV/CBV versus a car that comes stock with BOV?

If this is for an FD, did you swap the radiator? That is one of the first things done to an FD for reliability reasons as the stock radiator is terrible. That automatically puts you in SM2 and this is no longer an issue. I would recommend posting on the Solo forum for a better answer. I read the rules as a different recirc valve would be acceptable in ASP but switching to a BOV/POV is not legal. That, however is just my reading. I don't think you would run up against huge protest if you did run in ASP and it was not legal, however.

^^ New rules for 2009 allow changes to the stock radiator as long as weight/dimensions are >= stock for SP classes.

Edit: 15.10.L

Not true....Brakes and Radiators are free to switch now...as long as the radiator is the same size or bigger than stock...

Brakes are pretty much WIDE open now..including Aluminum 2 pc rotor and multipiston Calipers...

Just received my 2009 Rule book...
most of this has been covered in last yrs fasttracks...

if I'm not mistaken, this part works independant of the BPV and throttle position.

Is this thing a "safety" type valve? Like you set it so that it relieves pressure slightly about your target boost pressure so as not to esplode your motor.

If it's in addition to your CBV I would says it's not legal. Not sure if it would be allowed based on intake & intake mani being free to mod. If it's not performance enhancing (and it doesn't appear to be) then I don't see much issue with it. Might run into issues at an NT or Pro.

So this is in addition to the existing BPV on the car? No legal. It's not a compressor bypass valve (only thing allowed by the rules) that's being "added".

From the SCCA's standpoint, why the different ruling on BPV/CBV versus a car that comes stock with BOV? How it's vented? Where it vents to? Where in the process it vents, what pressure is it venting or prevented from being vented?

Should have specified, from a performancing enhancing standpoint, why would the SCCA allow CBV's to be added/removed/etc but not BPV?

Yes, it is a safety type valve exactly as you described. This would be in place in addition to the factory BPV.
