I want to get a dedicated set of tires for autox this year (not slicks) and want to know what type of tires have the longest longevity. I used the stock dunlops last year and want something that will not get torn up so quickly.

You might want to take a look at some of the threads in the tire and wheel section. Also look in the motor sports section to see what those people are using. You will get much better answers than in here. Also, any high performance tire is going to have a short life span especially when you are racing on it.

That bing said, I use the dunlop star specs. They have decent tread life for a high performance tire and I am very please with their performance.

Azenis are 'ok' and are dirt cheap. If you're just learning then I'd say roll with those since you would only be spending like $70/ea for a season of autox. Decent grip but will definitely not last long on the street.

I was lookin at those, I have the order screen opened I just dont know about the longevity. I may buy those or just go back to 3k mile used set of stock dunlops.

A fast tire is going to wear out quick....a long wearing tire is going to be slower, so pucker up and shell out as much as you can afford.

If it's your first season go cheap cos you'll be tearing them up anyways.

Disclaimer - This advice is for STX..In stock I think you can run DOT approved slicks (Nitto/Kuhmo?)

I autocrossed with 3 clubs all last year on RT-615s. I am selling them with 3-4/32s tread still on them. Yeah, they hold up and they are cheap.

The Azenis are decent in the dry, but they get greasy quickly. That was my major complaint with them.

Oh, and they blow dick in the rain. :unamused:

Even if you're sticking with street tires, it's cheaper in the long run to have a second set for autocross and roll on the street with something that will wear better. This of course assumes you've got a place to store them.

I can't speak to the street longevity of the -615's, but they are pretty easy to drive to the limit and pretty grippy.

All of the above save for the Azenis > RE70.

Azenis are great tires. yeah they dont last as long as most passenger tires. But I was able to get like 15k miles out of mine easily and 3 autox events. I still had tread left. As for rain grip, I didnt have a problem with them on the street or highway. I never hydroplaned, prolly AWD had something to do with it. But for the price of those you really cant beat them. The greasy problem that people refer to is orginally a problem of the First generation azenis. They dont make them anymore.

Dunlop is having a $50 rebate. I think the Z-1 Star Spec are as fast or faster than the Yokohama AD-07 on an STi or WRX.

Yeah, really you can. The Star Specs are a whopping $20 a tire more, and are FAR and away a better tire.

Since this question is kinda on topic with the longevity part of the OP's question. What are ways to increase the longevity of your tire?

I think rotating tires would be one of them. I'm also thinking if I get an alignment since my wheel is slightly off. Then also learning what would be a good tire pressure to run would help. I'm just unaware of others. I just bought some new wheels and tires and will be using them almost solely for autoX. The tires are hankook RS-2's if anyone has some feedback on them either.
