Alright guys, i got in a little crash recently while i was in oregon and i put a small hole in my headlight housing. My low beam is no longer working. not sure if it stopped working right away or a while after. i have seen water build up on the inside of the lens while it rains.

The high beam and the turn signal still works but the low wont come on. I dont want to spend the $800+ on getting a whole new headlight. im wondering if their is anyone with any experience with dealing with cracked housing and headlight out. My guess is either the igniter or the ballast. Please put any helpful input up.

THanks in advance.

Personally I would just let the ballast sit in front of a heater or somewhere relatively warm and dry for a day or so and then reinstall it. When you put the ballast back on don't use anything to seal it with. There is a 3inch diameter O-ring that seals it to the housing.

The hole in the lens is going to keep getting your ballast wet and causing this problem often. Eventually you will need to replace the ballast.

I would get a lens for it. The standard Impreza lights most likely use the same lens. I'd check Ebay or the classifieds and find a standard Impreza light and take the lens off of it and put it on yours. Bake the light in the oven at 220 for 10min to warm up the sealant and pull the lens off. When resealing the light only use butyl rubber. Don't use anything silicone like caulk it will not bond to the butyl rubber sealant that is already there. It can cause them to leak worse. There is probably enough sealant there right now so you shouldn't need to add any. If you do need more though, go to the local auto parts store and get butyl rubber windshield sealant. When you put them back together put it back in the oven to warm up the rubber and then press the lens back on.
