what would cause both my fog light bulbs to burn out at the same time. i noticed they werent on the other day just got around to checking the relay and fuses and everythings fine pulled out one of the bulbs and the whole filament is melted to hell. they werent exactly cheap bulbs (PIAA super ion) what would cause them both die and what should i check to make sure it doesnt happen to the next set. i do run them almost all the time

usually when bulbs blow that it's due to voltage being too high, vibration, or bulbs that just don't last too long... I'd check the voltage and see what it's doing. Many auto parts stores can roll a machine out to your car to check the battery and alternator. About 14.5 volts is normal with the engine running. Anything 15 or over is getting too high

it's cause PIAA bulbs are made to such perfect tolerance that they both 'died' at the same time after the same amount of usage ;)

usually after 1 bulb goes out the other follows but for something to occur at the same time, either freak coincidence or a spike in the electrical system.

Just get a multimeter and see what your alternator is putting out!

i work fulltime as a mechanic i know about checking the voltage. its never over 14.5 i just wasn't sure if there were any common problems or just a fluke

You capitalized the problem. PIAA makes overpriced, garbage bulbs. Just looking at the hilarious packaging is enough to make me not want to buy them. I don't understand why people hold PIAA in such high regard but hate Sylvania Silverstars. They are both equally terrible, but PIAA rapes your wallet more.

When it comes to lighting, the OEM manufacturers are the only way to go. Plus they are cheaper. That doesn't happen too often, the cheaper best part you can buy is also cheap.
