View Full Version : 2009 Impreza Real-Time MPG display disabled for USA - can this be re-enabled?

I was surprised to read in the owners manual that there is a real-time mpg display normally between the outside temp and the clock display for the Impreza 09 models. But this was disabled for the USA market cars. My wife drives an 07 Toyota Prius which has a real-time display and I enjoy that, and would like to re-enable this in my 09.

Anyone know of a way to do this? Or is the ECU hard wired to prevent the display from coming on? Right now there is just a black hole there between the outside temp display and the clock. Certainly I can get the average mpg for the trip odometer, which is nice, but I'd like to have the real time display too. Interestingly enough, the Outback has this already.

Thanks!

In my wife's OB it has the real time display and I find it pretty useless because it jump around so much. Even cruising on the HW just easing off the gas a bit causes a big jump and really doesn't help much.

It's still useful information for me, I find I can finesse my driving habits and increase milage somewhat. Climbing hills, try not to have the current mpg be less than twice your speed, etc.
