View Full Version : Exactly how crazy are you about your car?

IMPREZIV

Allow me to start how insane I am when it comes to my car. (BTW I have a 2002 WRX, just sold MY99 2.5RS)
-When it rains, newspapers or some form of paper product are used to cover the floor mats.
-Serioulsy considering a pair of driving shoes that never leave the car to be SURE that there will be no dirt, but changing my shoes eveytime I drive is really not appealing.
-No Drinks!
-If there must be drinks, they must be in bags and not opened.
-Any and all things that are potentially dangerous to the interior must be left outside the car when someone is not in the car to hold these items.
-Routine inspection of doors before and after every ride.
-NO FOOD!!! (not under any circumstances, including transportation of food)
-Smoking will not be permitted in or around the car. Smoking done within the visinity of my car must also follow rules, like no open windows and at least five steps away.
-Any smoker entering my car (including me) must exhale at least ten times to be sure all smoke has been freed from lungs.
-No air freshners, perfume, cologne or any other odiferous products allowed in the car until the new car smell has naturally worn off.
-I avoid roads with excess loose rocks and stones to decrease the chance of dings.
-And of course, I must park far enough away from everything that most of the time I end up walking at least five minutes to get where I'm going. (AKA parking in Guam)

Thats my norotic list for now, more to come. In the meantime, please let me know what kind of wierd ***** you do.
Thanks,
Pete

I used to be like that...

until I got my first few dings and dents. Then I realized that it's just a car. Even though it's my first new car, it's not a $35K BMW or anything like that... so... not much I can do for other people's stupidity. Doesn't change the fact that I had Wal-Mart floor mats during the winter so the 2.5RS logo ones wouldn't get dirty. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

its just matter of time how you keep the rules up....http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
after a while some of the rules won't be in effect anymore

Thanks IMPREZIV!

Good to know I'm not the only lunatic out there.

I also have the annoying habit of "fluffing up" the side bolsters on my seats every time I get out of the car so they stay looking new.
http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif

p.s. I was like this with my 98 OBS as well, when I turned it in (it was leased) the finance guy at the dealer asked me if it had ever been driven!!

Yup, that's me alright. I still will come close to killing for "My" parking sopt at work, which puts my beloved Aly, only 5 feet away from my window. I can keep an eye on her all day that way! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

If you really loved your car, you would stop smoking right away. No matter how many exhales you take before you (or anyone else) gets in, your car smells like *****. Sorry, I just can't stand riding in smokers' cars. Or smoking in general.

Let em put it this way.
-I dont touch my paint without a soft cloth between my cand and the paint.
-You touch the windows? You CLEAN the windows!
-If you dirty it you clean it!

It's just a car. I do my best to keep the outside shiny and clean, and I make an effort to prevent the interior from getting too muddy or scuffed, but most stuff can be cleaned up with a little work. No big deal.

My basic rules:

- No smoking in the car.
- No eating in the car (although I occasionally make exceptions to allow myself to munch on french fries on the way home...)
- If you ding my door when you get out, I'll expect you to be reaching for your wallet before I get close enough to ding your skull.
- If you leave trash in my car, I will pick it up and throw it at you.

That's about it, really.

On a side note, I had a terrible scare yesterday. I walked out of the mall to find that my WRX was nowhere in sight. I couldn't find it. I spent about 15 minutes wandering around the parking lot, praying that I was imagining it and that my car hadn't been stolen. I had finally just about resigned myself to the fact that my new car had been jacked when I realized that I had walked out of the wrong side of the mall. Stupid me. My WRX was right where I left it, on the other side.

Thank God.

I've washed my car four times and never waxed it. 24k miles and counting.

I armour all it every 3-4 days, and that includes ANY piece of plastic in the car, includeing kick panals, roof skirts, seatbelt covers, etc. I also leave about an hour -45 min early for work each day to do this. I carry a tooth brush in the glove compartment to get any and all dust out of any cracks in the dash.
In my trunk I have:
-armour all/ (I think it is actually called something 2000)
-Rain-X (applied once a week)
-Black Magic tire shine (going to Mcguires this spring)
- Package of 25 Wash cloths, (you have to use a fresh one everytime.....)
-Glass cleaner
-touch up paint
-Duct Tape for the little hairs and lint for the seats
-Rain-X winshield washer fluid

I think that's it.

Also my first new car. But My dumb A$$ will be bying new mats from Sugar this summer.

I smoke like a broken stove in the car and out! Eat in the car, oh hell yes, food gets cold. Drink while driving? Yep(no alcohol). Wash it once a week if it needs it or not.

Oh yeah, when I park in supermarket parking lots, I will survey the area for loose carts, and then I will face them in a direction that no matter what they wont roll into my car.
Hey fellfrosch, other cars in my family are a 99 Maxima, 01 X5, 01 Wolfsburg, 00 F250 Pickup, and everyone of them are treated the same way. So to respond, yes it is like I have a BMW, and its treated the same way as the WRX. Its not about the price, its about the love of the car and appreciating what you got.

Used to be like that too for my first car. Now, I take things lighter. No point stressing over a piece of metal. There are more to life than to worry about it. Just take care of the car properly and enjoy it. It's not my first car anyways and it is most definitely not my last! I know I will own something better down the road. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

Wash weekly (or with water restrictions which are hell sometimes every two weeks and that HURTS), wax every three months. Never park beside anyone if I can help it and if forced to park near someone try to pick a small car or an expensive nice car figuring those people are careful. No eating in car. Don't have to worry about too much mess with kids which is fortunate because I'd be like Atilla the Hun. Hate marks on the windows and feel like an absolute queen right after a fresh wax job. It's a real high to drive an awesomely shiny clean car with wheels clean and tires dressed....

Oh yea, careful about shopping carts, also.

Wow. I drive the piss out of my car on logging roads. I cut and drill the interior plastic as I see fit. I've got a set of rubber floor mats, not because I don't want the RS ones to get dirty, because I don't want the floors getting mildewy from all of the water and mud I track in.

Do I love my car? Yeah. It's awesome. But it's just a car. No need to stress. Same with that Jeep I'm trying to sell. It was a $35k Jeep... I took it wheeling, over the axles in mud. I loaded dogs in the back, I've taken a couple of loads to the dump, I've hauled lumber around in it. Even if it costs an arm and a leg, it's just a car. I clean it out and it looks great. But I've lost my urge to feel anal about protecting them.

Well...here I go....

I turned down sex from my wife to go driving in the snow or at the track (not in that order). This has happened not once, not twice but on several occasions. *sigh* You can imagine how long I be in the dog house after this. The more the reason for Scooby and I to go driving some more. You all know I got issues anyway so...Lol! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Just got my RS 2 months ago. only drive it on the weekends. I won't drive the car at night,
in the rain, nor to work where I can't keep an eye on it.
I love looking at the car almost as much as I do driving it.
Bought some cheap plastic mats to put over the regular floor mats. At least I can justify it by saying that the stock mats
are thin and cheap.
I have a new girlfriend. She's jealous of the car. She says I love the car more
than her... Can't tell her the truth!

Sunny

I was crazy like that too, now, I'm crazy in a different way. I DRIVE the car. Not hard, not easy, I just drive it the way it was ment to be drivin, and she treats me really well. My gf has occused me of caring about my car more than her, lol. She's a psycho about her car too. Took her forever to park the other day, she had just washed the car, and didn't want tree leaves, pollen, or bird crap on the car.

Pete, what you've listed sounds alot like them VW commercials. I bet you ran down a shopping cart just so it wouldn't hit your car http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

I love my car but I also know I can't prevent it from being damage. However, I do say I love you at least once a day to it and often kiss it...after I clean the surface that is. God I love my 98RS.

Well, each to his/her own I suppose...

I take my car into mud whenever I get the chance, I park it outside (no choice) but it is right by my bedroom window. Whenever it starts raining hard I go out and drive... although I haven't turned down sex to go driving yet like some of you guys.

It's a car. I would have no fun babying it. It is a subaru... subarus LOVE getting dirty. My car loves me after a good mud run or powerslide on wet pavement.

I *occasionally* let people smoke, but only with the windows down. I would say maybe 5 cigs are smoked in my car a year. My floor mat on the drivers side is all sorts of interesting colors from mud, water, clay, sand, etc. I am about to buy some rubber mats.

I eat in my car all the time, and drink in the car (not beer or anything.. talking soda here).

My wagon usually can only fit 2 people because I keep so many tools and/or JUNK in the back seats and cargo area. However it is usually secured down pretty well.

It's a car! I have fun in it!

you guys are all nuts!!! (just like me)... although with medication i am getting better!

i used to wash my car every weekend (now it is every other weekend).
i totally cleaned out my folks' garage so i can squeeze my beloved car in there.. but now they got a mercedes e-class and IT gets the garage all too itself!!!! stupid mercedes! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gif
i eat in my car and take beverages in there (after i spilled the first one, i thought 'what the hell!), i am careful when i park but i don't park far away, i haven't turned down sex to be with my car, but what can be better than sex in the car!?!?!? (the 4 door makes access to the back seat so much easier! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
i do as much of my own maintainance as possible, and if i do take it to the carwash i only use brushless/100% hand wash place that is about 5 miles from me (there is a regular place right across the street!)... no definently no smoking in the car!

Does anyone let their dog in their car?

why?
04-12-2001, 11:39 AM
Wow, some of you go way overboard. I think I've washed my SHO about 5 times in the year that I have had it. Never wax it, that is just a waste of time. I like it, but I would not pamper it, that is just crazy. Of course I eat in it if I have to, however I do need to clean it out soon, the trash is almost up to the seats again. Of course, if anyone even tryed to smoke in it I would kill them. As i said, I like the car, but it is only a car.

Yikes! I just hope that when I finally do get my RS, it will have been taken care of as religously as some of you guys. As for me I try to keep the interior free of large debris and wash the exterior about once a week when it is warm out. I want my car to look nice, but I cant fret to much over it,I'm saving that for the 2.5 he he

I bought my WRX wagon because it is the fastest dog hauler I could find. The back seat is always folded down, I would rather have dogs than people back there. I custom fit some carpet to the back with the seats down to protect the existing carpet and make it a little more comfortable for my dogs (Irish Wolfhounds). I also have a non slip mat that goes over the back bumper to keep the dogs from scratching it as they get in or out and it also makes it easier for them to climb in.

camping gear on the luggage rack, the dogs in the back, road trip here we come!!

I got a part-time job at a car wash on the weekends (on top of my full time job) so I can use the car washing goodies they have. I love my car.

About the parking in BFE to save from scratches, I used to park my car as far away as possible, until the dreaded day of doom when I was at work and told my alarm was going off by a co-worker. To my horror, someone had attempted to steel my precious car and BROKE MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW!! Glass was everywhere, and the worst part was not the window, but the scratches all over the door jam where they shut the door on the shattered window when the alarm went off. A$$HOLES!!!!!

I park smart, not far now

lol i'm pretty anal to right now. I wont let my little sister open the passenger door by herself cause I'm afraid she will scratch the door handle with her nail salon talons that she has :D
and food is not allowed in the car. And I think I almost blew the motor on our dust buster hand vac !
I'm sure the analness' will wear away as soon as I get my first ding. I actually removed the pinstriping on my car last night, you should have seen me, I was so scared I was going to scratch the paint. I looked like I was a member of the bomb squad trying to disarm a bomb.
hahaha
