Well, since this is the only place that people would really use this kinda tool, I felt it was the best place to ask.

This, which is rated to 1500, rated well on amazon.

vs, http://www.affordabletool.com/images/products/BAL-08-4000/images/01.jpg
which is rated for 4000 lbs. Its listed that its made from 3/8th steel.

What I like about the #1:
its well reviewed. The handle looks durable. Comes with 2 40" chain. Its exposed mechanisms make it easy to lube and what not, and stores relatively flat. #1 is rated at 1500 lbs. It is listed as being 18" wide, but does not say with or without handle. Its clevis attachments for the chains allow for weird angles, without undue stress.

#2
It has no reviews, but at least they give the materials measurement- 3/8th steel. Its box construction while theoretically superior, may not make as much difference as a single half in bar sideways. However, it does have a larger rolling area, and appears to be made of at least 4 roller surfaces which is bearing most of the weight. This is listed as being 23" wide with handel, and 20" without. The flat bar stock at the ends experience a lot more weight variance, and is subject to side loading, which may or may not bend the bar.

Comments? suggestions? Other choices?

Both are within a few bucks of each other.

2nd one looks beefier, that said I've never needed a load leveler on an EJ engine just a few motorcycle eyelet straps under the intake manifold.

I bought an engine hoist WITH leveler from Schucks about 3-4 years ago... $160 TOTAL!

Pulled MANY MANY motors....No issues.

Its never been getting it out that was the problem, it was the getting back in by yourself that was a pain in my balls.

Also wanted to use it to lift a axle out- they weigh about 500 each, figured this would aid things along.
