What will void the warranty on the new WRX? Will removing the silencer effect the warranty? Will exhaust? chip? intake? what else?

Kinda depends upon the service folks at the dealer. Some will continue to do warranty work on modded cars, some won't. It pays to make friends with the service writers.

Most will be cool with exhaust, intake, suspension mods.

Anything that may caused damages to your car. For example, if the ECU or engine fails because of SAFC, then the warranty is gone. If MAF sensor dies because of the intake, then the warranty is gone. The dealer must prove that aftermarket parts caused failures.

Nitrous, bigger turbo, and removing all three cats should do it! And they can only void the warrenty if they can prove that the failure was directly caused by the aftermarket part that was installed. So you could add a bigger turbo, and they can't say they won't replace a suspension part that fails. I have a little paper on my comp at home that covers this, including some legal settlements that could help you with that, if you want me to send it your way. And I did get the authors permission to share it. Just let me know if you want it, and where to send it http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

The SEMA site has an excellent write-up on what does and does not void warranties. Like p-car said, be friendly, but it also pays to know your legal rights.

My dealer told me modifying anything on the engine, replacing the muffler with anything other than the factory replacement, and lowering the suspension would all void the warranty.

I was told by my dealer, when I bought the car that addin the STi exhaust or the short shift kit by Sti, would void my warranty. They sell bot these items and yet it will void it.I think they look for any reason to get out of honoring it. I think it's Bull S****

Check the laws people, don't believe what the dealers are telling you. They cannot void your warranty unless they can prove that the modification you made was directly responsible for the failure. It's called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, here's a quote:
warranty coverage may not be conditioned upon the use of only the vehicle manufacturers parts unless the parts are provided free of charge. In other words, use of a non-carmaker product should not void your warranty unless it caused the problem.

Hi Guys
Just for your info (again) there are currently NO intake systems or air filters on the market that meet the Subaru filtration standards. I'll repeat that - NO INTAKE SYSTEMS OR FILTERS THAT MEET SUBARU STANDARDS. so if you fit a filter and your MAF goes down - tough... better get the cheque book out, cause they are completely within their rights to void the warranty.
Cheers

Best way around it is keep all of your stock parts. When you go in for warranty work that's related to the after market part, put the stock ones back on.

Illegal and unethical .. probably. Will you get away with it, most likely. I guess it's really a moral issue when doing it this way.
