Hello, I'm looking for a way to lessen the effect of power stearing. I have a friend that drained the fluid from his Jetta, and removed the pump, but i've heard that is very hard on the rack. After driving his car, i fell in love with the connected feeling it had, but i don't want to lose the tighter ratio by putting in a manual rack. I was wondering if using a more compressable fluid would help? For that matter are there any real down sides to simplly draining the original fluid? Anyway, thanks for the help.

Oh, by the way, i drive a NEON. Sorry if this is inapropriate.

You can't just drain the fluid. It will blow up the pump. The best bet is to do what your friend did; drain fluid and take the pump away.

Or, how about this? Is there a power steering belt? I mean, is the belt attached only to the power steering pump? For example, a 92 Mitsubishi Mirage has a belt which only drives the power steering pump. If so, get rid of the belt. That will give you an instant non-power steering vehicle.

And you shouldn't post the same stuff twice with 2 different titles. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

I'm sorry about the double post, but i didn't think the first one sent, and i couldn't find it when i went looking for it, but i guess it hadn't yet refreshed, so i made a new one.
