i know there is a wealth of information out there on this and i have done research but i just want a answer to a specific question. i have a 2004 wrx and need to swap in a sti shortblock. i am not going for high numbers but just reliability. i understand people have had problems with compression and stock pistons etc. Are those upgrades really necessary if you are just looking for a reliable daily driver at the moment that won't be driven at the track at all. thanks

no, just get the swap and reflash. You'll have a suitable DD setup.

i wouldn't say you need to upgrade everything. i would just get a .051" head gasket over the stock one to lower your compression a little since your worried about reliability. play it safe and safe tune. keep your 18g and you should have a 320whp daily.

Did you mean 220 WHP by chance? Wait, a 18g isn't the stock turbo, is it?

I wouldn't go with a hybrid if you are going for reliability
