Friday, June 5, 2009 (Oceanside, Calif.) – Competing in the Redline Time Attack Round Two at Willow Springs International Raceway on May 30th and 31st, Crawford Performance driver Tarzan Yamada placed second in the AWD Unlimited Class in his first competition at this track.

The sleek Crawford Performance Subaru driven by Yamada was outfitted with a new 2.65 liter engine, the same engine used in Ken Block's Gymkhana 2. The vehicle also boasted a more powerful turbo that delivers 585whp and 670 feet/pounds of torque, and a reduced-weight chassis, shedding 25 pounds to enhance performance. Yamada blazed around the track, shaving a full five seconds from last year's time.

Racing under pressure in uncomfortably hot temperatures reaching as high as 95 degrees, Yamada kept his cool to finish on Saturday with a 1:22.3, the fastest time for all classes. In the first Time Attack session on Sunday, Yamada ran a 1:24.8, which was merely a dress rehearsal for hitting his personal best time of 1:22.097 in the second Time Attack race that day.

Yamada overcame several challenges, including an over-steering problem resulting from too much power coming off the corners, but recovered to run a top speed of 152 mph at the end of the straightaway, a first for a Crawford Performance car.

Racing to success this entire season, Yamada continues to outshine and outsmart his time-attack competitors. He was crowned champion at the Redline Time Attack season opener at Buttonwillow Raceway in California, and set a track record at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix during the Super Lap Battle qualifier. No stranger to going fast and winning big, Yamada has been racing competitively since 1981 and is recognized for holding the Redline Time Attack Unlimited class track record at Buttonwillow for four consecutive years.
