Seth E. that's exactly it! People see 4.444 and are like OMG SHORT!!!!!! Only the WRX RA, WRX STi RA and WRX STi TypeR had shorter gears coupled with the 4.444. Regular WRX and STi ran the same tranny. The Wagon uses the older ratios with a 4.111. I don't know why they did that.....for Wagons. My JDM 6spd is 3.900FD. it must not be as short.... I LOVE MY JDM DCCD 6spd!!!!!! Ru fan 06-30-2009, 02:25 PM Wagon's have almost always gotten the short end of the stick. Look at the 93-96 JDM (Ver.1/2) WRX wagons. They all were rocking 220hp with a TD04. I don't care about the Final Drive so much as a nice, even spacing on the gears. Increase/decrease to get max use out of the power-band. The USDM cars, and so many of the JDM cars came with these crappy gears. See the STi ratio's above. It is quite clear that performance was secondary when they put that gearbox together. Seth E. 00boostedRS 07-01-2009, 02:55 AM with a jdm ver4 gear box can you use a USDM WRX clutch set or do you have to get an STI specific one? i_c_the_light 07-01-2009, 05:52 AM with a jdm ver4 gear box can you use a USDM WRX clutch set or do you have to get an STI specific one? Yup. STi isn't something super magical or special. 00boostedRS 07-01-2009, 07:15 PM ok so even a ver.4 sti tranny can use a USDM wrx clutch kit? i_c_the_light 07-01-2009, 07:31 PM ok so even a ver.4 sti tranny can use a USDM wrx clutch kit? Why shouldn't it? The clutch mechanism is the same for both. darksc00by 07-01-2009, 07:33 PM ok so even a ver.4 sti tranny can use a USDM wrx clutch kit? The bellhousing really had no difference between my V4 STi trans and my USDM WRX trans (02-05) I had a Exedy Hyper Single for a USDM WRX, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who can't drive an aggressive clutch. (I don't think it is aggressive, but that is me) i_c_the_light 07-01-2009, 08:17 PM The US spec WRX was initially a weaksauce V7. 00boostedRS 07-01-2009, 11:19 PM well thats good to know, I just wasnt sure if the USDM ej20 wrx clutches used the same diameter flywheels and clutches as the early jdm sti's. |
