Beautiful car except for the STi on the side. If they got rid of that it would be perfect IMO... :)

Oh my... does that car have a factory black front lip spoiler :)? That should make the people who keep telling me to paint my lip/sideskirts/spats go nuts :D.

What's the selling price? And is it just a STi with STi aftermarket parts or was something else done to it too? Got a name/code for this batch of cars?

rumors concerning the US STi release (2 STi models!!!):

<STi Update 1>
Mitsubishi and Subaru are playing alittle game with each other.
Mitsubishi knows Subaru will launch the Sti as soon as they launch the Evo VII. So they are waffling abit on release date now as well as being very vague on pricing. I saw the same article as all of you in Sports Compact Car. He says he heard Evo Vll will be in the middle to upper 30s. This is all comments from our regional trainer. He told me he feels the Sti is ready to go soon as Mitsubishi launches the Evo.

<STi Update 2>
Subaru will add two kind of model.
They will start sell early May.

a) WRX STI Limited.
Bace model: WRX STI
Engine : RA Spec C model's Engine (280PS/39.2kg.m)(But not VF34 Turbo)
Exteria : STI front spoiler, STI rear spoiler

b) S202 STI Version
Engine : Modify RA Spec C engine (320PS/39.2kg.m)
Exteria : STI rear spoiler
Brake : Brembo with light weight Slit rotor
Rim : RAYS ( Maybe STI parts )
Others : Piro-ball lateral link, Titanium maffler, Alloy pedal
400 cars only

I don't have any photo yet.
I will send to you it when I get.

****Note****
Impreza will change August. ( 2003MY) ( Maybe STI model will supply October or Norvember.) Everybady think Subaru & STI has a lot of stock of Impreza in Factory.
Also rear spoiler......
They need to try sell them before August..........
Then supply this model.

It's only Subaru
It's is only catalogue spec...I think...Maybe 270-300PS

of 2002? Because unless my calendar is smoking crack its April 29 and not a word has been spoken from SOA... so is it possible that this will all come out next month? Seems to me like 1 month to go from "We have no definite plans to bring the STi to America" to "Here are two versions of the STi which would you like" is a bit fast. Also how is the Evo suddenly ready also, I thought its supposed to not arrive until 2003? I mean did I lapse into a coma or miss an announcement?

Now we have Nick in OT posting about getting rid of his car because the STi is coming by August and is gonna have 280hp for one model and 320 for another... I'm so

I dunno, I'm just passing along what I recvd from a reasonably credible source. What I thought was important is that 2 models will be offered at 280ps and 320ps and I think the 227ps version we already have.

It sounds like it's going to be too expensive for my blood, I'm hearing 3-5k dealer fees on top of prices ranging from 30k to 40k depending on who you ask and talk about waiting lists. But, this just might be part of the hype that is typical.

edit: OHHH MY GAWD!!

What? You weren't talking about Japan?

I believe it , because when i was at the subaru dealership yesterday, the Manager of the whole subaru dealership had HINTED that they "may get an STi in May when the first shipment of 2003 wrx's hit the dealerships" he also stated that he'll be the first ones to get an STi + new WRX's because they are a new dealer for that year and Subaru will be treating them nicely.

I don't know it seems to me that they ARE bring the STi, with the revised lights i saw in my Japan trip, i mean WHY would in their right minds all the scooby dealerships - stop getting WRX shipments? thats wierd as fork.

This "information/rumor" I posted is suppose to be concerning the US Market WRX/STi. I think the picture is a prototype of the 320ps WRX to be "rumored" recently to be released in the US along with the already expected 270ps version. I was very suprised when I heard about the 320ps version. I still would like to see some details on the pricing of the 2 models but that's most likey going to be a last minute thing.

basically it is STi typeRA spec-C with all the STi parts included from factory.
The extra 40ps comes from intake/exhaust and special ECU. Engine is the same as typeRA and turbo is VF34.
The best thing is that it comes with facotry warranty.

http://www.poweraxel.com/autosalon/as2002/

...is the site with the photos and other stuff.

The 280ps limit is a "gentlemen's agreement" among the car companies and the government. Numerous cars have broken the limit, especially the Skyline GT-R, Impreza 22b, some Evo models, etc. etc. etc., despite having been officially labeled at 280ps. It's not the same thing as the Audi/BMW/Mercedes 155mph electronic speed limit.

Supposedly, several companies are ready to blow the lid off - Hondacura is readying a 380hp(?) NSX, the evil bumblebee that is the subject of this thread looks like Subaru's latest foray, and there are others in the wings (450hp Skyline?).

He's what I have heard from the rumor mill lately...

Both the Evo and STi have been ready for the US Market for over 6 months. They are just playing a game with us and each other about when each will be released. It could really be an "Any Day" Thing. The latest is that one of them is planning to announce the arrival the same day that the first shipments will be on the trucks to the dealership.

It would be like "Guess what, we've decided on a release date, and that day is TODAY!" Talk about a Marketing Extravaganza.

Now when that day is will be anyone's guess. It may not even be this year.

Please note that the 280 limit doesn't apply to tuners.

STI and Nisimo both count as tuners even though they are owned by the same companys that put out the models they tune.

And yes STi has broken the 280 mark before with the 201(watered down street version of the Electra).

go go go
05-01-2002, 10:52 AM
S201 has 300ps and S202 has 320ps but it's not breaking the 280ps gentleman's agreement because technically and legally, S201 and S202 are -modified car-. On the paper, S202 is a regular Subaru WRX STi sold to Subaru Technica International and STi modifies it to turn it into S202.
Same happened to NISMO 400R to get around the 280 limit.

Pics don't do colors justice. Some pics I saw of the current WRX yellow I liked. Then when I saw it in person I was very dissapointed. Looked like it sat out in the sun too long and faded.

The S202 is going on sale on June 3rd here in Japan for about 3.6 million yen for the base model. At the current yen rate ($1.00=127.00), that's about US$28346.00 before taxes.

As for the differences between the Type-C and the S202, out of boredom, I've translated each item listed on the STi website.

Sports ECU, air cooled oil cooler, silicon rubber intake duct, silicon rubber air duct hose, low back pressure titanium sports muffler (incl. STi logo), pillowball bush lateral links, pillowball bush trailing links, lightweight slitted and ventilated rotors, stainless mesh brake lines, bronze almite 17X7.5JJ aluminum wheels specially designed by Rays, Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires (225/45R17), foglight covers with STi stickers, halogen 4bulb headlights (projector low beams), S202 emblems, S202 sticker, leather (or maybe pleather) covered seats and door trim (seats have STI logos), S202 serial number plate, power windows, aluminum sports pedals, blue meter panel/display (centralized tach), off-delay timer for the driver's side power window switch, centralized door locks, manual a/c, S202 center panel

that should be about it...everything else is whatever comes on a type-c.

still no official announcements from Subaru on the face lift yet, either.

SOJ has designated this weekend "Impreza Day".(I dunno how two days can be considered one), so let's just call it "Impreza Weekend".

I've already received at least 16 advance orders with deposits on the STi version WRX for arrival anticipated end of 2nd qtr. or early 3rd qtr. 2003. But I've already sold 56 WRXs to date myself:) and am simply doing what my SOA DAM has told me to do with regard to the STi version.
