Learn from the BEST at Friday Night Laps!

We have enlisted several of Utah's fastest drivers to instruct during the Friday Night Laps event on the 14th. If you have never been out on track or you want to learn how to drive significantly faster, this is your perfect opportunity to get an experienced driver to show you the ropes in a safe and fun environment. Or have an instructor drive your car while you ride shotgun to see what your car is really capable of.

When: Friday, August 14th at 5:00pm
Where: Miller Motorsports Park
How Much: $125
How long: 4 sessions. 20 minutes each
How do I sign up: LapBattle.com (http://lapbattle.com)

This is hands down the least expensive way to get on track and learn the secrets of the fastest race lines and proper track behavior. Get the equivalent of a season's worth of Autocross seat time in one Friday night and at a fraction of the cost, don't miss this opportunity. This is a non competitive event, but will be fully timed. Transponders will be available to rent from the track for $25 for those wishing to quantify improvements in their lap times.

For more information please visit: LapBattle.com (http://lapbattle.com)

This is really cool, unfortunately I can't make it to this one but I hope they have more of these events in the future.

Will there be cones on the track? West track or east track?

No cones! These are continuous laps for 20 minutes straight, like the real race cars. And we will be on the West track this time.

Do you have to have the TORDE for this? I have a friend coming down from Boise to take his TORDE on sat but I told him he should come Friday for this.

Awesome biggie. I doubt I will be making it, since I am in Boston for work :sadbanana: hopefully I will make the next one.

4 sessions is a perfect amount for me and for that price it doesn't get any better than that.

General questions:

Will 3 20 min sessions tear your tires up?

Is it recommended afterwards that you change your oil?

Other preventative maintenance for tracking?

...very interested in doing it just not sure where to start.

Will 3 20 min sessions tear your tires up?You get 4 sessions, not 3.

Will 3 20 min sessions tear your tires up?Depends on what tires you are running and how hard you push the car. Snow tires don't hold up as well as race tires and going 7/10 isn't as hard on tires as going 10/10. Generally, you wont be giving up too much rubber on an open track day like this.

Is it recommended afterwards that you change your oil?Wouldn't hurt... But isn't necessary.

Other preventative maintenance for tracking?Check your brake pads before and after the event.

I will be there and running my nearly scrubbed out Toyo RA1's. These are the best events to learn how to run the track in a non-competitive, fun atmosphere. Seriously the only real upgrade you need is a decent set of brake bads. OEM pads are fine they just get hot.

Good job Todd 1.46 is really moving. So who was driving the other corvette, the lotus, the evo and the 2 miata's. I know wrxpappy was in one but I don't see you on the list.

I was being cheap and timing myself inside the car. I really need to buy a transponder. I could own one now for what I've spent on rentals. My three best laps in the Miata were during the last session:

1:45.72, 1:46.06, and 1:46.47

Here's some laps from 6/20/09 to back those up with a transponder on the West track.

http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1187580

I had a pretty bad vibration in the front end (probably another flat spotted tire) so I didn't feel comfortable pushing it as hard as I could, especially in the right handed corners.

Thanks Biggie and Matt!! A crazy night to say the least. It was so nice to have that 30 minute last session!!

^I loved it, you would catch up to me after a corner and so I would let off the gas so you could pass and you would just slowly pass me. Then when the corvettes would catch up to me and I came out of the corner they would fly past me like I was standing still but your times are still faster than theirs. I guess that's what happens when you don't need to slow down in the corners, Miata's are a freak of nature. You probably don't even need brakes, you can just drive the same speed the whole time. haha

I heard someone hit a wall! crazy! A couple years back Adam Munoa's little brother hit a wall coming off T2. The next year we all went full safety gear, cage and wheel to wheel racing.

1:45.72 that's pretty quick Gordon. Top five in small bore! It's time to step it up. You got my 90whp civic beat by .25 sec. You would be a top performer in our class!

It looked pretty bad, I would be surprised if it wasn't totaled. He hit the front right corner and the hood was pushed back a little. I think there may have been damage suspension and wheel on that side too. i didn't get a real close look.
