View Full Version : Wheel Cleaning
axleon2 08-13-2009, 11:02 AM So I worked on my car almost all day yesterday and this is the only thing that I couldn't get to come clean. I was going to try lime away or laquer thinner but haven't yet. Does anybody clean wheels or know anybody that cleans wheels?

aclver1 08-13-2009, 11:36 AM just poweder coat them rust color, you won't ever notice the brake dust again.

Mush04 08-13-2009, 12:31 PM I just cleaned my wheels that had a ton of that type of crap, and I used a degreaser called Greased Lightning. says it works on all kinds of things, but it cleaned mine up pretty damn good!

+1 on simple green
predent 08-13-2009, 04:01 PM Simple green or that meguires wheel cleaner that comes in the bright pink bottle. They both work pretty well.
axleon2 08-13-2009, 04:19 PM Yeah I tried a bunch of the simple wheel cleaners but none of them worked so I resorted back to my old detailing techniques and used lime away and it helped out a bit but it's still not coming off! :( I'll have to try that greased lightning stuff but I still think that it won't work...I may have to just buy two new wheels from somebody that's got some laying around. Anybody have any silver 06 STI wheels they want to sell?
axleon2 08-13-2009, 04:21 PM off topic but did you get rid of your blackberry??
No sir I started using the LG Voyager :(
Mush04 08-13-2009, 04:27 PM yeah before buying new wheels I would try the greased lightning stuff with a fairly abraisive sponge, or I used an old tooth brush, obviously nothing that may scratch them, but enough to get that crap off of there. Good luck with gettin it off though.
axleon2 08-13-2009, 04:31 PM Thanks Mushy mushy for some reason that reminds of the Mon chi-chi dolls
Mush04 08-13-2009, 04:56 PM :lol: Wow have you seen the old commercials for those?!
axleon2 08-13-2009, 05:37 PM Hell yeah I remember them from when I was a little guy! Those commercials are hilarious!

.... if all else fails..... and you have no other options...
EZ-off oven cleaner..... or Dawn power degreaser.
They can strip off clearcoat though if you let them sit too long.
Scoobyniteowl 08-13-2009, 06:31 PM I've used that Meguires (pink) wheel cleaner with a stiff nylon cleaning brush and it takes it right off. But you will want to take your wheels off, because you don't want that stuff getting on your Brembos.

r8r4life 08-14-2009, 10:26 AM Turtle wax wheel cleaner in an orange bottle.I get it at walmart. You can smell it eating the brake dust off when you use it.
I have powder coated rims and it hasn't screwed mine up and I have used it about twenty times so far.
wantsti 08-14-2009, 11:44 AM Hey I had the exact same problem with my bbs wheels. The only thing that works is prosoco 600 its a brick cleaner. It doesn't harm your wheels at all either. You can buy it at a whitecap store. Its about $30 a gallon. I've used it one more then 20 bbs wheels and its worked on everyone no problem.

I get that stuff on my brakes all the time... I clean them at the same time I clean the wheels and I have had no issues and wouldn't expect to have any from it anyway.
