hey all i'm going to be getting some extra s here in a bit if i can find some people to do a group buy with me, we can even have a tranny fluid change party if you all want. i will need about 1 of the 5 gallons that come in the drum, i'm thinking $50 a gallon sound good? just need a couple people to go in on it cause i don't have a house to store the stuff at. at least 2-3 other people need to get in on it for me to order the drum. thanks guys let me know.

ps, will probably do some sort of deposit so people don't back out if that's cool, i really can't have a 5 gallon drum of gear oil lying around.

i'm in provo, so anywhere in utah county is great, slc should be fine too, we could meet somewhere to exchange or i go to slc every now and then

so far those that are at all interested seem to be:

Split the cost 5 ways and I'm in.

How good of an oil is this?

a quick search will let you know that this oil is simply the shiz, the only reason more people don't use it is it comes in that 5 gallon drum, so that's why i'm splitting it up, i've got valvoline el cheapo stuff in and it's horrible.

still looking for more people to get in on it, need at least 3 takers, i can keep a gallon around for my next change but i don't need 5 years worth :D

also, i know subarugenuineparts has it but are there any other cheaper sources? cheaper for me=cheaper for everyone else.

I was going to post earlier. This is not the bull**** oil that comes in your Subaru from the factory, this is the real deal Subaru of Japan ****, it is specifically designed for the Subaru Manual transmission.

Most dealers don't stock this, or even know what it is.

Count me in on this.

Not to sound naive, but will this have any noticeable effects? For instance, tranny noise on 2nd gear when off throttle?

wrxkyle
10-12-2009, 03:31 PM
not sure about curing noise, but it will make your car shift buttery smooth, and make your syncros happy, and cure cancer. what pressure are your tires inflated to, that might be your problem(fronts should be a couple psi higher than the rears if i'm not mistaken.)

stupidfast, where could we source this from you for utah, shipping to 84606, pm me

tehhali

wrxkyle
10-14-2009, 01:44 PM
alright. It will be $40 per gallon (4 quarts), bring your own container to fill,

if someone near provo/orem has ramps or something to do the change and want to help do mine then $5 off( i don't have jacks :( but i do have basic tools, just can't get under there with the springs :D )

if you need it shipped you cover shipping,

if you paypal cover 3% paypal fees(mine might be 5% but don't worry about it, just cover the 3)
cash is fine for locals, no checks(no counterfit bills please ;) )

the first ones that said they were in for sure have first dibs, after that whoever gets the cash there first (paypalverified) when 2 people pay the deposit i'll get the drum. if you can't do paypal and you're local i'm sure we can work something out.

I'm definitely down for the fluid change party. I've never done it before but I found a couple how-to's for it. It seems mostly simple. We just need a lift or ramps. Anyone in the Orem/Provo/SLC area willing to hook a couple RMIC'ers up with either of the above?

yah it's way easy, if you have a sti or (i think) certain wrx's you'll need a (i think) t70 torx, my 02 just has the normal drain plug, i've done the fluid change at a sears autocenter(while they did the alighnment:D) but that was late and the manager wasn't there, but yah we jsut need a funnell to put the new stuff in and some ramps or jackstands/lift.

kihbolo
10-15-2009, 12:55 AM
I might be interested in doing this also since i only live an hour away. I also have a funnel and can get access to some stands that you drive onto if that's all right with people. let me know what you think. Also have some basic tools and experience changing transmission fluid.

wrxkyle
10-15-2009, 02:30 AM
k well i've pm'd the first to call dibs, no deposits yet(maybe one), who is serious about getting this done. i'm kinda hoping to get this done sooner than later.

ammo seems to be in. need 2 other takers, will do up to 4 people other than me(i need 4 quarts to do mine, but i can store enough for the next change too.) first to get us a place to do oil change party with ramps or jackstands for free gets $5 cashback! and 0% APR!!! for life!

driving a foot with no gear oil won't do much damage i assume, or do you have 4 ramps to drive up on?

kyrosnick
10-15-2009, 11:03 AM
Can I get 5 quarts since my 6speed requires 4.8qts?

Mush04
10-15-2009, 02:42 PM
when are you guys planning on having this changing party and when are you getting the drum?

I have a 2 car garage but only 2 jack stands but if its on the right day like a saturday I would like to get in on this.

wrxkyle
10-15-2009, 03:16 PM
yah sure you can get 5 quarts, no prob. i think i'm just going to break down and order as there seems to be enough interest. i need to know who is in and how much they need, i don't want to be short on oil for everyone that wants to do it, you can't exactly pick up an extra quart at discount auto if you know what i mean

people that(in my mind, correct me if i'm wrong) are in for sure,
ammo0000

people that might be in but i havn't heard from them since:
kryosnick
tehali
looks like inthenameofweez is out.

i think i might have a wheel bearing going out(thank you japanese, er, mexican auto repair in provo...) so i'm wary of going all the way to salt lake like i had thought wouldn't be a big deal earlier(and even more pissed that i can't do the miller motor park scooby day this saturday for the same reason, wouldn't want to lose a wheel on the track)

tehhali
10-15-2009, 04:35 PM
K, count me in still. I need 3.5 qts to fill mine.

ammo0000
10-15-2009, 06:21 PM
Yes, I am in for sure. I just need the date we are doing it and the location. I'll be paying cash when I get there, if that's not a problem.

Mush04
10-15-2009, 07:30 PM
dang that sucks man! I was hoping to get as many out there as we could but no worries its better to keep your car in one piece and wait for the next event!! there will be plenty to come for sure!!

but I am definately interested and would have cash when we did the changing party too! when do you guys think you will be doing it? and how long does it take to get the drum here?

wrxkyle
10-15-2009, 07:44 PM
that's what i don't know, i'm going to go ahead and buy it, should be here by next weekend i hope. other than that it's just coordinating, and getting it done before this rain becomes snow one night.... :sadbanana: then parking lot drifting :taco:

so far mush tehali and ammoooooo i think we could get a 4th in if they really want but if not i'll hang on to the extra for my next change in 20-25k miles, if anyone has smaller containers so i don't have to go scrounge around autozone for some to clean and store it in that would be cool, if not i'll find something.

we are most likely doing it next weekend. who has the ramps or jackstands and oil drain container/s if you need a torx to get your drainplug out i don't have one. come to think about it i might not have a socket big enough for the normal drain plug(19 mm is my biggest i think, at least out here at school) it'll be a good bdaypresent to myself and the subie to get this oil changed(big day on the 26th lol)

i don't know where we will do it, any one got a place? (we could all just drive down to autozone..... :D

ammo0000
10-15-2009, 08:19 PM
Haha, we would probably get kicked out before we finished the first car. If you guys were farther up north(or if you were willing to drive), I could get us all on base to use the auto hobby shop. I'm going to try and find that T70 Torx socket thing tomorrow. I guess I'll start with home depot, etc. When you say next weekend, do you mean in 2 days or the weekend after that?

wrxkyle
10-15-2009, 09:59 PM
weekend after, still have to buy the oil and they shipp, i assume a weeks wait.

A 6 speed needs 4.3 quarts so as long as I can get enough to do my car I'm in.

You know you can buy it from Fred Beans for $11 a quart at any time. Just FYI.

Mush04
10-16-2009, 12:02 PM
well crap I'm out of town that friday night sat and coming home sunday.....which day are you all thinking?

I still would like to at least get however many quarts I need for my car, I'm just not sure I can make the changing party:sadbanana: I really wanted to cause I don't know how this is done.

if we can do it either that thursday (the 22nd) night and at my house in south jordan(daybreak) or maybe that monday night the 26th? would that work at all? and I have 2 stands only and 2 car garage so we could do 2 at a time if someone else brought some stands or ramps.

My car is in Socal resting in a nice warm garage for the winter so I'm not worried about the timeline. Just looking for a good deal.

26th would not work for me. I have an exercise that I am participating that will have me working 12 hour shifts the 26-28th. What about the weekend after? Any weekends are good for me really. Also, if you look at the links I posted, the process itself is really easy. All you have to do is jack the car up. Pop the plug and drain the fluid. Put the plug back in and lower the car. Take off the intercooler. Pull the dipstick out and pour the fluid in through the dipstick hole using a funnel. It's as simple as an oil change, only you have to remove the intercooler. If you have a long thin funnel that bends, you won't even need to pull the IC off.

ammo0000
10-16-2009, 06:40 PM
I found and bought a T70 Torx thing today, so whoever is coming to the changing party and needs it doesn't need to go out and buy one now. You can use mine.

Mush04
10-16-2009, 07:34 PM
yeah I would be good for the weekend after that I believe, I am in CA this next coming weekend, unless that thursday works for some people, it sounds like each car wont take more that 20 30 mins at most! so I guess it depends on when we get the fluid in.

wrxkyle
10-20-2009, 01:54 AM
oil is on it's way, should be here in 2-6 buisness days, so it MIGHT be here this weekend. i'm hoping so.
everyone that is in for sure please pm me and say so. that way i know how many people are going in on the oil. just picked up a 240sx so i might see how that thing likes the suby-juice as well, actually it shifts really well, probably wont waste it then.

so, i may have stripped the aluminum threads on my ic when tightening the bpv bolts down(yah yah, forgot it was aluminum and was using the goot-n-tight german torque spec), it's on there good but i don't want to touch it, if someone has a flexi funnell great, otherwise i'll have to pick one up.

26th is no go for me, heaviest day of classes (till 5pm) and then, it's my birthday!! and thanks to utah culture i feel like an old man now, and i'm only turning 24:rolleyes:. gotta get out of this state lol.

south jordan sounds good if there is nowhere closer to provo. how about saturday morning-ish, around 10 or 11? make sure to drive around and get that tranny fluid warmed up or it will never drain in this weather.

Mush04
02-01-2010, 11:23 AM
my tranny fluid wasn't all that bad but after I put this stuff in I could still see a difference. I'd say it's worth it unless you want to get one of those cocktails that people put in. but overall I like the stuff.

I haven't tracked it with this stuff yet but I would think it would do pretty well.

06HAWKMAN
02-01-2010, 11:24 AM
How much? enough for diff also?

wrxkyle
02-02-2010, 11:12 AM
How much? enough for diff also?

might be enough for the diff, though i wouldn't waste this stuff on the diff, it's best used in the tranny.

i had the cheapo valvoline stuff in for a while before i got this, and it was an instant improvement, now i can shift into 1st without grinding or knocking gears and all shifts are much smoother.

ammo0000
02-02-2010, 12:24 PM
When I changed mine with this stuff, I didn't notice a difference, but I think it's because this is the same stuff they use from the factory. I think I've put +5K miles since the change. No problems on my end so far, though I don't expect any.
