I found a '01 RS for $14,999 OBO. Did a carfax search and found out it has a salvage/ rebuilt title. It's got 14k miles and 205/55/15 tires. The car 'looks' good but I don't know if I should go for it or not. Any advice?

I'd avoid that one... a non-wrecked RS in great condition should cost you about $15k... Once a car is wrecked it is never the same. Tell them you'll give them 10 for it.

You also can't get an extended warranty on it either.

Somebody is trying to rip you off. Salvaged title...that car isn't worth ****

a used RS is not even 15k, why pay 15k for a salvaged rs?
Check www.edmunds.com for price comparison.

If it has 15 inch tires, it doesn't have OEM wheels. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Run. That thing has been totalled, and now glued back together. Next time it crashes, it will be structurally unsound, and most likely collapse and seriously injure you. At least that's my opinion.

You can get a perfect condition RS for the same price, why risk your life?

Since we are on the subject does anybody know what an assembled title stands for? I found this on sale, the price is good but the assembled status gives me the creeps.

00 SUBARU IMPREZA RS, fully loaded, still smells new, 8500 miles, assembled title, never been wrecked, $13,700 OBO.

Anybody got an idea?

Here is the car:http://images.autotrader.com/images/2002/5/10/949/293/76399123.94929333.IM1.MAIN.565x421_A.565x280.jpg

I saw that car too. An assembled title in Ohio is the same as a rebuild title in Illinois.

Hey Seeing Stars I almost bought that red one but i did some checking and talked to the guy and he gave me some BS about how it was in a lot that had flood damage but it didnt get any and the adjuster just totaled every car in the lot...sounds flaky to me...and then i decided to do a carfax on it and the dick gave me a fake VIN. I called a guy I know down at a Subaru Dealer here and he said he wouldnt even consider buying that car.

Hondakilla,
Wow thats some news.... really builds my confidence regarding cars for sale online. Sounds like it was a good thing you carfaxed the VIN #. *shakes head in disbelief*

I ran into a '00 RS with a salvage title last year... Was selling for $11,500

So I would have to say that $15k is too much, especially when you can get RS's for that much in private sales without salvage titles (which I would never get, since you can NEVER trade the car in to a dealer and selling it would be virtually impossible)
