I just go my PRM intake. Sound like a Jet/Helicopter taking off. Totally stock sound under 3000 rpm, but if you really hit the gas it grunts extremely loud. I would't even want to thing how it would sound with an exhaust. For those of you who want to pick one up I highly suggest it. Defintly worth what I paid. Very noticable throttle response and sound.

FYI - Actually, I can sell you PRM Racing air filters (http://www.imprezars.com/product2.htm#prmfilter) ($139.95) and MAF adapters (http://www.imprezars.com/product2.htm#mafadapter) ($39.95) seperately, so you can make your own PRM intake; and I hope to have the rest of the parts measured and cut for a full intake soon.
I can also sell you the 3" polished aluminum tubing to attach to each end of the filter($58) with one 65 degree bend and one straight piece, and the 4 yellow silicone connectors and 8 hose clamps (approx $39.95) needed to make a full intake (that goes from the air-plenum at the back of the motor to the hole in the inner fender). But, for now you'd need to do the final measurements for cutting the aluminum yourself, until I get another MY98 and a MY99 in to play with. I couldn't get the other cheaper cold air filters listed at my site anymore, and had to start this project over from scratch, so I need to take measurements again.
All you'd need to do is cut the aluminum tubing with a fine tooth hacksaw so as to aim the filter toward the hole in the inner fender, and cut the straight pipe shorter to fit about 1-2" into the inner fender (past the yellow wiring harness), and you'd get to make a bracket to secure the MAF adapter to the chasis.
The prices above include shipping only if you buy everything together. Filter oiling kit (http://www.imprezars.com/products.htm#knoil) sold seperately, and you don't wanna over-oil a filter or you risk blowing the MAF, esp MY99. You can see the links above, or email larry@imprezars.com fo rmore info.
Take care,
