I don't know a whole lot about Subaru's, but are they safe cars?
Is my car a decently safe car? It's a 1995 Subaru Impreza L - 2.2L, AWD.
I'm not sure if it has ABS or not, I'm gonna check tomorrow and see if it has 4-wheel disk which means it would have ABS.
I hope this car isn't a death trap, otherwise I would have chosen the '96 Ford Taurus I could have gotten over it.
BTW: I'm only 16 with my learners permit, I get my liscence in September; but I do wanna be safe.
Any info would be great!
Thanks

First thing it's "license" ;)
They are reasonably safe. I have an old consumers report that shows the crash ratings as good to excellent. I think the offset crash is not super though.
Does yours have airbags? Also I don't know if they put door beams in that year or not.
The subies are generally tough little cars. There are many stories about bad crashs that people walked away or were able to drive away from. They are not as good as Mercedes or Volvo, but better than an escort or anything Korean.
16 year old in a taurus, I just can't picture it. Everyone would think you are borrowing your mom's car.

Well thats good to know. :)
The Taurus also had 100,000 miles on it, and the Subaru had only 28,000 :) And the Subaru has got to be more fun to drive, those Taurus's ride alot softer, but the handle like crap because of their weight, and size.

What's an offset crash test? When it gets hit from the side? I was wondering about crash test info for the GC8s too. The new age bodies got very high crash test ratings, but never heard about our generation.

Here's more on offset crash :)

Here's a (very) generic info on 1998-2000 models:

I'm not sure how much different the pre-1998 models are compared to those that make up for this data.
