Great job!
What did you do different from your pervious run of 12.4 e.t?

Your trap speed is awesome and 11's is within reach.

at 105mph for his non nos time, he should be in the 12s
I suspect the 18inch wheels are making it hard for him to launch optimally

103mph trap speed is 12.9 territory.
Maybe a set of drag radials on the 16" stocker will cut your 60ft to high 1.7's.;) :)

Doesn't this make you the record holder here on I-Club? Good job and hope 11's are on the way. It's pretty impressive you're running on the stock computer and fuel system.

Saw you guys on I-94 going northbound. A black WRX wagon and then saw the yellow car heading north. :) Had to do a double take to make sure it was a WRX after all. Was on my way to the Memorial Day BBQ the Chicago-area guys were having. Let me know when you guys are coming out next and maybe I'll go out to GLD, I'm only about a 1/2 mile from there. And yeah if you had a set of 16" wheels on there you'd probably already be in the 11s. Do you have another set of wheels you swap onto the car at the track?

wickedwrxwagon
05-27-2002, 11:33 PM
My previous time of 12.4 was at a lower boost level. Also, on the 12.4 run it was the first run on a new set-up. All I did differently today was drive the car better and learn where the best shift point was.

So basically a bit more boost and better driving is what got me there.

I really think I maxed out with my current set-up (On the NOS)

I am gonna try a VF30 with 17" wheels and drag radials this week.

I think these changes will get me deep in the 11's

I ran 12.2/12.3 almost 10 runs in a row today. I really don't think my wagon has much more than that......especially with the stock clutch and computer.

Gregg

PS Anyone interseted in a vf23 with less than a thousand miles on it???? if so email me .... gf147107@aol.com

Yeah I do think it's the CURRENT record but I'm sure that'll only last a week or so........My goal is to be the first in the 11's!!!

We'll just have to wait and see!!!!!!!!!!!

I do hit boost cut.....however, what I did was keep lowering the boost level on the AVC-r until the boost cut comes in right after I go through the lights at the end of the track.

Here is how I have it set as of today:

AVC-r boost=.95 bar
duty= 58

With this set-up it makes a max boost of 1.38 with the NOS.
The cooling effect of the NOS brings the boost way up.

This set-up allows me to hit fuel cut about ten feet after I go through the lights at the end of the 1320

If I have the AVC-r set any higher than I hit fuel cut before the end of the track.

With the above settings I JUST finish before boost cut and the CEL comes on.

I ran this all on PUMP gas with one bottle of street formula (Blue)
nos octane booster...

Has anyone had any experience with emliminating the fuel cut while still using the stock ecu?? Say via an HKS FCD??

I would really appreciate it if anyone could e mail me info on which FCD to use and the wiring if they have done it!!

Thanx In advance!!

Thanx Nathan.......did you see my question about the FCD??

Gregg

nmyeti
05-28-2002, 04:14 AM
yep. You need to clamp the map voltage down quite a bit with the FCD. I've personally not had to use an FCD, because my unichip harness takes care of the that for me, but i know Chad from Evolution racing uses an FCD with some good results.

One of the things you may want to try is to clamp the map sensor voltage to back to stock boost levels. This might get you a bit better timing, although it looks like your making a bunch of power.

Your going to need to get some injectors in the car soon. The fastest i've seen anyone run on the stockers was around 107mph on race gas. Then again, you could always up your fuel jet with the n2o...

Do you mind telling me what jets your are running for your setup? I am wanting to get some n2o on my car asap, and i would like to get an idea of where to start.

Awesome numbers! This is not a criticism of you or nitrous, just an observation. With a wet kit you are not really running 12.2s on the stock fuel system since you have additional fueling for the nitrous. There is no way you'd get into the low 12s with no additional fuel at all (ie a dry setup). I think nitrous is going to get a lot of cars in the low 12s this year as more of the ex-DSM guys get into WRX tuning. Nitrous is your freind.

Yes the yellow wagon is the same car as the blue/white...That was done by my friend at a graphics shop right when I got the car!

congrats. Go to the track this week and bust 11's so we can all get over the anticipation. a 60 shot should do it. I'm kinda surprised you didn't do it now with 19psi. I'm thinking it may be the launch (considering you ran 13's without it).

wickedwrxwagon
05-28-2002, 10:16 PM
Eddie you are funny you know that....

Scooby.....it's the wet system for the RX-7/WRX from NOS

The only change I made to the kit is I interchanged the nozzle with a "Soft Plume" nozzle from NOS. This is the best investment one can make with this kit. The kit number I believe is 5134. I work at an import shop in chicago (www.driversimage.com) for more info.

If you need a kit shipped to your door let me know!!

Andy,

It's the trap speed that's flooring me the most. Who'd want to go up against this a car like this trapping at 114mph? And you know the WRX doesn't have the best aerodynamics in the world. That's a lot of power/torque.

Very impressive run!!!;)

I knew there was a WRX wagon out there that could whoop some a$$ (sub 13s) in the 1/4.
:D

Sounds like it's time for an ACT clutch and a lightened flywheel, you'll see sub 12's for sure.

Keep the V8 boys sucking fumes and dust!!!

Thanx outback.....

I'm actually gonna try a prototype clutch and flywheel for one of the major U.S. players in the clutch industry.

I should have it in a week or so. With that, a bit more NOS, and a bit more boost....Im sure the car will see mid 11's!!

this may sound like a stupid question, but since i've never used n2o myself i was wondering how you use it, like what gears and when do you push the button or do you hold it through each gear and let off between shifts?????

You could get more if you switched to AV gas and leaned it out a bit..

Octane booster is bs.

It blows my mind to think that with a set up like
yours, I could get to grocery store, about 2 miles away with a stop light every mile or so, in half a minute. Of course i coast to each stop light from the previous one..

man crazy power...again way to go!

WOOHOOO!!!! Awesome man....great stuff. At this point wouldn't injectors alone make for large gains? That's gotta be the weakest link

And as far as wheels...I'd go with the stock wheels/tires vs. the 17's w/drag slicks. with that much power and no wheel spin you'll probably destroy your clutch in one run :( The only thing that will slip will be the clutch and it'll just fry. You could get lucky but I wouldn't chance it. The stock wheels/tires with lowered pressure should get you to a couple tenths off.

hehe, at the strip, one time we saw an 80's minivan beat a viper, running a 11 second quarter mile...coolest thing you could ever see...but you must surprise a lot of ricers these days with your wagon though....sounds like lots of fun to me

An old school drag racer told me not too long ago that a tenth of a mile difference in reaction time at the tree equates to two tenths of a second in the quarter.

Does anyone know if that's accurate?

Because if it is, with a reaction time of about .500 the wagon may have been able to crack 11.99?

Mario actually reaction time has nothing to do with your actual 1/4 mile time, it only matters when your racing for points(pro drag). you could sit at the lights for 20 minutes and still run 11's. The clock doesn't start untill your out of the box.

Few questions on teh nitrous setup, what plugs are you using i.e. how cold are you running, what brand and, I know they cant be the factory plugs(platinum) those would be burned right up. I ran Nitrous on my car for awhile and it ate up my plugs. My current setup is vf 30, sti injectors, walbro FP, Unichip w/ Fuel Cut removal, and dastek boost module running 17 PSI. and NGK colder copper plugs. I would like to be able to run nitrous on my current setup just a litle afraid of it.

SalinasCaWRX-

I was at Sac. Raceway and saw your run. I thought when I first saw it.... nice WRX!

When I saw it make that high 12 second pass my eyes opened up and was pretty stoked for you. Looking at your mods to the car and running 12's with a stock turbo is killer.

Whenever you squirt NOS you should have the best fuel in the tank possible. 100 octane at the minimum. ERC 116 if you don't have a catalytic convertor and don't mind replacing O2 sensors every time you race. (this is what I do) I would also add a Walbro 255lph (340 model) fuel pump with your mods. You can never have too much fuel with turbo cars to be safe.

If you are interested in purchasing a great alchy injection kit for your car let me know. There is a Group Purchase going on for the SMC kit which will be $301 shipped. It will allow you to run high boost all the time. Some of the Buick GN guys run 24psi with 92/alchy injection and have gone 10.90's like this!

Here is my car.... it ran like crap that night and still trying to figure out why. My goal is 11.20@120mph with the stock GN turbo next time out. Buick GN 3.8i turbo/intercooled V6 in a 2700lb Mazda RX-7 ssssssssleeper.
