View Full Version : Coming to Vancouver.....
babyjo 05-31-2002, 04:01 AM Hi,
I am going to Vancouver for a conference and meeting and have an extra day to sight see and whatnot before my flight back to Calgary. Now, I need some advice as to what me and a co-worker should see and do. I have been to Vancouver a few times but I don't get to see the city much. So, to make this short and sweet, what should I do (if I can only do 1 thing)?
Thanks for any advice, input, hints, etc :)
Jo

Team FRD 05-31-2002, 04:32 AM Eat tons of Chinese & Japanese food for sure(way better than those compare with what Calgary used to have few years ago). Check out the the Import Showoff at BC Place if u're here on June8. Don't miss it. :)
Necromancer 05-31-2002, 01:23 PM When are you coming? I'm sure we can get together a mini-meet for ya. ;)
What do you like to do? Food, outdoorsy stuff, sightseeing, nightlife? Help us narrow down the choices for ya because there's lots to do in this beautiful town!
urbanwhitetrash 05-31-2002, 01:27 PM hey Jo,
what are you into... what are looking to do? Without those we can't really suggest anything. If its this sunday, rent a miata and come out the autoX on sunday ;) you wouldn't be the first to do that either.
Here, check it out.

babyjo 05-31-2002, 08:56 PM Saturday June 22 will be my free day in Vancouver. And our flight back is Sunday night (I think, I still have to wait for the flight info).
Thanks for the info. I'll have to take a better look at the links.
oh, and can anyone suggest a good outlet mall for shopping? Thanks.

Outlet mall? What's that?!?
Sorry. No real "outlet mall" here in Vancouver. However, if you want to do chic shopping, may I suggest Robson St. You'll be paying full retail (and then some), but it's THE place to shop for the latest wares in Vancouver.
If mall shopping is more your trip, then there's Metrotown (in Burnaby)- basically three malls in one - Metrotown Centre, Eaton Centre, and the mall next to the Bay. There's also Pacific Centre mall - downtown - very close to Robson st.
There are also lotz of "Asian" malls like the Crystal (next to Metrotown), or Aberdeen and Parker Place (in Richmond).

I think most of the stuff in our malls would be the same as in Calcary. Since we pay 7.5% PST, it would be a good idea just to buy stuff in Alberta. The only outlet place I can suggest or being to is Roots at Boundry and Grandville (spell??).
GS116 06-01-2002, 07:14 AM Somehow, I'll consider Winners as a outlet mall, only if you have time to search around, you can get some cheap stuff with brand names.
BUT, I'll prefer shopping in Calgary, at least save the 7.5% PST

The roots outlet is on the north east corner of Granville Hwy and Boundary road - right inside Vancouver.

Oh yeah as I heard u can't find much good stuff in WA's outlets. U can probably find some in Portland's though. But maybe a lil too far I guess.
Anyway yeah I am agree, just come to Metrotown & Metropolis. Sometimes u will find some pretty good deal.
