View Full Version : See, the Mustang guys know!
petrol 06-15-2002, 02:41 PM Even the mustang guys admit we're L33T. :D
http://www.dfwstangs.net/vb222/showthread.php?s=&postid=497591#post497591
Of course..this is considered their closet...so I wouldnt go throwing it back in their faces. :D
and no, Im not a troll, I used to be *sniff sniff* a Mustang guy.
WRXJeep4.0Man 06-16-2002, 01:11 AM ...just one of em has turned to the good side :)
where the rest at?? oh yeah...still driving a car that 1 out of 10 car owners have, sort of like me and half my town have jeeps...i hate that....i want a subaru, or accura...no one around here has those
HoratioCaine 06-16-2002, 02:22 AM WRX would be a cool choice but I wouldn't plan on keeping it. I was contemplating them but then a buddy asked me " how many of them do you see on the road(old ones... like the brat )
Ahem. How many were made and sold in the US? How many old Mustangs were made? There will probably be a difference there as well. ;)
eric m. 06-16-2002, 03:59 AM yeah, that's just a stupid thing to say. there are tons of old legacys and other older subarus still on the road. in fact, the dealers even advertise something like 9 out of 10 subarus from the last 10 years are still on the road. this is no so with fords. but i guess they have the right to say whatever they want.
funniest thing i read in there...
hehe, yeah maybe. But "ugly as sin" is a relative term. Every car is ugly to 'someone'... It has its own asthetic appeal, the interior is sure a hell of a lot phatter than a Mustang...thats for sure. Less hard plastic trees die in the making of a WRX interior than a Mustang
petrol 06-16-2002, 02:28 PM you liked that one huh? :D I just had to throw that in there.
grubaru 06-17-2002, 12:16 AM "I hate to go against everyone else, but I say a 2002 GT. I own one myself and love it, I do not really like the WRX and the only one thats really supposed to be fast is the top of the line one which is probably more than a GT. "

That was brilliant! The "top of the line one." He must be thinking about that ultra rare Type-R one.
Street2.5RS 06-17-2002, 12:22 AM hhaha acutally gubaru, i'm pretty sure he means the STI version :D

Not many people out side of ICLUB know what an STI is ;).

petrol 06-17-2002, 03:05 AM I still have to pat myself on the back for converting yet another Mustang guy over to Subaru ownership. :D I get in there all the time and do a search for WRX. But you're right, most of them dont know what the heck STi is, or stands for... But, if you read the whole thread...a "die-hard" Ford guy is trying to tell "ME" about the STi, and that he 'confirmed' its coming to the USA
Rattler 06-17-2002, 07:25 AM There is a guy here that used to have a Stang and bought a Rex. I haven't talked to him yet. My buddy knows him. Said its his first import. He does love the WRX though from what Joe said.
grubaru 06-17-2002, 09:21 AM Originally posted by Blindeye_03

That was my point. I don't know anybody except subie owners who know what an STI or 22b are.:D
Street2.5RS 06-17-2002, 03:18 PM hehhe, well i guess most of my friends are kinda car nuts like me. Actually it's kinda suprising, as the wrx has gained popularity, my car is more and more recognized!
krave 06-17-2002, 04:13 PM After reading about so many other imports, I have to say that the WRX is one of the best...and especially for the price. I was a mustang owner myself previous to this car, and I'll never go back!
petrol 06-17-2002, 04:25 PM Me too...me too... I had 2 Mustangs a 96 and an 89...both GT's with lots of mods.
REXSTANG 06-19-2002, 02:16 AM I concur,
I still own my 89 Stang and even though it ran 12.95 I still get up in the morning and drive my WRX around with a phat a$$ smile. The WRX is just technologically superior in many many ways. I switched from the dark side the moment the WRX was available. my vin says its # 3025. Heheheheheheheh
Rattler 06-19-2002, 02:32 AM I know what you mean about the tech thing. I went on a cruise with my dad. He has an 85 Vette. We were parked next to each other and he asked how many ponies the Rex had. I stated the 227. He then pointed out that he was at 225 from an engine almost 3x the size. There is 17 yrs. tech for you. :D Still like Vettes though.
westy66 06-19-2002, 07:59 AM "Less hard plastic trees die in the making of a WRX interior than a Mustang"
 NICE!!
Only from a mustang crowd would you hear this.
Bob
jmott 06-19-2002, 09:04 AM I would be torn between the GT and the WRX
of course, I have a WRX now cause I had already had a GT and wanted something different =)

top of the line one? There isnt such a designation. A WRX is a WRX. There is a sedan and a wagon, thats it.
I think the Mustang guy was refering to the WRX being the top of the line Impreza. A WRX is a Impreza with the EJ20 engine.(just in case you didn't know)
;)

Uhm, ouch? I figured he didnt know that they made Impreza's anymore..and that there was only the Outback, Forester, and the WRX in the Subaru Line... (there IS an Impreza 2.5RS still, in case you didnt know ;) )
 Mustang guys dont know squat..otherwise they wouldnt drive Mustangs. :p j/k
Rattler 06-19-2002, 09:44 PM :lol::lol::lol::lol:
I usta be a Camaro guy, but I am not the only Subaru guy that has one.
Rattler 06-19-2002, 09:52 PM Its Richard Burns by the way.
jcme262 06-23-2002, 11:08 PM Not ugly...just different. Its definitely not one of those 1,000,000 unit distributed cookie-cutter cars you love so much. You go ahead and stick to your Mustang, so you have 5 or 6 other Mustang buddies to wave to at each stoplight... Also, I personally got sick of Ford sticking the HP level up our (Mustang Owners) asses...I mean, come on...you dont have to slap a supercharger on a V8 to get 390hp...(or whatever the '03 Cobra puts out) Which they finally got around to giving "us" real horsepower, NOW that the F-body program is dead... It would have been kinda cool 14 years ago when Chevy ''started'' whooping the hell out of Mustangs out of the box.
I would rather have true technology over "consumer" limited allowance anyday. But, to each their own.
Beautiful... couldn't of said it any better;)
petrol 06-23-2002, 11:12 PM My Pleasure. ;)
PAIDBYFORD 06-24-2002, 01:45 AM Well guys for what it's worth. I happen to be a service manager at a rather large ford dealership in fort lauderdale. I am able to buy any for products at a subsidized price which is a considerable savings from sticker. Its called "d" plan. and there is a beautiful brand new blue wrx in my driveway. not exactly the best career move but hey, when ford decides to build a car as nice as the wrx then i will buy one. just one more thing this is the first non ford product i have ever purchased. just my 2 cents worth
c ya
petrol 06-24-2002, 01:53 AM Hey, thats cool man! Thanks for the post! :D
titsataki 06-25-2002, 02:05 PM lol my brother in law used to work for one of the GM plants in Indiana (years ago...). Since his uncle owned a Ford dealership the family tradition was ford all the way... so he owned a Mustang GT with T-tops (bright red). So he won some team award and the prize was that he can park in the executive covered garage. Well guess what he was the only not GM vehicle and a very sore one. They kicked his car out in less than a day.
Nowdays he preaches V8 and nothing but V8. At least his Lexus GS400 does have one of those :-)
Cheers
Nick
Rattler 06-25-2002, 02:31 PM Along the lines of the local UAW lot with its "No Import Cars" sign. And to see all those full-size "80% Made-In-Canada" Chevy trucks there all the time. . . .
Oh gosh. Sorry I don't even want to start on that.
Dori Dori 06-26-2002, 07:50 AM Hey Petrol!:
I got the guys down to 24k with the OEM 17 in magnesium wheels, and Cobb tuning exhaust.. Oh and the wing.... The top of the line WRX is the STi, it's not out yet, it will be out in late '03, and will have a 2.0 300 HP turbo engine, with more aggressive suspension, be way lighter in weight, and will cost a hell of alot more........ By the way, the WRX has 227 HP now, and is QUICk.... ( AWD )Imagine the STi?
You might want to correct this guy so he doesn't feel bad about his purchase.
1. Not 300, if we're lucky 280hp, but prob 267hp (like UK model)
2. The STi is not lighter. It's about 180lbs heavier! The RA is about the same as the WRX and the Spec C (or S202) is lighter than the WRX...but we'll never, and I mean NEVER, get those!
Rattler 07-03-2002, 11:59 AM In case any of you Scooby owners want to join the Ford side, here is one to buy.

Thats terrible. He is always saying crap about homosexuals and he drives a PURPLE V6 Rustang? :monkey:
Dori Dori 07-04-2002, 04:04 PM Oh god...I bet he bought it for his X or something...I really don't see him driving that.
Kevin Thomas 07-05-2002, 01:19 PM Do the Mustang owners know that if a stock Subaru 2.5RS (with it's 165hp) was a Mustang 5.0, it would have 330hp?
Just a thought! :p

Probably even more than that.
Or how about two EZ30s put together? A 440+ hp 6,000cc H12!
Jon Cox 07-08-2002, 01:47 PM i had an 89 (14.02 1/4)...it was rolled over by a runaway van...then i had a 93 (13.80 1/4)...it was sold to my old college roommate when i bought the wrx...i still have a 65 mustang that has been sitting for a few yrs...i liked driving my mustangs...the wrx is definitely a nicer car, but it does cost more and it actually gets worse mileage, at least the way i drive...ive only been getting 20mpg...thats with city/hw mixed...my mustangs go 25-26 mpg on the hw...i guess they dont wind up as much though being a v8 and all...
anyway, ive converted, but i dont look down on mustangs...for the price back when i got mine you couldnt beat it it, plus it could get into the 13s with only $800...not too bad...one thing though, mustangs handle for crap
Scoobs 07-10-2002, 06:20 PM i went from mustang to wrx:D
i have had countless fox bodys truely i cant remember how many I have had....many stock and many not:devil:
my fastest fox body would do 10.30's 1/4 mile supercharged with the juice..hell of a feeling... i also had a 99GT and it just sucked ass...I also had many classic muscle cars.. my favoret was my RS/SS Camaro:D
the wrx wins hands down best bang for the buck.. and now that I have modded it I am spanking mustang and camaros gt's z28's and ss's
dam its fun:D this is not my first suby though I had a 2.5rs for a family car a few years back... dam i wish I still had it.
CBoldman 07-11-2002, 12:20 AM I love to the wrx get respect from other enthusiasts.
Rattler 07-11-2002, 01:48 AM I know what you mean. The day after I put my 22b on I got 2 thumbs up from Corvette guys! I have always been into cars of all flavors for the most part and give my props to them too. Always will too.
nunemaker7 07-14-2002, 11:16 AM Amen Paid,
I've had fords for the past few years, the 1st a '92 coupe I bought in grad school. I always liked the body style and it was the most bang for the buck I could swing at the time.
I like performance cars, whether it's an integra Type R, or an '03 cobra, it's all good. I have a fully biult 97 cobra vert with over 500 hp at the crank...
That said, when I went looking for a new daily driver i looked at s4's, and m3's, and even a z06. I had my eye on the wrx ever since I read about the 280 hp sti's that we of course could not get, I chalked it up as a never to have, like the EVOII. So when I checked one out after selling my TT Rx7 I was hooked. I don't think you can compare the car to anything for the $$$. And even then this car is more fun, my opinion of course.
Don't assume us ford fans don't respect imports though, I follow the EVO's, Skyline's, and the euro spec Type-R's...and I think it's BS that we are treated like a red headed step child, just like the old school M series BMW's that were watered down in the states.
Sorry to ramble, but the bottom line for me is that a true car nut appreciates a perfomance car, whether it be domestic or foreign...andthe only thing between any guy and his car and going super fast is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$:D
Rattler 07-22-2002, 06:28 PM I stopped over to a friend's house today. He has a nice teal w/white top convertible 98 Stang. Its a sharp looking car. He said he was disappointed he only got a 15.4 out of it. Then he said he found out it has a 2.73 R&P in it. I told him that he can't bitch about the mileage. Jeff isn't a big import fan but he said he respects the performance ones. My car was parked at the foot of his driveway because he was trimming bushes right next to the drive. When we were standing out in front talking he stopped me and said, "People wouldn't look aty my car as much as they have if I set mine on fire in the driveway! Everyone looks at that blue thing!" I told him thats what an import will do in a domestic-market town.
TopGun 07-23-2002, 01:34 AM Right now I'm trying to work out finances to get a WRX...I currently have a Bullitt Mustang. I test drove the WRX today and I loved it. I'm a big rally fan, and would like to enter some rally events down the road... The Bullitt is a rare (to those who know what they are) car, I have only seen 2 others in the year that I've owned her. It is fun as well, I run 13.9's at just over 100, stock. But 'real' racing isn't in a damn straight line!!! I'm tired of the 15+/- (the way I drive) mpg and the extremely cheap quality of Ford. I've been blessed to only have one problem so far in 12,000 miles - a replaced throw-out bearing. I do love the torque a V8 provides, as well as the throaty exhaust note that accompanies american muscle. But the quality stinks, the insurance stinks (I'm 20), and I'm getting tired of 2 doors and minimal back seats. Although I'll probably regret getting rid of the Bullitt because it's so rare (only 5600 units produced worldwide), it's still a mustang, and it's still a Ford. I can probably get around 20,000 for a trade-in, not much more for a private buyer. I was hooked when I drove the WRX today. Salesman took me out to some rural roads and told me to get on it. That I did. The shifter will be the first thing to be replaced...it's pretty sloppy, compared to the steeda tri-ax on my Bullitt. How good is the Subaru short throw shifter?? I'm assuming the aftermarket is better. What were your first mods; good ones for the money?? I'm somewhat new to the WRX community, but I've been following rally events for sometime, so I'm not completely in the soup. Sorry for the length...this is a damn essay!!
Rattler 07-23-2002, 01:44 AM Your best bet is to just start searching the forums. I have an ILP short-throw and it works great. You may find yourself getting carried away with the WRX. I never would have thought I would have done all the mods I have a year ago when I first got it.
Another thing is to make sure you have a mod-friendly dealer. That can make a difference.
Redline 07-30-2002, 12:24 PM I've owned four mustangs - 89 GT Conv., 93 LX (Saleen Kit), 94 Cobra with a vortech and a 93 Coupe 5.0 highly modified (all modified). I don't miss mustangs since I bought my WRX. Sure the mustangs had brute power, but the WRX has way more to offer.
"Camaro's for breakfast, Mustangs for Lunch, hopefully soon vettes for dinner". So I rewrote it a little !
:D
fordohio 10-23-2002, 10:31 AM we tried florida....dreamed of living there for over 10 years...finally up and relocated....found it impossible to make a living...master tech...so thought had a chance...pay...not bad...after taking out for family benefits...couldn't make it...were told is like that in entire state...had to return to ohio before backpeddaling put us in poor house for good....didn't get good chance to see if true that is like that in florida period...is it true?...getting more than 40 hours even in slow period now...have guarantee 40 but virtually never collect it bacause opportunity for more is there...even when slow...and with union...far as benefits...working within daily schedule and obtaining more than 40...is it really impossible in florida?...still missing it!
AudiTTkiller 10-19-2004, 04:56 PM im 19 and just bought my 2004 wrx. my mom wanted me to get a mustang gt convertible, but i said that i don't have a mullet therefore that option was an impossibilty.
Ps the best part about driving a wrx is burning old men in 350z and audi TT
( like my dad) And you do this in any weather condition. stock.

The 96-98 Mustang GT's are so horribly slow... :D
"People wouldn't look aty my car as much as they have if I set mine on fire in the driveway! Everyone looks at that blue thing!" I told him thats what an import will do in a domestic-market town.
That's odd. It seems that the cars that get the most attention in our lots are a guy with a black 99+ Mustang GT convertible with an exhaust, imitation Saleen wheels, a Saleen front bumper, and Saleen stickers, and a 99+ red-orange Mustang GT hardtop with a bunch of stickers and big wheels.
Ft_Laud_wrx 10-20-2004, 10:35 PM This is the second thread i have read tonight that makes audittkiller look like an a**hat
beecha91 10-21-2004, 01:09 PM I used to have a mint 94GT that I bought used in 98' with 50k miles. I did everything you can imagine to that stang... Blower, heads, cam, beefer trans, rear end, etc etc made 454 rwhp. I rarely drove it tho that was my problem. It never saw rain, for sure snow since it sat all winter. When I traded it with this guy for a mint MINT 86' GrandNational, it had 60k miles on her. 10k miles in like 6 years?? Come on. I had a 02 SVT Focus as my daily driver before I had the wrx. Soon traded it in for my WRX a year later cuz I saw all the wrxs running mid 13's with just a tbe and a bc , and said I had to have one for my daily driver. I love how I can drive my wrx any day, and have fun doing it in any situation or weather year round, and put 80% of the mustangs and camaros out there in their place doing it  Hopefully with a 18g or 20g and Ra gears, my times will improve hehe. Sure it doesnt run mid 11's like my stang did, but it puts a smile on my face every morning when I start her up. :disco: Owning nothing but Fords and a few Mustangs, this is my first import and I've never regretted any moment!
my .02's!
Don
