View Full Version : 0-60 time for carefully driven WRX?

I don't know where else to go, so I'll ask here: Without beating on the car (clutch drop or high-rpm slip), what can someone achieve 0-60 in a stock WRX 5 speed? Is this gonna be somewhere in the 6-6.5 second range? Anybody checked? I don't have the equipment to do it accurately.

hasnt just about every car magazine said they tested a stock wrx 0-60 in about 5.9? that is also the speed SOA quotes.

With out beating on the car, low 6 second 0-60 times are not difficult.

but remember, these guys dont give a <bleep> what happens to the cars.

and SOA couldnt care less either, as long as the mags say under 6 secs...

i do remember one article saying they did a pro-solo II launch to get constant 5.7 sec times...

I think it was "car and driver" that said if you are willing to "drive it like you stole it" they got 5.9 in a brand new WRX.

Car and driver did 0-60 in 5.4 seconds with the stock wrx (october 2001 issue) some more numbers from that issue:

0-100 15.5
1/4 mile 14.1 sec

To help answer your question, car and driver also did a 5-60 test (rolling start with no clutch dump, car already in gear) and it resulted in a 6.6 second time. I would say that 0-60 with no clutch/tranny abuse would come in about 6.5 secs.

I have a wagon, so it may be a bit different. With my Gtech Pro Comp I was getting 6.2 sec consistently with no mods and only launching from 4k and below. Now with the Stage 0 from Vishnu I am hitting upper mid 5's without killing the start.

Don't know how accurate the Gtech Pro Comp really is yet though.

I'm not trying to rude but this seems like a stupid question...

If you launch the car quick you will get quick times like those listed in the mags. If you baby your car you will get slower times.

How about you guys break it down, say... 1-10. You tell me what kinda launch you do 1-10 and I (like the mindreader I am) will guess what your 0-60 times are

Well, Consumer Reports is not into abusing trannys, and they say 6.2.

The point of my original question was to somehow try and figure out how quick the WRX is without a hard launch. Cars like Mustang GTs and such have decent amounts of torque such that casual take-offs probably don't kill their acceleration. I've seen plenty of GTs around, and I am wondering if I can practice the stealth approach for a launch, or if they will absolutely leave me behind unless I launch a bit harder - and thus arousing attention.

They will absolutely leave you behind unless you launch a bit harder. I have a stock 2002 WRX manual, a stock '95 Mustang Cobra and a highly modified '90 Mustang GT (470 hp dyno at sea level).

The primary problem with the stock WRX is it's doggy off the line unless you goose it to about 4K and slip the clutch a bit. The torque on the Mustangs let them wrap up lots quicker in first gear from an easy start. The newer stock Mustangs get off the line very quickly. My REX is going to Cobb for the RT Spec and STI injector treatment, then I suspect it will have enough torque to ease away without excessive RPM or clutch slip and easily bite any stock Mustang. The new Cobra with 390 hp will be a challenge, but the advertised zero - sixty on the Cobb RT (4.32) is a few tenths faster than the 4.6 tested on the supercharged 03 Cobra. The 1/4 mile times are similar, so I suspect the greater hp and torque on the Cobra are making it up at the higher speeds approaching the 1/4 tape.

I had a go with a 2002 mustang gt. we went from a rolling start at about 5mph. I got on the gas first so naturally i pulled ahead. I stayed ahead through 1st and most of second, but then all of a sudden he just started pulling and started passing me, then i let off so that i would not be speeding. 302lb of torque seem to help.

I'd say 6.4 seconds, only because that's what Subaru had in their first batch of WRX adds back in Spring 2001, so I guess that is what the car was made to do long term.

If they had said that the WRX could do 5.4, a lot of n00bs might try it and break something. Subaru puts 0-60 @ 5.4 times in their adds, but they say that's what "Car and Driver" got.

I GTeched mine at 5.52 seconds from 0-60. I slipped the clutch from 4K RPMs and had less than quarter tank gas. I only have one mod. I removed the intake and the silencer.

I ran a 5.2 0-60 and the 1/4 mile in 13.6 @ 104 mph. I used my Cobb AP to get my numbers. Will be going out to the track on Wed. (Speedworld in Orl. Fl.)

I'm running an 18g w/ APS TMIC on Cobbs OTS map. Hopefully I can mach the numbers at the track.

stock mustang=slow.... you should try going up against a stock Z28 or SS

Has me wondering what the 0-60 on my STi is. I always estimated in the low 4's (stage 2).

I was running 13 flats at the track this summer and went head to head against a newer mustang. I crushed that car. I actually looked back as i was crossing the line to see if the guy was still racing. He ran close to a 15 something. I LOVE beating V8s at the track.....love it!

I think on a 13 second pass with a launch and a 5 speed, you'd be well into the 4's for a 0-60.

Not to go too far off-topic, but why is the 0-60 the standard measure for car companies? If a car does 0-60 in a respectable 6 second range, then continues on to 100 mph in a total of 16 seconds, the 0-60 time is deceiving. 16 seconds to 100 mph is a little slow IMO but a 6 second 0-60 seems sporty.

PPG FTW. In the end cheaper than an STI and w/o the insurace.

With not so hard launch (about 2700 with the 4EAT) I'm right at 5.8-6.0.
