View Full Version : 1/4 times w/TXS stage 2
WRX1832 06-21-2002, 10:33 PM Just ran a 13.25@100.8 with the following mods:
TXS Stage 2
Vishnu Uppipe
Samco I/C hoses
Weather was about 80-85 degrees at Lebanon Valley Dragway in NY.
I am pretty happy with the results.

That is a pretty good times.
What was your 60ft, 1/8mile e.t and mph??
WRX1832 06-22-2002, 12:30 AM Oops, kinda left out a few details. Here ya go:
60 1.825
330 5.404
1/8 8.406
mph 83.40
1000 11.025
1/4 13.255
mph 100.56
This was the best run of the day with several 13.3s. I ran a 13.366 with a 200lb passenger. Of couse I got the "if you are gonna take a passenger you need to slow down" speach. That actually made me kinda happy :)
Let me know if you want any other details.
**One large one I left out before...I was running a hpmbc instead factory boost control. It was set for about 16psi.

Bunuel 06-22-2002, 12:40 PM Do you know what the WHP was on your car?
WRX1832 06-22-2002, 08:35 PM Unfortunately I have no idea what kind of power it's putting out. If anyone with experience wants to take a guess I am all ears....

Need4Boost 06-23-2002, 11:35 AM What rpms where you launching at? Did you slip or dump the clutch? Shift points?
Great job!
WRX1832 06-23-2002, 12:13 PM My launch tecnique was to slip the clutch at about 5500 to 6000. I never have been one to pay that close attention to the numbers. Didn't do it with my pas Cobra's either. I just do what feels right. Shift points varied depending on gear. I held third the longest up to redline because fourth sucks so bad in these cars.
Anyone want to venture a hp guess?

BoostedAWD 06-23-2002, 12:56 PM hey ..thats nice times..but isnt a turbo xs stage 2 kit supposed to hit High 12?s im not sure...
another questions..is how were u able to tune the txs unichip to accomdate the vishnu uppipe?
another one..:D how long was the install? was it fairly easy?

I have it on tape it you want it..... or Im going to try to but it into a mpeg file and post it.
WRX1832 06-23-2002, 09:26 PM WRXWrecks,
Thanks, that would be awesome. How did your day go? I only got to see you run once or twice. One time it looked like it kinda bogged off the line. These are tough cars to launch consistently.
What was the mod list again?
Mike
WRX1832 06-23-2002, 09:46 PM Boosted,
A TXS stage 2 is not meant to get one into the 12's. Most people need an aftermarked turbo to do so. That would be nice though if a $1700 kit could get you there.
The unichip with the stage 2 map does not need to be remapped for the uppipe according to the good guys (and I stress good) at TXS.
The uppipe install was not bad. It took me about 4 hours but I already had the turbo heat shields off. It really depend how much experience you have with working one cars. I would not suggest it for a nervous beginner.

Dude I couldnt buy a launch if I wanted to. It bogged EVERYTIME off the line and it was pissing me off. I think that was the problem, I was getting to frustrated that I really didnt take to much care in what I was doing. But my best run of the day was a 14.3 but the time slip was blank other then the R/T and 1/8 I think. I have a slip for 14.5 so I'll take that against my friends VR4. Not what I wanted but it's a starting point. Not to bad for

SGOSWRX 06-25-2002, 01:18 PM Great times.
My best with the stage 2 setup was 13.33 @ 101 mph. The only other mod I had for my run was their hpmbc.
My best 1/4 mile run
1.82
5.43
8.47 @ 81.29
11.10
13.33 @ 101 mph
My best stage 2 - 1/8 mile was
8.40 @ 82 mph - 13. 39 @ 100 mph 1/4 mile
dug-e-fresh 06-25-2002, 02:43 PM great time... but did you happen to miss 4th or anything? perhaps a slow shift?
reason I ask, looking at your 8th mile trap speed (83mph) I would expect a higher quarter trap speed... like 103 or so.
My best run looks like this:
60- 1.836
330- 5.364
1/8- 8.340 @ 83.08
1000- 10.907
1/4- 13.097 @ 103.11
Every good run I have I pull 19-21 mph from the 8th mile trap to the quarter mile trap, good meaning decent launch and NO missed shifts...
At any rate I think with that 8th mile trap you could run quicker... thats good news for you! Good job!

WRX1832 06-26-2002, 01:03 AM SGO and Dug,
Thanks for the kind words.
SGO, with an uppipe and IC hose you should be running at least what I did.
Dug-e, I did not miss a shift. I know what you are saying though about the low trap speeds. Earlier in the day I had a few runs over 101 (almost 102) but then it got really warm and humid. One of my theories is that because it was so hot the computer might have been compensating near the end of the run as things warmed up quite a bit. Also, compared to other tracks, most peoples trap speed is lower at LVD by about 1-2 mph. I will see what happens when I make it to New England Dragway on a nice cool night.
Wrecks, what was your mph? Were you popping the clutch or slipping it?
BTW, anyone running similar time dyno your car?? What were the numbers?
Thanks
Mike
BoostedAWD 06-26-2002, 02:02 AM dont poeple get roughly the same times as you guys, with vishnu stage 0 kit? i figured 1000$ vs 1600$, and u get the same times...with the same reliablity and support. one would rather go to vishnu stage 0 right?
im just trying to clarafy the performance outcome between the two kits.
dug-e-fresh 06-26-2002, 08:01 AM A big factor with most when buying these kits is a little more than just support... people like to be able to go to the shops. With Vishnu in Cali and TXS in Maryland, they are pretty much as opposite of one another as you can get.... then you have Cobb somewhat in the middle of the US (Texas), but they also happen to be thee most expensive of the 3.
There have been other vendors developing their own kits recently, adding to the diversity from which WRX owners have to choose from... but generally alot of people end up falling back on the geographical thing... and its makes for a good argument.
So you gotta ask yourself, do I want to be able to drive to the shop for support/custom tuning... or do I trust the tuner, and am I willing to deal with just phone support?
It is true that for the most part it takes Stage 2 from TXS to compete similiarly on the dragstrip with Vishnu Stage 0. More or less I dont think it means one is better than the other, its just two different phylosophies they use to go about developing their respective kits. With TXS you are paying a pretty penny for that fancy harness they offer, it is really nice. Vishnu although has developed one recently too, but as yet has not included it in their kits... so that will change the price comparison.
If you look at TXS's Stage 2 kit this way you get: a full exhaust, a well tuned piggyback ECU and a well engineered wiring harness for ease of installation and removal (and other nifty functions, like raising the boost cut)... in that aspect $1600 is a real good deal.
With Vishnu Stage 0 you get the same well tuned piggyback ECU, just no harness... but you get a couple other very smartly chosen components that go along way to improve the car without the expense of a full exhaust system, in that way $1000 is a good deal...
Thats my take... in the end, I chose Vishnu Stage 0 and I live in Maryland. I am very happy with my descision... not that I would not have been with TXS, but basically because my car performs... and in the end, they will both make your car perform better...

normjack 06-26-2002, 09:14 AM Hello everyone, I'm new here..
Those times are truly impressive with minimal mods.
This is why I'm interested in buying an 02 WRX. I currently own an 01 Vette Z06 that goes 12.0's , I unfortunately need to sell it, gotta cut back some. I don't drive the car enough to justify spending the $$$, nor can I cruise with my family in it. Anyway I'm gonna replace it with an 02 WRX, I still wanna have a nice car to toy with and make it fast. Just looking at you guy's 1/4 mile times assure's me that my goal of 12.9's with the WRX for under $2grand are attainable.
WRX1832 06-26-2002, 11:50 AM Boosted,
I actually got the stage 2 w/out the muffler so the cost was about $1260. A lot closer to the VS0. In my opinion, the harness was worth the extra $$$ as I did not want to hack the stock wire harness. It was an easy plug and play install that can be UNDONE with no traces. Personal preference I suppose. In regards to the VS0, from what I see, it is the exception, not the rule when people run a 13.1. I have seen a lot of mid 13's out of it, even high 13's. I ran a 13.71 with my MBC but it does not make it better then a VS0.
Also, when looking at 1/4 mile times, take them with a grain of salt unless the two cars when head to head. There are far too many variations that will effect the cars performance even if we leave out driver skill. Temp, humidity, altitude, track variences and even wheels all play a major part in the 1/4 times. Think about it, people say you can't really compare different dyno numbers and they compensate for some of these factors. Also keep in mind some cars are stronger from the factory then others.
As it sits my car has less then $2000 in mods and I think given the right conditions I could possibly run a 13.0 so I am pretty happy.
Dug-e did you run your car bone stock? Also what what RPM did you shift into 4th at? What were the track conditions?
Norm, thanks. The Z06 is a really nice car. There were a few at the track when I was racing. I actually beat a yellow Z06 on one run. The guy just could not drive because he should have SMOKED me. I think he was pissed because he stayed on the gas well after the 1/4 had ended. I will warn you, this car is VERY different then a car with a V8. The pathetic lack of torque takes some getting used to and requires a vastly different driving style. At least that is my opinion having owned 2 Mustang Cobra's prior with one being supercharged. If you are looking for a do it all well car this is it. Good in snow, strong in the 1/4, does well at the autocross, holds a car seat, it's quiet (with stock muffler) and gets good gas mileage. Good luck with your purchase.
Mike
ScoobieSnaX 06-26-2002, 05:02 PM i wonder what elevation that was at??? :D
dug-e-fresh 06-27-2002, 08:08 AM Dug-e did you run your car bone stock? Also what what RPM did you shift into 4th at? What were the track conditions?
I unfortunately never ran her stock... long story why, but I did run her with JUST my Blitz SBC i-D, and hit a best of 13.710 @ 98.23mph... and that was a max of say 15 psi.... I know it was close to stock.... its been awhile though.
I shift all gears at redline, always have... I have experimented abit, and at one time I was able to bring my trap up a tad by shifting out of 3rd into 4th A LITLLE early... but the time was a little slower.
When I ran the 13.097 time and the 13.115 time it was on May 3, 2002.. it was probably about 50-60f out, the track hadn't started posting conditions yet, I imagine the humidity was low... at Cecil Dragway they only post conditions on the slip from about June to September.
The only major thing I did to the car was remove the muffler, but I only did that to help my times because my clutch was slipping BAD! I figured on some bad times that night.... what I walked away with surprised the heck out of me. Before then my best time was 13.248 @ 101.67 ran on March 1, 2002 (with muffler, pretty good clutch).
