View Full Version : What's the best adjustable, supportive, sport seat?

RacerinLSL

I was planning on having my WRX seats re-upholstered in grey suede/alcantara on the flat surfaces with black leather on the sides/bolsters. It turns out this will be quite expensive and was wondering what everyones favorite daily driver sport seats were. They need to be adjustable fore/aft and recline, don't care for lumbar though.

I appreciate the help in advance.

Best bang for the buck is probably OBX seats. I think it's like half the price of a sparco seat.

Not all seats fit people the same even if you're of similar builds. The only way to know for sure is to try them.

Chad, I get your WRX seats!

The best seat is the one that fits you. I'm a 5'7", 135lb weakling http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif and the Recaro SRD fits me purrrfectly!

Any decent race shop should have sample seats that you can sit in. Problem is they are usually on the floor -- ask them to prop it a few inches off the ground to get a real feel for it.

Necromancer - the problem with that is I'm in St. Louis, there are no worthy shops here. I like a big side bolster that is tight, as I'm a slender 6'0"

I'm a slender 6'4", and love the Recaro Sport seat I have (expect for the friggin' creaking noises it makes). The shoulder supports are quite high, which is good for me The side bolsters give more than adequate support, but are still civilized, and the seat is easy to get in and out of.

As always, go sit in a bunch of seats before you buy. Don't just sit down, grin and get up, but sit there for a good while. That way you can really tell what works for you and what doesn't...

The OBX seats are roughly $620 for a pair. I forget where I saw this price, but it does exist.
Here's what they look like:

This is Mike Moffa's car.
I hope he doesn't mind that I posted the pic.

I heard that the corbeaus disintegrate quickly. OTOH, they feel really nice. I am 5'11" and about 170lbs and I just stuck right into it.

I'm about 5'10 - 125 lbs, and the Momo Street Racer's fit me like a glove.

Thanks jamie,

Also, do you just need the slider brackets alone, or do you need a universal bracket also?

Necromancer: (thinking) 5'7" and 135lbs?

I'm 6' and 160. I can take you! I'm going to come by and kick your ass!! Hmmm... You live around here, too. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Seriously, I've been thinking about getting that same seat, and I want one that will be snug for my scrawny frame.

A lot of people have recommended against the Sparcos and the Corbeaus because they wear out quickly.

Any chance of seeing how yours worked out? How they look and feel in the car is different than how they look and feel in the showroom.

What did you pay and where did you get them? What was involved with installing them? Do they go on the factory mounts&slider?

Subiegal: Discretion aside, how tall are you and (er....http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/blush.gif ) how much do you weigh? I'd be afraid to be swimming around in this chair every time I took a corner. Does it have a solid back? Is the lumbar adjustable?

Yup Yup - SG posted a pic of the MOMO street racer - I'm telling you, that is a nice seat!! Very expensive though...

RacerinLSL - I don't actually HAVE that seat yet http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif... ahh I want it so bad!! Kartboy does though, and I sat in it in his car...

I seriously couldn't slide left or right around those 1g turns in Tom's DMS/turbo/tecII equipped ride. And the seat was very comfortable too.

Subie Gal and others, this place appears to be cheaper than sports car parts.com: http://www.proflowdesign.com/1018.html
Hope this helps, I love those seats, too.

p.s. Jamie, you're gonna have Momo seats with a Sparco steering wheel?!?!?!?http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

I think Subie Gal is into the yellow of the Momo's! That's why she's willing to risk a "label conflict" - Sparco steering wheel with a Momo seat! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif hehehee!! The names don't match but the colours do.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

ps -- if anybody can get away with a black and yellow Subaru, it's gotta be Subie Gal!

Yeah, but then I might have to open up a can of Oriental Necromancy on yo' unwitting a$$. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Anyhoo.

Deepbeep, the creaking sound was from your SEAT? Ohhhhhh ... that explains a lot. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif

And SubieGal, I see we still have that weird yellow fetish eh?

I'll post a "WRX seat report" as soon as I get my car...

What about the stock WRX seats from other countries? The ones without the side airbags? They may not be brand name ones but they are great too http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

The new Prodrive seats look great. Does anyone have a pic? It is in the new SCC this month. I would like to know a price, and where I can get them.
Thanks

Contrasting brands for steering wheel and seats are fine.

Skylines, Evos have MOMO steering wheels and Recaro seats.

Following up on this thread, how is the mounting bracket and slider for the MOMO Streat Racer? Is there a kit to attach it to the OEM points, or do I have to do some drilling? Quality of the slider?

Thanks,

Joe
