HndaTch627 06-26-2002, 03:29 AM G=Impreza
C=Sedan
8=2.0T
G=Impreza
C=Sedan
6=2.5
G=Impreza
M=Coupe
6=2.5
scubaracer 06-26-2002, 03:35 AM so, instead of saying we have gc8's, then we really have the gc8 body style. correct?
also, didn't they make a gc8 coupe?
if so, would that be a gm8?:confused:
thanks

Julian 06-26-2002, 01:04 PM G does equal Impreza, however C equals Saloon and Coupe (read: four-door and two-door). F would be the wagon.
stiguy555 06-26-2002, 08:26 PM I hear people calling their 2.5RSs GC8s, which is wrong since they have the EJ25 and not the EJ20. So they all have a GC6 and the GM6(coupe). Although maybe there isnt a separate designation for the 2/4 door?:confused:
Section 8 06-27-2002, 12:58 AM People use "GC8" and everyone knows what you are talking about. It might be wrong, but its effective communication.
It the same thing as people saying that they won't do something because it is not their forte (4-tay). That, of course, is wrong. forte(4-tay), is a music notation. Forte, pronounced 'fort" is the correct word to mean something at which someone excels. 74% of people say it 4-tay. How many of those people assume that that is correct? If you go around saying fort, you confuse people and at worst, people think you are a moron, even though you are of the minority of people who actually speaking correctly.
FWIW-
My car (2001 RS, coupe) is a GM6, as verified by the VIN.

Andrew 06-27-2002, 01:49 AM GC6 with a 4EAT
some people are true GC8s now though (ej20 swaps).

It would either be GC4 or GM4 depending on if it's a coupe or sedan. As far as i can tell both the 1.8 and the 2.2 use "4" as the engine designation:)

grubaru 07-01-2002, 11:50 AM I know the difference between my car (GM6) and the GC8, but it got tiring trying to explain to everyone what the difference was. Thats why I just call it a GC8. Damn WRX owners. Can't learn anything.:lol:

It seems the 2.2 was designated by "6" for 1995 and by "4" afterwards.

Thanks for this clarification HndaTch627. I never really knew exactly what they all meant. People need to start using the right designation for car type. Now I know I own a GF4.
Why couldn't Subaru just use S for Sedan, C for Coupe and W for Wagon? Jeez! :rolleyes:

These designations should be for 1996 onwards. My '95 2.2 wagon is GF6.
Ikonosin 07-02-2002, 12:23 AM You could be right...My Kelley Blue Book only goes back as far as my1996, before that it says "Use older car guide":D It's kinda wierd how the letter/number designation would change from year to year...Seems like they would have a standard:confused:
Scott:)
Eric SS 07-02-2002, 05:02 AM So I still don;t know *** to call mine :)
