View Full Version : I'd just like to say...
mtb_dude 06-26-2002, 02:30 PM The reason I got into Subaru's was becuase of my friends 00' RS. He would take me on these back country roads and I couldn't believe how much fun that friggin' thing was!! It left a real impression on me. I also love the SVX, though I would probably never own one. My first Subby is my WRX, but I'm more of the classical Subby type I think. I'm the outdoors type and I trek my bike to parts unknown and ride for hours. I'm considered wierd to everyone I know. I do everything different just because . . :) and people like that about me. I also happen to hate almost every WRX owner I've met. :( I wave at them and they look at me like, "What? You wanna race?" I feel like a newbie sport bike rider again waving to the Harley guys who are too busy posing in thier "bad to the bone" stare to notice my moto-brotherly gesture. Ho-hummm
I really thought Subaru would be immune from rice boys and dumb Mustang-like driver mentality, but alas I see this is not the case. So accept my apology for contributing to this madness, I can't help but wish that WRX owners continue to blow out their gears and wreck thier clutchs and SOA gives them a hard time so that they will hate Subarus again and I can feel at home being different. If not, then I'm getting a front mount intercooler and putting the new RS hood on my car and debaging it. :(
HndaTch627 06-26-2002, 03:39 PM sounds good to me...the community has definitely changed and not for the better, it's nice to have more vedors around but then again when they stop providing parts for the early generations what real good are they doing?? i don't mind WRX owners as long as they remember that they aren't the only "fast" car on the road...alot of them tend to forget that.
jeremy
p.s.: the subaru love is not with them either, i don't even waste my time waving at rexers anymore cause they never wave back, they sound their BOV and leave....ghey
beethoven 06-26-2002, 04:26 PM It's good to hear that some WRX owner's have their head screwed on straight. ;)
Some WRX owners will pull up to a stop light and roll down their window to talk to me (a lowly RS owner), others just give me a stupid stare if I wave.
But...what can you do. The WRX isn't a niche car like the RS was/is.
HondaH8er 06-26-2002, 05:17 PM It's like Sport Compact Car said when they got thier hands on a WRX; they asked if it was going to be the next Civic. Looks like the answer is yes, lots of people buying them without knowing anything about Subaru, and then asking where they can get a "phat body kit, yo," and "can I fit 20's under there?" But you sound cool, we'll let you stay.;)
stiguy555 06-26-2002, 08:21 PM I remember when everyone on I-club was praying for the Impreza WRX to come here and now that we have it: some actually wish it never came. It helped Subaru but hurt us in a way, all of these idiots going from a Civic to a WRX. Putting altezzas on it, 20 inch wheels, neons, it's just going the wrong way. Oh well, more EJ20s to swap in.:D
HondaH8er 06-27-2002, 12:13 AM Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's here, I just wish more of the owners knew anything about the RS, and didn't think you where trying to race when you wave at them. Oh, well, I met many cool Rexer's, so at least they aren't all bad.;)

Eric it's true though, the orginal WRX purchasers were kick ass, it's the last 7k on them that suck ass. subaru got too big for it's britches and in the process the original buyers and enthusiats have been forgotten.

mtb_dude 06-27-2002, 11:35 AM Somebody posted a graph of IQ vs Member number and I thought it was pretty funny. I think I came out to a 125, so I think the graphs pretty accurate ;)
And another side effect I guess is I can prolly get a 99 or 00 RS soon for a good price and use that to start some amature rally.
stiguy555 06-27-2002, 02:14 PM You mean this? http://forums.i-club.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=2159685
Guess who made it?:D
RaceCarRiot 06-27-2002, 06:27 PM why do most owners have the 'mustang mentality'? because most of them here used to drive them before they got their rex'es. and then they bitch about how limited the aftermarket is, how all the subaru vendors are sketchy, and how much more it costs to maintain a modern car than an old iron dinosaur.
there are a few cool WRX owners around here, but guess what? all of them drove L's or RS's before that. :D
whatever, hopefully most of this will blow over once the EVO gets here. hopefully. until then, it does provide us with lots of EJ20's out of wrecked cars, and lots of i-club entertainment. nothing makes me smile more than watching someone get jumped all over by the old members in the wheel/suspension forum when they ask if they can fit 20's on their WRX. :D
or where they can get altezzas...
or when they tell everyone they disconnected their muffler...
or how they can get into the 12's with only $500 to spend...

subyguy2 06-27-2002, 11:04 PM We were immune from the ricer/mustang mentality, until the WRX made its way over to the US.
Chris.

jeremy Thanks. ;) It'll turn the other way once the EVO and 350Z's get here. Those in it for image will disappear onto the next big thing. One can only hope at least
There are times I wish I still had my GC8, like tight auto-xes, but then the WRX wagon shines on the more open ones due to an additional 10 mph in 2nd. :)

The WRX was here about 7 months before you registered your current name... if you weren't a member, how can you reminisce about something you weren't here for? :D

I think that's the key. Mags like SCC are already talking up the new EVO. I think the WRX is suffering from rich people bandwagon jumping (pardon the pun!). All these people with money to burn (or thier kids begging for a 25k allowance) look at the magazine that say the WRX is sensational, and then they go out and buy or lease it. They drive cars until the novelty is worn off and then go to the next big thing. That's just what rich people generally do, consume and abandon. What will be left at i-club will be all the old school guys and mostly the rex owners who understand the Scooby stigma. I hope . . .
btw: KC, I saw your car in a picture at an autocross. Awesome man! I'm getting Falkins and Subzeros any day now :D
