it seems to me
1st goes by so fast it is hard not to hit the limiter
2nd really strong about 3500 RPM
3rd just seems too long
4th can get you to 100 real fast
5th is great too

I wish subaru would've made my car 6 speed and made 3rd gear shorter.

i hate 4th...my car pulls strong all the way from 1st-3rd. 4th is useless. i think my car acutually accelerates just as quickly (or more) in 5th on the highway. downshifting to 4th seems to just make noise, and cause frustration. :lol:

I think my gears are fine, i just need some FI to help them along.

I like third, good for driving around town without having to shift much. Especially with all the torque of the 2.5.

I hate 1st gear the most but 2nd is pretty bad also. I like third and fourth. :)

I hate 4th more than 3rd... but that's when I'm redline shifting. Otherwise, anything beyond 2nd is fuel saving as far as I'm concerned.

2nd gear is my only fun gear :lol: In every other gear, my car feels butt slow :lol:

You know what's pretty fun. 5th gear on the freeway at about 4,000rpm's which I think is about 85mph. I can punch it in that gear, get full boost almost instantly, and actually feel the acceleration without downshifting. I love it :)

3rd gear is great. 4th is my favorite. 1st is useless. 2nd is my most used while I'm shifting like crazy in traffic. In 5th gear, lock up your daughters.:devil:

Well I guess I AM the only one who hates 3rd gear. And I LOVE 1st. NOt because it is great for around town driving, cause it isn't, but because In a race I can take most Non-awd cars in 1st and 2nd, but once I hit 3rd they reel me in.

a 6 speed would be fun...

1. underdrive pulley will make 3rd accelerate alot faster.

2. Hold down your clutch for 3 seconds, then put it into reverse...No more clunking.

I cant stand 5th gear in my impreza, its seems to be a little too tall (?) it seems like I am always having to down shift to stay in the power band

I know what you mean Imprezive. I can always beat my freinds (Honda's and Acura's) all the way through 2nd (a car length or two!!) but once I hit third, they catch right up next to me and 4th I can keep them right with me.
