how much time could be dropped in the 1/4-mile by changing only the gearing on a WRX?

ps: what's with the dumbass title of this forum?

well i went with the mrt dogbox drag ratio gearset, very nice set up 1st and 2nd gear are very close and 3rd and 4th gear are alot longer than stock gearing , thus making you finish the 1/4 mile in 4th also making more power in 4th gear , turbo cars love tall gearing I thinkabout maybe 3 tenths - 5 tenths could be saved from not shifting into 5th gear in the 1/4 just think how long it takes a person to shift thats the time youll save and the turbo loves to make power in those types of gears... doggbox works great no synchros dialy driven .. gotta love it

how does the dogbox actually work. how does it differ from syncro's. if i use the clutch does it drive normally.

You have to shift to 5th in a 1/4?

I have the stock gears in my 02 RS, and I question myself shifting to 4th, or see if 3rd will bounce off the rev-limit.

I am not sure the difference in gearing, I thought the final ration for a WRX was 3.99 and mine is 4.11, not sure per gear though.

well on the gears you have what are doggs these stick out they look like little blocks of metal , when you shift the doggs grab the other gear that it is going too.
At first you will hear loud thumping of gears , takes a while to get used too tricky part is downshifting without grinding best thing to do is shift into nutral let out clutch push lever like it is going in gear just when you feel it stop and not go down into the next gear , rev it up to 3000 and them push in clutch and it pops in perfect takes some time to figure out the way it likes to shift .
The clutch is fine driving around , I got a upgraded mrt clutch full disc and a chalak lightwieght flywheel very nice and the shifter feels so firm no shifter upgrade at all just the tranny mounts , I think ill put in the shifter bushings later. Let me tell ya the sound of the gears from being straight cut is amazing I love it alot of peeps think the tranny is going out ,I always have people asking me why it is so noisey and why does it whine forget turbo man the gears sound amazing , if there is ever a meet ill try and bring the car down and show some peeps very clean black with 18 inch volk se 37k looks alot like the other black one around so cal but he has alot more looks on his than mine and he has the pollished volks .
Anymore ? ill be glad to answer

expect to see some extra lag with your fmic. i have had the blitz kit on my car for about 6 months now and i love it. since i still have the stock turbo its a little laggy. still fun though.

after that its fuel system and stand alone and a big aps sr50 turbo and hopefully mid 11's on the stock block have alot of little tricks im in the works right now with the motor that should help make some power that worked well with my old drag honda ... hey can u tell me where does the piping route go from the turbo to the ic on the driver side just interested if its under the motor or pics would help thanks

the piping goes out of the turbo and goes straight up and then u turns down. it goes under that car next to the oil pan. there is a mount that connects to the transmission. after it passes the side of the oil pan it turns out towards the drivers side then u turns into the intercooler. on the other side of the intercooler the pipes turn right and then go up the fender through the hole and to your throttle body. in the instructions you will see how you have to cut a hole in the engine bay fender. where the factory air box goes, there is a hole. the hole next to it and the factory air box holes gets cut to become one oval shapped hole. it took me 4 hours to do the entire install. here are some pictures.

did you notice a decent amount of power when u added the front mount , i saw a dyno of the xs car and it made like 20 hp in the mid range and 8 hp up top you think the car felt like that?

STEALTH-WRX

it felt faster but i think its because i felt lag until 3500rpm then it just all kicked at once, so i felt faster. but if the dyno shows power then so be it.

Hey boost, I was wondering, did you buy the blitz sus intake? What came with the kit or what did you have to do to make it functional? I have a blitz sus filter lying around and I wanted to put it on the wrx i'm about to get. It has a 5" diameter. Also, where do you live in southern cali? I live in Rancho Cucamonga. Thanks in advance!

Peter

Angus,

Instead of spending 5k on a dogbox, you could change your wheel size to 13-14". Get some cheap bald (not with wires coming out..hehe) tires on all 4 corners and get some 1/4 mile times. It should be interesting.

How about some 13" Justy wheels? :D Just for experimental sakes.

Angus if you dont drive the hell out of the car changing the gear ratio will probably hurt your times. I know how you drive... not such a great idea ;)
