I'm curious about the gearing on the '01 Impreza 2.5RS's. My old Type R was at home in 2nd gear almost all the time while autocrossing. Very rarely did I need to shift to 3rd.

What about the 2.5RS's? Will 3rd gear be required alot? How fast do they go in 2nd gear?

Then you will be sorely disappointed to hear that the 2.5RS will only go about 52mph in second gear. On any decent sized lot, you will shift. Maybe repeatedly. I shifted 5 times per run at a recent event. 1-2-3-2-3-2 I really needed 4 shifts at the Atwater Pro, but made do with only 2 shifts.

hey Brett. I auto-x in your region with my 2.5rs (one of the many blue ones). I usually just stick it in 2nd and let her go. The nature of both Goodyear and Firestone are short enough to get away with just keeping it in 2nd. I do hit the rev-limiter once in a while on the longer straights, but I think my lack of ability to heel-toe and shift up/down from 2-3-2 is worth the time.
