Ricter 07-08-2002, 11:33 AM How are these applied? And how do they stay attached?

AlanTheWoo 07-08-2002, 11:52 AM can you post a pic on the car?

Scoobs 07-08-2002, 04:15 PM yeah i would also like to see em on the car....in the 2 peice cause in the pick that looks a lil weired.. and a responce would be nice.. you have to answer questions to sell a product...starting to show poor customer support already:rolleyes:
speedrkj 07-08-2002, 04:18 PM I also would like to see pics of them on a car....
Speed FX 07-08-2002, 04:40 PM GEE you newbies are impatient .I am trying to get hold of someone that has a set on to get a pic and you guys are bad mouthing me.
They are vinyl decals. Custom cut to fit the light assembly. There are several ways to apply them. The wet method works the easiest for most. Once they are on and the water dries they will be destroyed if you try and take them off.We have generic directions for applying these.
We have them in a ton of colors including a match to the WRB. Along with white, black, silver, pink, lavender:eek:
Just PM us and we can check the color you want.
I hope you guys feel better now
Randy
Jejunum 07-09-2002, 08:15 AM do u have a match to the midnight black? i was hoping to see a pic of it installed on a car...also does it block the turn signal?
RALLYT-WRX 07-09-2002, 09:08 AM I have a set of these eyelids on my WRB WRX and they look great! The match is perfect.
I will post some pics tomorrow.:D
Speed FX 07-09-2002, 11:45 AM I have a bunch of colors but sorry to say I don't have all the cars to match the color. If it is a metalic color then the metalic colors will probably be really close. I know a few people who have the silver that I can match it to and see. And of course Matt got the WRB so we know it matches. If any one lives near White Marsh MD and wants to come over or have a meet where we can match the colors up, I will do that. Thanks
It does block some of the signal.

Slappie 07-10-2002, 06:51 PM How do you keep the stuff from wrinkling? Has this been an issue? Is it pretty thin? does light come thru white ones?
Thanks
Speed FX 07-10-2002, 08:55 PM I have not had trouble with the vinyl wrinkling. If you use the water application and take your time and have some patience it should be fine. I don't have a pic of the lower ones on the car yet.
BeavisNuke 07-11-2002, 09:32 AM Could someone explain how to apply these using the water application method?
I've never applied vinyl before.
Speed FX 07-11-2002, 12:55 PM Here is just some basic info on the application. There are directions that come with it.
For the water application you use a solution of water and soap (mostly water) in a spray bottle. You apply the water to the area where you want the decal to go. Take the paper backing off and put the decal where you want it to go. Smooth out the bubbles and remove the transfer tape if it has it.
The reason for the water is to help you move it around and line it up better.
Hope this helps. :)
Gypsum2 07-11-2002, 08:59 PM CAN somone please please get a pic of the lower eyelids day night.... they look cool but i would really like to see an on car pic before sending money.
thx

Received Chris B.,Melvin A.,Anu Aand Graham G.today.If you sent checks once they clear we will send them out.
Thanks Friends.
Randy
Speed FX 07-16-2002, 08:23 AM Melvin sent you a pm.
Cicciolina 07-16-2002, 07:20 PM May I ask are they thick enough so that the light won't shine
through. Or should I buy two an put one on top of the others.
Speed FX 07-16-2002, 09:01 PM To prevent light from shining (per our research and developement department, which is me putting some on a bright flashlight)through it is a good idea to put a black pair on first.
Mecachrome 07-17-2002, 02:22 AM Hey I just tried to PM you, but your mailbox was full. I was wondering if you still had the WRB color in stock and if so what method of payment is easiest (i've never used the paypal system) .
Speed FX 07-17-2002, 12:31 PM yep we still have them. We accept paypal check or money order. You can also use a credit card on paypal. Do you already have an account with paypal or do you need to set one up? They are really easy to use.
Johnny Fargas 07-17-2002, 02:33 PM I would like to know if they come in sedonna red?
Speed FX 07-17-2002, 02:49 PM I have a couple different reds but I am not sure which on matches that one. Is is a metalic or a dull red?
Johnny Fargas 07-17-2002, 03:06 PM It is metallic!
BeavisNuke 07-17-2002, 07:33 PM Hi, just wanted to confirm that mine shipped.
Did you send these out through USPS?
beavisnuke@hotmail.com was the paypal email.
blu_light 07-18-2002, 03:37 PM got my eyelids they look pretty sweet on.... as far as light shinning thru to the vinyl I would say to let it just incase you pass in front of a police officer they can see that the turn signal is still visable and would have a harder time giving you a ticket.
Just a thought
Thanks speed-fx
Daniel
Speed FX 07-18-2002, 06:55 PM Thanks Daniel
We have had a couple of good questions about these.
1.We do not own a WRX yet (we have a RS) so we could not personally field test these. We took the recommendation of a few of our WRX friends on design ideas and test results.
2.WE can not and do not know the long terms affects of them on the headlamps. We use them on glass, paint, engine valve covers, etc but never on headlamps. After removing them from our high intensity flashlight that gets very very hot and was on for about 3 hours the only thing we noticed was some adhesive residue that cleaned up easily but we cannot guarantee what might happen.
3.Light does shine through but it is above the headlamp and shouldn't be a light problem but some have requested a black underlayment and now the light doesn't shine through.
4.We can instead of "WRX" on the bottom lids put anything that will fit on it and that goes for the top also.
5.We also can do these in the carbon fiber look .
6.It has been 3 years since we have had any time away so we will be out of the shop from Sunday July 21-Sunday 28
All PAID orders that have been received will go out Friday and Saturday .If you send us a Email after the 21st it may not be until Monday or Tuesday before we get back to you.
Thanks Friends
Randy and Teresa
Johnny Fargas 07-19-2002, 10:04 AM What abour the seddonna red color! any ideas?
Speed FX 07-19-2002, 02:14 PM you can send me your address and I can send you a little sample to see if it matches. Is it a metalic or flat color?
desiwrx02 07-19-2002, 09:12 PM Got em and put em on.... THEYRE GREAT!!! I cant see why youd pay 90 for the real ones... They fit, look and awesome. Cant comment on long term wear though
Thanks Speed FX!
Ajay
BeavisNuke 07-21-2002, 06:29 PM I ordered these on July 10th but have not received them yet.
Did they ship?
beavisnuke@hotmail.com was the paypal email address.
Conduit 07-21-2002, 06:49 PM Not to be "that guy" but you guys can't charge any extra to cover the paypal fee for credit cards. That's the way it is, it's in their usage agreement, and you have to abide by it.
I'm hoping someone posts a pic of them on the car at night with the lights on :)
take care,
rob
BeavisNuke 07-21-2002, 07:39 PM It won't affect the headlights, it only covers part of the blinker.
I'll be sure to post pics when I get them, if I get them

BeavisNuke 07-21-2002, 10:28 PM You ship these via US postal service right?
Just wanna make sure these didn't get mixed up on this end...
bahboy20 07-22-2002, 01:15 PM i sent my pics of the tops and bottoms on my silver car.
so whenever speed-fx gets my email, they will have access to the images of the tops and bottoms (day and night). personally, i enjoy the look of them, regardless of what others may say.

I know what you are saying about charging extra for the cc but think of it this way, they aren't charging you a $1 extra for the cost of the paypal account. The covers are $1 more if you use your cc. Its like when a gas station charged $1.25 for cash and $1.50 for credit card use. They aren't charging you directly for the paypal service they are just making the price of the head light cover $1 more. So that means they have not broken the usage agreement.
On another note just get them. I bought them and like them. The wagon that I have (white) kinda looks like an evil pikachu. Also a guy that has been doing collision repair for 31 years saw them on my car and said for price, look, and quality I got one of the best deals he has heard of.
Peace

my WeRX 07-24-2002, 01:08 PM here are pics of my install...
the eyelids unfortunately go a little bit lower than the top of the grille sidepieces, unlike on the other WRB WRX, which matches PERFECTLY, so it isn't a PERFECT fit...
but for $10, im not unhappy! :)
you can definitley see through the eyelids while the signal is on, and it gives a sort-of greenish-blue look. this is only noticeable at night, so i will try to take pics at night...
overall, i am VERY HAPPY of the eyelids...i saved $100!
tips for the install (this is what i did at least):
follow everything in the instructions except for this part:
do NOT try to install the eyelids with the transfer tape still on, it makes it VERY hard to position it on the headlight... jus peel off the transfer tape and position it on the moistened surface, then squeegie the water out to flatten it, because it will wrinkle while its still wet underneath.

Speed FX 08-05-2002, 07:28 AM Ricter - Yours are going out today. There is no tracking number on the ones sent by regular mail. If you want the priority mail it is $4 for shipping instead of $1. Let me know.
Thank you:D
bcblues 08-05-2002, 08:30 AM Can these be removed without damage to the lenses?? I could care less about ruining the vinyl, but I would be bummed if I wrecked my OEM lights.....
Ricter 08-05-2002, 08:46 AM OK, that's fine. didn't realize they just shipped via envelope mail...
shipping today then?
Thanks,

Speed FX 08-06-2002, 08:05 PM yep they went out.
We have no long term research on these yet because this is a brand new product for the lights.
Thanks
oooggss 08-06-2002, 09:05 PM i have question.......if u pay with check....do you just write down what u want on a separate piece of paper in an envelope? and also....do you have to pay for shippping and handling?

Thanks
bahboy20 08-07-2002, 10:09 AM guys, i removed my bottom lids with no problem at all.
i was so surprised-- there was no residue or nothing. I just used my fingers and peeled off the lid, and it came off so easily. there was no glue residue or anything it was great!
I had htem on about 1.5 weeks and they had been on the car outdoors the whole time, and it was no sweat. no residue, no need for goo be gone, just used my hands and the sticker stretched and came off in one huge stretched out piece..

japriljr 08-10-2002, 05:33 PM heres a pic! Make sure you put enough water on to be able to manuover it around a bit.
Speed FX 08-10-2002, 07:03 PM A combo of alcohol, water and a drop or two of dish liquid works great.
I have to admit they do look good.
Randy
oooggss 08-10-2002, 09:15 PM im still kinda confused on how to apply these eyelids...sorry.
so...u put water on the headlights with soap or whatever....and u just stick the eyelids on top of it and move it around till its wut u want it to look like? wont the stickiness go away if it goes on water?
desiwrx02 08-11-2002, 12:04 AM You just use the water and move it around. Squegee it out. I used my fingers, and the look great! The stickiness does not go away. Actually baked my headlights with them on for the headlight mod, and they are still pefectly fine.

Up close they look like crap, do to the $hitty install I did. The passenge side has some wrinkles and bubbles, but the driverside came out ok (as I did that one second). I didn't put enough water on the 1st time. I may need another set:(
Speed FX 08-12-2002, 05:03 AM We use our finger or a paper towel to squeegee the water out.
If you are unsure how to do this just PM us, we will try to help as much as possible for you to get it right the first time. Some small water bubbles will go away after it dries.
Do not try this dry because you will have to move it around to align where you want it.
Once you spray some water/soap/alcohol the decal will slide around then hold it in position and squeegee from the center out.Take your time especially if you are new at it.Keep your hand wet, that helps in the release from your fingers.
Hope this helps
Randy
bcblues 08-12-2002, 08:02 AM Randy,
I noticed that one of the blue installs has the inside corner of the eyelind "drooping" down below the line formed by the intersection of the hood and the grill side piece. Most other installs show the eyelid only extending down to this line (which I think looks MUCH cleaner).
Is there that much variance in the manufacturing, or are the blue slightly different, or have htey changed through time? Maybe there is just a trick to installing them to get them aligned properly??
Speed FX 08-12-2002, 08:33 AM Hey bcblues ,
They are all made the same way and have been since the beginning. It is a matter of positioning when it is applied. The best thing is to get it eyed up before you start to put it on (when it is still on the paper and NOT wet) so when you wet it and go to lay it down you have an idea of where to put it. Another thing you can do is start at that point and work your way out so you know that is where you want it.
Hope this helps you some and not confuse you more.
Randy
Ricter 08-12-2002, 07:58 PM Bah, I'm a tool. Couldn't get mine on right, and ended throwing the remains away after my failed attempt. I guess it's not so bad, seeing that it was only $10 that I wasted. BTW, it may have just been my car, but the white eyelids didn't match very well with the Aspen White Paint on my car. Could be just be my paint faded though... just and FYI...

Drew888 08-26-2002, 12:52 PM Randy / Teresa,
I sincerely hope that the one negative post , mine, hasn't slowed you eyelid sales.
The fact that I haven't received mine yet, after 19 days, must just be a fluke.
I like the product and am still hopeful.
Everyone should be buying these, they look great IMHO.

I sincerely hope that the one negative post , mine, hasn't slowed your eyelid sales.
The fact that I haven't received mine yet, after 19 days, must just be a fluke.
I like the product and am still hopeful.
Everyone should be buying these, they look great IMHO.
Drew (Andrew Jones),
Speed FX 08-26-2002, 02:19 PM Thanks Andrew. Unfortunatly yours has been the only one that has had problems getting to you.
I am going to send you out another set today because they can't find out anything yet. If you get 2 just send one back to me.
Thanks, Teresa
Drew888 08-27-2002, 02:54 AM Great, if I do get 2 I will definately send the other back your way.
Drew,
bcblues 08-27-2002, 11:54 AM Some notes on my install:
1) Be careful cleaning the lenses in preparation for applying the eyelids. But also make sure you get all the "bug gunk" off, too. I used alcohol to clean them afterwards, just to make sure.
2) I kept a bucket of water with a bit of dish soap in it on hand. That allowed my to keep the headlight wet, and also to keep my hands wet so the vinyl didn't stick to it.
3) I removed the backing paper and the adhesive-side paper before allying them to the headlights. I don't know how on earth you would apply them with the backing paper on (anybody actually DO this??).
4) With the headlights wet with soapy water, apply the vinyl. I tried to work from the inside ot the outside (on the upper lid), trying to keep the eyelid lined up with the junction with the grill. It didn't work. The eyelids are a bit too large to fit this way. I lived with the "droopy eye" fit, but if I had it to do again, I would probably trim them to fit the way that I would like (even with the junction of the hod and grill on the inside).
5) Don't FREAK when it seems impossible to get these on without wrinkles! Just patiently work from the middle out and keep working hte bubbles and wrinkles out as the soapy water dries. Eventually they will begin to lay down properly. I kept my fingers wet while working out the wrinkles.
6) If need be, trim carefully along the top edge of the headlight, using hte headlight edge as a guide. I had a bit of an overlap in a couple places along the top of the light after all was said and done. Nothing major, probably a sixteenth of an inch on the driver side and an eighth inch on the passenger side. I used an exacto knife with a new blade. I ran the knife blade all the way along the top of each lens, which helped push the top of the eyelid firmly into the seam, and to cut off the miniscule bits that overlapped.
7) Step back and enjoy your new eyelid look.
I'm still not sure that I like them (the look, not the product), but for 10 bucks and about a half hour, it is worth a try.

Maniac 09-09-2002, 10:18 PM I am really interested in these. The price is right and I like the concept. However, the shape of the upper eyelids could be much improved in my opinion. I do not really care for the lower ones, but again, that's just me.
The current design starts under the hood to grill seam and then curves upward, away from the natural curve of the light/blinker divider to reveal some of the blinker. That to me breaks-up the natural lines of the front of the car.
It would look better and more aggresive if the vinyl cutout followed the lines instead (see picture below). The eyelid should start from the hood to grill seam and then curve slightly down, parallel to the curve of the light/blinker divider. This way some of the blinker is still exposed, but the look is smoother, cleaner, and meaner!
Randy and Teresa! I will pay $5 extra if you can make one like that for me (in silver, of course). I really think it would look better and you will be able to offer a different variation. I think it will sell even better than the current design...
thanks!
Maniac
P.S. Excuse my lousy picture hacking, but I had no access to Photoshop, so I had to use MS paint. (Yuck!!!)
Maniac 09-09-2002, 10:25 PM Maniac again.
This is what I mean!
Here is a much better picture. These are the Jun eyelids. If you could copy the Jun style exactly, I will pay $15 for them in a heartbeat!
Maniac 09-09-2002, 10:29 PM Here's another picture:
Speed FX 09-10-2002, 12:17 AM Hey Maniac, Thanks for the input. We did make them like that. It is just a matter of how you line it up when you put them on. Here is a pic of one we sent out along with the original templete we worked with. Hope I answered your question.
Thanks, Teresa
Maniac 09-10-2002, 01:25 AM Hi, Teresa!
Thanks for your reply.
Attached are side by side pictures of Jun eyelids and your design. I removed the lower eyelid on your for clarity.
The top pair compares Jun shape to your current design. You can clearly see the difference. the bottom pair illustrates how your current design would have to be modified to look like Jun.
I do not mean to bag on you product, I still think it is pretty good and for a killer price. However, no matter how you install your current design, it will not look like Jun. I bet you cut the bottom of the eyelid straight when you made your current template. that makes the bottom edge curve up as it conforms to the lens curvature.
Hope you can alter the template shape to get the jun look!
Thanks!
Maniac.
Erudition 09-10-2002, 03:27 AM I don't think that the JUN look is what they are going for. If it was, then it would be kind of lame, and would feel like a cheap immitation. They did their own thing, which gives them a unique product, which I feel is good quality and design. Go buy some jun eyelids if that is the design you like.
SpeedFX - got them in today and installed them. Decided not to put the bottom ones on. They came with the WRX cut out on them, and thats not what I was expecting. I will post pictures tomorrow! I am very satisfied! :D
Maniac 09-10-2002, 03:52 AM Ok, Dragon!
To each his own! I am really happy you like them! Everyone is entitled to their opinions and tastes, and I respect yours :) . Thanks for your sugestion! I would "go buy some JUN eyelids" as you sugested, if they did not cost $150, unless of course you want to pitch in and help me out...
Now back to my question:
Randy and Teresa! Do you think you can make a pair for me that look like Jun's? I'd love to buy some from you if you can do it.
Thanks again!
Maniac
Erudition 09-10-2002, 04:10 AM ;)
Speed FX 09-10-2002, 07:43 AM If you want them like that, I will alter the design for you.
DragonReborn, Sorry about that, if you want to send them back I will send you out another set that don't have it.
BeavisNuke 09-10-2002, 11:41 AM I would buy the new design as well. I like it better.
What's another $10 ;)
BeavisNuke 09-10-2002, 11:41 AM double post
Maniac 09-10-2002, 12:03 PM If you can make them like that, I'm all over it!
1) Which email daaress do I PayPal you to?
2) What is the total?
Thanks for taking your time, being flexible, and working with me! Two thumbs up for you!!

superhawk44 09-11-2002, 12:26 AM Ok guys just want to say I got the eyelids a while back when they first came out and am very happy with them, thank you! Now on to the next topic, have you guys considered doing some type of tailight vinyl covers? I would be very interested in these as I'm sure many others would. I'm sure we could give you many ideas as well, food for thought,CHRIS......
I know your busy sorry to start a new fire burning...
Speed FX 09-11-2002, 07:11 PM tricked-out - yours went out yesterday.
Maniac - If you transfer money through paypal send it to v6scoobie@yahoo.com
if you use a credit card through paypal send it to
speedfx@speed-fx.com
Osiris - yours went out on the 9th.
superhawk44 - someone asked ma about that today. I don't have a pair here to work with as a templete. Unfortunately I haven't let my husband by one YET (lol). So if anyone is willing to lend me them I could get it done. If you could take a close up pic with some measurements I could start with that. Thanks for asking if you have ideas let me know and we can see what we can do.
Thanks all
Maniac 09-11-2002, 08:56 PM PayPalled ya!
Erudition 09-12-2002, 05:22 PM I am interested in some taillight speculations. Is this something that you can do SpeedFX?
If so, calling all photoshoppers!

Maniac 09-14-2002, 04:38 PM how bout a nice big round hole for starters
Maniac 09-14-2002, 04:40 PM add a small one...

Maniac 09-14-2002, 04:53 PM I hope that was not too much thought food for you! I dont want your brain to puke!
Defecktor 09-14-2002, 05:06 PM Try using a hairdryer when putting on the vinyl.
Rich King 09-16-2002, 07:19 PM Any idea on when the last batch shipped and if they're doing the new style yet?
bahboy20 09-17-2002, 10:43 AM i like maniacs pic of the top and bottom covered (2nd edited yellow wrx).
I dont know how easy to install a peice of vinyl shaped like that or if it would have to be 2 separate pieces (1 for top and one for bottom)-- then you have to deal with the seam issues.
It would seem that doing the top only (looks like the aqua rear covers, iirc) or just the bottom would be a small and manageable enough piece of vinyl to apply, but I am not sure about applying such a big piece.
Speed-FX, woudl it be possible for you to make the rear vinyls a little more thick than teh front eyelids, since the rear lights stay on all the time (unlike the blinkers in the front) and therefore the light shining thorough the rear covers wont look that nice.
dan
Speed FX 09-19-2002, 01:52 PM All orders have been shipped. The Jun style ones went out. When you guys get them on send some pics.
Thanks,
P.S. I am working on the tail lights:)
Maniac 09-23-2002, 08:27 PM Here is mine.
This is what we have been referring to as "Jun" style. They look much better IMHO than the original up-curving design. You can see how the curve follows the lines much smoother.
The install was challenging. Vinyl is not a very forgiving material and once it is stuck, it distorts if pulled on. Once it sticks on, it is impossible to correct any mistakes. The key word is PATIENCE! You must have at least an hour or two at your disposal. Flat pattern does not go on easily onto a curved headlight. You have to work these on and massage them patiently untill they start to conform to the curved shape. I had to do some trimming to cut off the little bit of excess material around the outside of the light seals.
Because I am not a very patient man, I got some wrinkles and bubbles on my passenger side. You cant see them unless you are really close. Oh, well. Maby I will buy another pair just to have it as a spare (look I'm riming).
Overall, this is a great value for $10. I recommend it to anyone who likes messing with their car:lol:
Thanks Randy and Teresa!
Here are the pix:
Maniac 09-23-2002, 08:31 PM more
Maniac 09-23-2002, 09:23 PM P.S. Teresa and Randy! The new pattern is very nice, however the bottom edge of the eyelid could be a little more down curved to get a more agressive look, even closer to Jun.
quikwrx 09-24-2002, 01:23 AM Are the Jun style ones still for sale? If so, I would like a pair of WR Blue ones.
Speed FX 09-24-2002, 07:40 AM Thanks Maniac. They look great. I know what you mean about them sticking. That is why we use the water and soap. The reason you had to trim is the vinyl stretches when you peel it back up. I have had to do that before also.
They are still available.
Thanks, Teresa
quikwrx 09-24-2002, 01:54 PM Just sent you $10 through Paypal.:)
